I've enjoyed all these team builder videos, being an American footy fan these stories lend history that wasn't available to me here, thank you keep it up
Really enjoyable watch. The WAFC wanted Freo to fail from day 1. The power brokers and sponsors wanted West Coast to continue to be the honey pot it was from 88-94. Glad some of this information is being spoken about freely as in the mid-late 90s you couldn't mention the facts because the WAFC would deny them.
Early History of Fremantle Dockers. 1995: 1st Win was against Fitzroy at Western Oval. 1996: Lost to Fitzroy in what was the Lions final ever win as Fitzroy on that same ground.
One of the biggest blunders they ever made was sacking Neesham when they did and replacing him with Drum, that set them back and they have never really recovered since
Damn they were very hard done by in the early days regarding their list build when compared to West Coast, who pretty much had free reign in picking WA players when they joined (if I'm correct). This allowed the Eagles to hit the ground running and quickly become a force to be reckoned with. If anything, I think they received too much! Geelong ( my team : ( ) was essentially trying to win flags against a WA state team. The Eagles got it all and the Dockers got screwed from day one. One club was set up to be a juggernaut and the other to just make up the numbers. People should not underestimate the effect of all this on the formation of a club's culture and its ongoing effects. I don't blame people if they still have a chip on their shoulder over the incredible inequities they were forced to deal with and how they were treated by the AFL. A weak and incompetent excuse for a professional sporting organisation, and sadly, nothing has changed.
Freo were created for only 2 reasons 1. To weaken the Eagles as they were clearing far ahead as the biggest club in the comp 2. To screw up the ARL who had just announced the Western Reds. Wouldn't be surprised if history repeats itself with putting the 20th club in Perth, with WA getting an NRL team in 2027 Go Freo 💜⚓️
Loewe & Harvey would never have joined Freo. Neesham brought half the Claremont squad with him. He had no idea how to develop talent, he let Peter Bell go for free at the end of 1995 after 2 games.
@@CursoryMercenary a much cruder, imbecilic version of my very own comment by way of response? Surely not! For someone so intelligent and well informed? A travesty! Stick to pro wrestling ya brain dead chump.
Fremantle should stop mucking around, bring things full circle and return to the anchor guernsey. Sooner they get rid of that awful 80s chevron tracksuit they currently wear, the better.

You bet!
Brilliant video
Cheers for the video mate
Lots of information 😊

Amazing that a WAFL side won 7 games that year. Neesham was a good tactician l, constant list overhauls and missed recruits killed them

How random is the story about sitting next to the Pentagon official on a plane haha
What happened to that anchor they used to wheel out? Bring it back, since I loved how it weighed the club down!
Freo were hamstrung by the AFL and the WAFC. Imagine if they got the same concessions West Coast got.
Worst concessions of any expansion team. ☠️

Yeh I’ll believe a random TH-cam comment over people in the situation.

@@CursoryMercenary as opposed to David Hatt and Gerard Neesham who were there and trying to get those deals done...

Highly agree!
Shows how Fremantle was punished for the success of the Eagles. The VFL hated seeing their cup leave their state.
Fremantle had the best jumper and logo when they were formed. Their logo now is pathetic.
