He became eligible to join the union SAG-AFTRA👏🏿👏🏿
It's not like the old days anymore, to start a company, all you need is to register the business and get a bank account for the business. You don't need an actual studio space, employees, equipment, a secretary, coffee machine, HR department, or anything else. Once you get production funding, then you can hire the people you need and get the equipment.
That's the plan with my production company. We want to use our slate of shorts to build a foundation and get enough push and fan viewership to fund and make a feature. Antoine is right about trademarking your name, getting an LLC and a bank account when you're first starting off. Good stuff!
I actually have the exact same goal. I also am using a foundation of shorts to transition to bigger plans. Film production is something I have always been into and I am constantly learning for it. I need to better myself on more of the business aspects of it, but in terms of the actual film I specialize in the directing and bringing scenes together part. Reach out to me if you would like to discuss some sort of collaboration in the future.

I got a business partner now who is helping me developing more animation projects and we are going to be developing live action films. I did not think of being in this position 2 years ago. I'm working on a graphics novel that will hopefully transition into visual media. Antoine's video on how so many people in Hollywood don't have Intellectual Property rights was eye opening and I plan to keep rather than sell the rights to my project. He said in another Film Courage video that coming from a music industry background he knew you needed to own your work whenever possible and how Sylvester Stallone had no ownership in the Rocky franchise. Then said while Hollywood was trying to figure out who Tyler Perry was he became a billionaire. I took all that info to heart.
I’ve always had a dream to build a movie studio on the land that my family owns. There is more than enough room to build one, but without capital, land is useless. I can’t even afford to build a house for myself, let alone a movie studio, but one can dream.
start with this: "I can build it". Things will fall into place. Attitude can make all the difference. Don't create obstacles for yourself. I believe in you.
go find the money...you gotta be ambitious...you gotta be hungry for a studio...that hunger alone will drive you...I gotta raise 2.5-5 million to get started in what I'm trying to do...I will find that money..I know I will...God has no respect of person...God can make it happen if you believe and step out...
I've been doing a lot of research on starting a business (& I also have a masters in Entertainment Business), and one thing I've learned is that once you create your business, you can get more money thru your business than as an individual. So I would say take baby steps. Create your LLC, get the EIN#, bank account, apply for business credit and grants, write your business plan in the meantime and trust God for real. It will all come together. (Taking my own advice) 😩 God bless.
I've been scared as shit to start an LLC. I'm a writer, but I have experience in logistics which gets me hired on indie productions as a producer because I understand resource and people acquisition and management. But I don't want my writing to take a back seat and suffer because I'm running a company. Perhaps I can use the production company as a means to push those stories forward?
