Different between arts and buster supports is arts will always have synergy with one another. Meanwhile merlin and Oberon literally hate each other.
Hilarious part is Proto Merlin still works with Oberon
Main difference is you can use Male!lin on any comp, Fe!Merlin is exclusively Arts.

Merlin doesn't hate Oberon. It's Oberon that hates his guts due to different stance on stories. And given Proto Merlin's personal stance on stories, Oberon should hate her even more.
@@ZETA14.88also no. Both have they're specialties in their card types but are really good everywhere else, challenge quest survivability, even farming if your missing some np gauge or just want a mana burst. I don't think one really overshadows the other.

Lady Avalon and Tamamo together are super fun with Aoko. Lots of passive NP gain to bypass Super Aoko's low NP gain rate while making rotations faster due to Tamamo and Aoko lowering the team's cooldown, while also keeping the team safe with healing, draining enemy NP, providing all types of damage buffs to Aoko and even making her Arts chains hit quite a bit harder with crits.
Except that means your turn 1 is essentially a dead turn because you have to set up Aoko first lol.
Lady Avalon and Tamamo for Aoko is kinda ehh... just use Van Gogh and Castoria/Lady Avalon/Tamamo teams instead

Funny how most of the community always view Male Merlin as the *Buster* Support but in reality, he can be synergized with her female counterpart and Castoria herself....
The problem is they play differently. Merlin thrives in long fights, Merlin!but booba wants to end fights quickly since she drops off very fast when the 3 turns expire with no fallback. You can cope about the hp buff being "a heal" but it doesn't stick long-term and can't be boosted with Heal Gain buffs like his heal per turn does. Oh and she's just crap outside of Arts while he works anywhere, even Quick.

@@reishiki8682 Tbh while I dont dissagre, I do thing Merlin Hoe edition is the closest we have to a sustain quick support for AAQQB deck servants. They get to use her crit buff well and are more capable of ending fights faster while also having 2 arts cards to make arts chains with, and they do help Lady Avalon herself to crit and recharge her NP faster, mitigating somewhat the 2 turn penalty she has compared to Merlin, and unlike arts servants, quick servants tend to carry their defense with them, so they are less affected by her longer cooldowns
...........whats with Merlin and working better with quick instead of the card they buff? You would believe there is a secret Quick Artoria that they were meant to support instead of Unga Bunga Gorilla over here (and Arthur, but Prolin aint moving a finger for him)
I think regular Merlin’s best partner rn is unironically Constantine post buff. Obviously Merlin can’t benefit from the np buff on Constantine’s np but they both fit into the slow Buster playstyle. Merlin provides healing to offset chip damage, Illusion stacks with Constantine’s NP, Constantine can do pretty respectable crit damage in a pinch, and Constantine has a star bomb to help with early momentum before you can start stacking Garden of Avalon (especially when combined with star bomb CEs). It’s not a perfect team but the two have very good synergy alongside a Buster dps. The biggest problem with this team is that there’s just no contest between it and an arts team with a Castoria and Proto Merlin outside of more damage.
I think better uptime on offensive buffs, and more duration on Merlin buffs (meaning more Easy to spam NPs)
So i SEE this team with an Romulus-Quirinus or Crit Draco being better than Castoria Lady Avalon
@@elibiosanchez4174Np spam has absolutely no contest between these two teams due to arts crits, Castoria buffing np gain and the fact that you’re much more likely to click on arts cards in arts teams. Yes Merlin provides more raw charge but the playstyle differences between the two teams will mean that Castoria Proto Merlin will likely be spamming out NPs way more often.

Yeah, arts it's the Star for generating NP but not have the Best damage
And on Merlin teams (at least what i have played until My Merlin hit Bond 15) i can do Buster and some arts or Quick and... NP spam was no problem
And with Buster crit art art causing Overkill, the Gains are absurd (and with Buster crit it's more Easy to do overkill or overgauge)
@@elibiosanchez4174 I’ve also used quite a few slow Buster teams and I’ve found that unless it’s a double Merlin team you’d be very hard pressed to match the sheer spam of an arts team. In nodes with trash mobs or lower hp ceilings, sure an overkill arts crit will probably bring you from 0-100 but arts teams can just do the same thing way easier by just spaming chains and clicking blue. You’ll still be using your NPs quite consistently (I’ve had single Merlin teams where each unit could use their np about every other turn or every 3 turns) but arts teams can sometimes have every unit using their np back to back to back in the right circumstances.

My personal opinion about the Gareth problem i would say is how i truly believe they forgot the difference betwen what Gareth is and what she means. She is Gawain and Mordred Sister yet she never wanted nor desired to be like them and always pursued Lancelot as in her recent interlude she said she originally loved him so she always followed him as even you can see it in her extra attack when she scream Imitation Arondight Overload, no Galatine imitation nor Clarent, Arondight.
They forgot that she always wanted to be like him and accidentaly made her like a miniature Gawain instead of Lancelot, first time i saw the summer trailer i saw Gareth and said "Hey! Buster lancelot!:D" not a Gawain wannabe or a weaker ver (if i wanted that i have Fergus).
She was supposed to be like her Lancer self but more similar to Lancelot, a Hard. *BIG* Dmg Buster, ST crit dps Saber like Lancelot but while still being herself and having her characteristic defensive capabilities😮💨😮💨 such a wonderful idea for a new servant considering how broken Ibuki and Skadi summer are and yet.
We ended up with a mini Gawain that like, 6 months after the event Gawain got a Buff that makes him surpass Gareth only redeemable niche of Buster Crits😮💨😮💨😮💨
She's one of my fav servants and my fav round table knight so i wish they will notice their mistake of making what should have been a unique, Buster centered Lancelot as the worst parts of Gawain dmg, Lancelot lack of defense or survability and Gareth low tier dmg and give her something GOOD like a buff to her 1st or 3rd skill with Star weight and a Big crit buff of at least 50% to BE!
At least. JUST a bit closer to Lancelot crazy Crit dmg or even an increased dmg against burning enemies like Kiyohime to give her some good stuff (if they changed her NP from AOE to ST I doubt anyone would even complain or even care about that)

It was just what i believed was the reason Gareth flopped but Ibuki and Skadi were great as i wondered what made Nasu want to make the next summer event and wondered "maybe devs started making weird or stupidly broken servants (Tiamat) or, not exactly accurate so he made the event and was helping more to keep things cleaaarrr??? I'm not 100% sure but i had valid reasons to believe that the devs got a bit out of hands with the upcoming servants

Too bad miyu doesn't have aoe arts up. She'd have been a perfect mini Merlin as her kit is right there so close.
Honestly i wouldn't call her a better Merlin. Just a side grade and while yes arts is better that morgan/himeko castoria Merlin stall team is very cool. But you have replacements like reines when she gets the overcharge if you really want shields but that's only in favor to arts comps not buster.
Tbh i feel like miyus stacking 10-20% atk buff each turn pulls pretty good weight, and can hit 30-60% on turn 3 with a single np.
I always disagree when I see people saying that Avalon is better than Merlin. But I never fight with people to defend my point in this case. For my use cases, I always found Merlin to be more useful than Avalon. If people find her better in actual fights, not just on paper, then congrats on getting a servant who is better than Merlin, a servant once hailed as the best servant in the game.
Power creep has been rough
It's a marginal improvement at best imo, Arts is already completely brainless, she's another bucket for water to fall on and while strong, doesn't necessarily outclass Merlin, she's a different flavor of him.
But Arts=Broken to people which means Proto Merlin=Broken and while she is, people are being way too generous in saying she's better while disregarding the obscenity that is Merlin's 5 turn duration on his NP buffs compared to her 3 turn.
Not to mention, Merlin you just need to pull, PMerlin feels inferior if she's not NP2 at the very least.
She is a sidegrade for the most part. The Buster buff is the most niche part of Merlin's kit and it is less valuable on PMerlin. She has a shorter np buff duration with worse effects (while temp hp is better in a vacuum, it does not last that long, cannot be increased like healing can, and does not work for recovering lost HP which is a bigger concern the longer the fight). As far as I can see, her primary advantage is an easier time getting her first np off with most of the rest of her kit being inferior to or interchangeable with male Merlin.

Before watching the video to give my own opinion,
I think some people just prefer OG merlin over proto merlin just for the stall team and the np difference on lower np level and invincibility cd just for the sake of easier management, Himiko and Morgan are still popular choices because they themselves just have powerful kits that are versatile themselves even outside of the Solem defense teams so it exists for one
The other is, Merlin is actually used for Single core farming as you take out your own Castoria and pair her with Xu fu + friend castoria for free quests, in events with starting np charge you can use her np if you need to
It's also that simply put, Merlin is "safe to use", as in he offers not only party invul but also heal per turn via NP along with the critstars and NP charge per turn. So if your plan isn't just to gung-ho a fight and min-turn it his value diminishes, in just fights that you play out he does outdo her in lieu of staying power while she drips rapidly in value unless you can keep the NP's rolling in.
I really think it's just a case what team you are running. If you are doing CA/PM/Arts Attacker, go PM. If you are using Morg/Himi,CA,OgM go og Merlin.

I'm very confident to say that's a best stall team in the game
I have been on the crossroad of getting avalon or summer skadi 2 years back and fortunately get them all so here is some of my pick up along the way.
At that point in time i dont have oberon yet and have basically everythings else and avalon is arguably the best plug in for me. The thing with 90++ is they are damage check so even if they can loop most people dont have the output to do so, and for note that people can somewhat loop avalon even though lacking in pure charge offer oc (and the easy access to her np also translate to more oc) as a form of more damage most of the top tier art looper like lancerlot summer, SI and in the more noticeable case, kama( just inmagine a np 1 draco with a np1 draco with +3 oc, aoe idk but that damage might be the different of 90+ and 90++). They all have good or busted oc so having access to that oc mean alot of damage compare to the other traditional plugin like reines and waver offer less damage.
And technically speaking the lack of charge only come up in really hard note to loop like 11x or 12x which note you want go with 2 dps comp anyway( and it quite meaningless if you cant meet the damage cap in the first place) furthermore most event have charge ce, in the future we will have more little upgrades in the form of kuro and the new 4* free berserker to somewhat handle thing easier. She wont enable something crazy like oberon but like in the challenge scene she will refine an account ability to do thing with art, but that still a unit that only worse than oberon while being great challenge quest unit.
If i were to say it it would st in the line of a pokemon game, avalon isnt a win condition like skadi she is the one that put you in a more advantageous state to win, you dont need another win con if you already have a good win con(like sure every plugin is that but she is the only one that have 70%+ damage buff+ decent kit to help people loop, the closest in damage is tamano and barely anyone use her at a plug to loop).
So if its a new player pick skadi, but if a player already have st going for them imo i would choose avalon and get skadi later cus it not like skadi will get me through 90++ easy.
I choose to believe Merlin is better because I don't want to roll for Avalon, but I respect the analysis.
Proto Merlin was one of the few meta supports I had for the lostbelts, and she got me pretty far. She was stellar for a new account. She would've gotten me all the way if it wasn't for Fluffy.
Is it better to wait for her rerun banner next year? At least regaring CEs? I want to get her but LB7 servants have me tight on my bugdet

I am skipping Proto-Merlin for now. She will be back later. I think Douman is better for my playstyle, so my priorities are Summer Skadi, Douman, and Summer Ibuki. I also already have Reines NP3 and OG Merlin. I am good I think.
Pro: Pulling Summer Gareth while pulling for Proto Merlin is effectively 3 SQ refund. Only applies to the first copy pulled.

Lady Avalon is just so good that I honestly believe OG Merlin deserves a buff

Good thing I prefer playing Arts/Buster teams so my answer is to double down and have both of them on hand.

One of my biggest pet peeves with Proto is just how dumb NP5 on her is, It's the most whale thing they ever did in the game, no other support needs higher NP lvls at all, and here comes Proto just doing this bait that is gonna work (unfortunately)
Her banner actually earned the lowest among the three, so not much whaled hardcore. Even Skadi in a bikini earned more and she came out later.
@@reishiki8682 1) Sidegrade to existing unit, compared to Skadi as a straight upgrade for Quick accounts (not replacing but supplementing Caster Skadi)
2) Proto Merlin is a bigger jerk than Merlin with less excuse or regret for it
3) Triple SSR banner off the tail of Arcueid, wallets were likely strained

I got Proto Merlin in JP and she is my main arts support since i have no castoria there. I got castoria recently in NA so I am uncertain if I want Lady Avalon right now. But she can help my immortal team out since i have no merlin of my own yet

Yes. S.Skadi can help out more. Imo summer Merlin is more of a luxury support that can further help support arts team. While s.skadi enables quick/bust crit teams. Also Sumer skadi is hotter xD lol

Lady Avalon is definitely good, just wish she was a little less stall oriented. OG Merlin can at least help in Burst 1Ts as you said with the power Buster crits, I use Gong all the time for the same effect since I don't have Merlin (yet). Completely biased but Arts is just not as intersting to me of a card type compared to the other 2.

how about the immortal team setup? proto-merlin seems like a downgrade there since the lack of buster buffs means morgan or himiko aren't going to hit as hard. and swapping in an arts farmer doesn't really work since half the benefit of morgan/himiko is that their np give bonus np levels for the whole team, and while proto-merlin has a skill that does the same its not going to be firing off every 3 turns.
Part of the background clip is of an even safer version of the team with reines. Also if you think reines is too slow you might as well do arts dps LA castoria bc its even faster and for 99% of the stuff its safe enough

No for real tho, pretender has the same issue as alter ego with their class affinity, so being mostly support is actually a good thing, especially if they were aoe, their damage suffer alot. Hephaesteon is actually what a dps pretender need to look like, single target + additional class affinity, other feel meh

Oberon is more of a hybrid like Helena/Taigong/Tez.
It is just that the class sucks and he has better supportive skills than full sups like Reines and pretty much anything for raids/ST nodes.
So he ends up being really usable as a full sup.
Im getting her for my own solemn defense team. Im sick and tired of Story mode forcing me to use in game servants.
I hope they buff OG Merlin so that he can be at the top of meta supports again
Just comparing the NP
NP1 original Merlin NP per turn overall is better with a total of 25 NP per person after 5 turns compared to a NP1 Proto Merlin that does 15 NP per person in 3 turns. Proto Merlin gets more milage with more copies though compared to the original (that is hard capped at 5 per turn while Proto can be potentially capped at 10 per turn which is a higher ceiling of 25 vs 30 NP overall) and you don’t even need to NP5 Proto to beat orignal in this regard. NP2 Proto significantly closes the gap and NP3 is already enough to beat him while NP5 just styles on him, but isn’t as necessary obviously because at the end of day Proto Merlin teams are not gonna struggle on NP regardless if it was 5 or 10 NP regen.
Also Max HP is straight up better than HP regen especially if the “heal” total amount is not significantly different anyway.
Max HP is flexible because you still get value even if your health is full as added layer of health pool + it’s faster immediate health recovery (which can mean the difference of dying or not in a turn in some scenarios.) since Max HP total value gets dumped immediately that turn like a normal heal still as opposed to being spread slowly like regen does.
Star gen though in NP Proto Merlin easy gets more value when her own kit boosts party OC so Star gen’s are often effectively doubled per turn from NP (5 star per turn vs 10 stars.)
The problem about max HP is, they didnt have any other buff to increase the amount of it meanwhile the amount of HP regen can be increased with a certain buff (i dont know what it called, but its a buff the can increase the number of the HP you get). Another thing is, HP regen will regenerate HP every turn while max HP only increase the amount of the HP, meaning that to be able to make max HP regain the same amount with HP regen you need to somehow use LA's NP back to back which is not efficient since you will basically lose your chances to use another cards.
Also as an F2P myself, its kinda unecessary to get another copy of a support based unit just for a slightly better number. Some peoples woukd probably still go for another copy just for the sake of waifu, but with how the summer banner have 3 different SSRs in it, not to mention they are equally really good on their own, i think most peoples will stick to 1 copy only.

I played tw server and we just had our summer event, and i got anni servant( sorry i forgot her name )+ everyone in summer banners but proto merlin with all those free quartz + some grinding for interlude and max ascension quartz.

I just feel like "a support that's good exclusively in one aspect while being shit elsewhere" is not a selling point. Yeah, base!Skadi is pretty meh nowadays but you can fill her in on any comp as a stopgap measure for example, not!Merlin being Arts-only makes her too shoehorned that it makes teambuilding with her very binary but also inflexible.
How does anyone want her over Merlin? That heal is so niche along with his other skills that he’s just about irreplaceable. To the point I think I’m going to go for more copies on him

Back to the battle of new york i used the Artoria, Castoria and Tamamo Team against Leonidas inf def buff as i didn't had Merlín yet Artoria np gain and tamamo cooldown reduction was a core part to help me with the quest and even with that i kept strugglin on the quest as sometimes Castoria didn't had her NP in tine or Artoria didn't had enough charge so that was the only time i asked it could be nice if i had a Arts Merlín to save me with the party invul and then she appeared.
To be honest i don't even need her as now that i fully upgraded Castoria and obtained Kriemhild, Emiya and Nero i can just go double castoria as the servsnt i truly want is Summer Gareth but i'm also sure i can give a good use to the new Merlín as my fav part is the free gamestarting 20% charge
"Better" Merlin? In some way, sure. In others, she's worse. Those cooldown, ouch! And cooldowns matter a LOT in the fights where Merlin shines - hard content many turn battles.
Still, I have no Merlin on my main account, so I am conflicted on whether I want Lady Avalon or Summer Skadi more. Is Triple Skadi really *that* much better for Quick over 2x Skadi + ? Especially if one of those two Skadis is a Suport Ruler?
when you pair her with castoria none of those things matter, I explained in the video
She is in most cases way better, for 3T she has arts up so she can give more charge than just 20% by adding refund.
For ST nodes since she won't miss skills when paired with Oberon.
In CQ they are similar, having overcharge aoe and NP drain more than makes up for the longer CD

@@elibiosanchez4174Merlin having a much more limited roster of partners is absolutely something that should be considered. People rate Arts units so highly because they work well with the best unit in the game and even if you lack a Castoria you can always borrow one from the support list.

Also, I think she just didn’t age as well as these two, in light of Musashi’s buff and, to a lesser extent, Summer Meluko.
She’s still great, but if you already have a big Summersashi or like Albion better, then she’s less important to the average player.
She is still better than melusine and musashi in most cases but yes competition is fierce in this archetype
@@PlushieMistress I’m just thinking purely in terms of investment. I don’t think those two are going to sway anyone away from Ibuki, other than me I guess, but her positives are perceived as simpler to grasp, although she does have quite a bit of utility outside of farming.
I just don’t like the idea of a character who’s perfect in their archetype, and I don’t think her lack of defensive utility amounts to much when she’s in the card type with the most defensive supports in the game. It’s like if you gave Achilles giant metal boots.

I'd argue higher np level will start to outshine merlin but in most other cases merlin at np1 gets the job done in longer fights. And do you really want to use the Sq for extra copies of proto merlin?
Don't underestimate how zealous players get "as long as they get to finish fights quickly". Because to them "playing out the fight" is nonexistent and act like it's not an option.
Merlin gets more value on the NP but you also have to consider the arts buff. Having 100% arts up on your dps NP instead of 50% on either buster or arts with base merlin no matter if you are using buster or arts dps units.

They need to remove his chance of missing skills when paired with Oberon, It kills the character for Ordeal Call and Raids, 2 roles he would be one of the best at.

On longer fights Merlin Will be used, the oposite to oberon so... There aren't many situations where You need both on field. And if You do, use Merlin skills then change

There is a situation you could use both in the field 3 times a day.
Oberon is quite helpful for long CQ fights btw, AoE Sleep on NP, 5/6T cd skills, aoe and target charge, removes Offensive buffs from enemies.
only real problem he has is only having 1 arts card, otherwise he would be really good for that

Calling it sidegrade is disingenuous when the passives alone shows one got way more love than the other since Proto benefit the most from later game power creep of FGO compared to an old servant like old Merlin.
Hell one can’t even be used well with Oberon.

I think the new buster buffer needs 1 skill star bomb+ eveade 2nd skill 2 time guts+ 30% charge and double hits on buster cards+ 3 turn 30%-50% buster burst, with support buster np that give invul pierce+5k heal to have synergy with buster merlin
Lady Avalon is good, but having only her in my account will hurt more since my lack of Castoria
I will say it still helps but yeah castoria is a huge factor that makes her shine

@lookingforlove839 probably buff 3rd skill to make it go from to 20-30% np charge with a crit buff for 3 turns that increases by 20% for 3 hits 3 turns and by 30% more in sunlight which could give her a bit better of a niche but farming wise nothing is changed besides being able to loop barely
While I like Proto Merlin I'll skip her, personally I prefer Pope Johanna some of my favorites servants are crit arts and she helps them

Still ultimately a sidegrade. The OC effect on S2 is a bit overrated because you're just gonna NP chain repeatedly anyways on Arts. The extra cooldown also affects timings so that's a thing.
What hurts her value is being tied to Summer Gareth, the clear-cut dud on this summer batch. And that Arts has so many support variations that Merlin!but Arts isn't much of a selling point outside of character favoritism.
I mean the fact that she buffs arts is another thing, in a vacuum she is def closer to a side grade but not with castoria in the picture imo
True enough, but even then i don't want to be too overdependant on one thing, since it's more fun to mix things up. If I'm bored or in a hurry I'll minturn fights but if i have free time I'll just play them out.
Honestly, to shake up this current Arts meta spam they'll eventually release some gimmick that outright counters Arts dependancy, because the comp is "too safe to the point of boredom" and doesn't have any drawbacks when it should have caveats to limit it being oppressive.

Also you're high on something not good. 2022 was when Oberon came out, followed by Hephaestion, Lady Avalon & Nine-Dragon Eliza the year after and Cait Cu Cernpriestess after those three. They won't just magically churn them out. Hell, Moon Cancers remained at a static five after Arc and that's 3 years from now.

Nah. Old Merlin in both his skills, passives, and half of his NP feels overall worse (not even counting Proto is a blatent upgrade if you compare stacked copies of each.).
Old Merlin is an old servant that didn’t get a single upgrade so it’s definitely showing powercrept age compared to New Merlin.
For reference turn 1 with max NP append (20), her own passive (another starting 20 which is something else old Merlin doesn’t have.) and her 3rd skill on a basic 3 wave is another 60 (not even getting into more meme crap like 6 enemy waves.) is already enough to turn 1 NP with just her own kit alone. She is Waaaaaay more self sufficient then old Merlin.
Calling them “the same” is disingenuous. You can’t even run Oberon with old Merlin unlike New Merlin if you want.

Idk. Proto Merlin is just…yeah she’s seemingly better than Merlin but how much of that is the fact that Arts seems to get so many more supports and servants? Hell the fact that Casters almost always have three arts cards makes her better. If things were balanced evenly I have no doubt that she’d been as good, maybe a sidegrade, but Castoria existing leads to her being overvalued. Arts honestly gets too much that’s too good, and it’s so boring as a result. It’s way more fun to play Buster with Merlin and time an Invuln, start hitting his NP all the time and firing off multiple Buster NP’s and feeling your thought out build up pay off. Sure in high end content Proto Merlin can outdo him in some situations, but…it’s easy. It’s so easy in fact that I have no doing that calling Arts as a whole ‘unhealthy in design’ wouldn’t be wrong. Its identity is just sitting around and not thinking usually.

As an Merlin user with merlin at bond 15, Merlin its still better than Lady Avalon on longer battles
On short battles, sure, Lady Avalon does a little more than merlin, but well, not too much diference to me
Edit: Another thing... Merlin its more general but Proto Merlin skill set it's worse if You don't use Arts
