    It's not like the old days anymore, to start a company, all you need is to register the business and get a bank account for the business. You don't need an actual studio space, employees, equipment, a secretary, coffee machine, HR department, or anything else. Once you get production funding, then you can hire the people you need and get the equipment.

  • @ajtaylor8750
    @ajtaylor8750 2 ปีที่แล้ว +153

    That's the plan with my production company. We want to use our slate of shorts to build a foundation and get enough push and fan viewership to fund and make a feature. Antoine is right about trademarking your name, getting an LLC and a bank account when you're first starting off. Good stuff!

      I actually have the exact same goal. I also am using a foundation of shorts to transition to bigger plans. Film production is something I have always been into and I am constantly learning for it. I need to better myself on more of the business aspects of it, but in terms of the actual film I specialize in the directing and bringing scenes together part. Reach out to me if you would like to discuss some sort of collaboration in the future.

    I had to start my company MP Hafner Entertainment because I thought of an animation series, got help from two writers (one is a old classmate of mine and the other a professor of literature that I studied under) and was able to pitch to one of the biggest animation production companies in Asia to help produce the series. I did everything this gentleman stated and I too have a wife who is awesome support. I got a business partner now who is helping me developing more animation projects and we are going to be developing live action films. I did not think of being in this position 2 years ago. I'm learning the business day by day. Biggest lesson I've learned so far is get people who know/do things in the industry and let them do it. Don't by a tyrant. Another thing is protect your IPs. The film industry is full of sharks.

    I did two LLC Co's. The first I had a partner that messed well with my skill set. We did a few things, but we were undisciplined on certain business things, and eventually I ended my partnership due to other things. The second I started myself, but I was reaching for something out of desperation more than a goal. I felt that there was no one to mentor me, but in hindsight I get easily frustrated when I can't move forward for whatever reason. I helped others with their projects, and so far I've seen more positive & learning experience that way.

      I'm working on a graphics novel that will hopefully transition into visual media. Antoine's video on how so many people in Hollywood don't have Intellectual Property rights was eye opening and I plan to keep rather than sell the rights to my project. He said in another Film Courage video that coming from a music industry background he knew you needed to own your work whenever possible and how Sylvester Stallone had no ownership in the Rocky franchise. Then said while Hollywood was trying to figure out who Tyler Perry was he became a billionaire. I took all that info to heart.

      I've been doing a lot of research on starting a business (& I also have a masters in Entertainment Business), and one thing I've learned is that once you create your business, you can get more money thru your business than as an individual. So I would say take baby steps. Create your LLC, get the EIN#, bank account, apply for business credit and grants, write your business plan in the meantime and trust God for real. It will all come together. (Taking my own advice) 😩 God bless.

    I've been scared as shit to start an LLC. I'm a writer, but I have experience in logistics which gets me hired on indie productions as a producer because I understand resource and people acquisition and management. But I don't want my writing to take a back seat and suffer because I'm running a company. Perhaps I can use the production company as a means to push those stories forward? I have some research to do. Thanks Film Courage for another great video and one that has sparked some deeper learning/understanding.

But I'm still stuck on how to get started. I went to the local small business administration and they mostly want you to do the business plan, market analysis, all that technical stuff. All of that research stuff discouraged me. Its like they focused on mostly what I don't have instead of telling me who I needed to connect myself with. This video has been helpful. Covid half killed me. It killed my mom. I was able to bounce back, but I still have Long Covid like him over a year later.

    I'm confused. So he hires other production companies, but he can still claim the work under his production company?

      I think he just hires freelancers.

    Legal zone is a waste. You can do it yourself. Applying at your local state building and company trademarks app online. Also, legal zone hold all legal rights to your company brand

    Hey are there any people from New Zealand who wants to connect with me and potentially help build a film production company? If you are not from New Zealand I may be still interested in connecting/collaborating 😊🙏

    I can't use a big camera myself to make my movie because I had a accident and can't lift or hold anything heavy, so I would hire a camera crew. And I would go to California to find a casting director and film my movie in L.A. because here in Florida there no actors here none and we also don't dress by seasons like the people do in California.

    I live in Fort Lauderdale but I will go to California to find my actors and camera crew I would rent a studio and live in California while I'm making my film because here in Florida they're no actors my state is very boring and we don't dress by the season's it's a retirement state really. If I continue to try to make my film in Florida it would never happen because they're no famous people here in Fort Lauderdale only 1 rapper.
