Awesome job! I was worried it was going to come off the spear and fall back down. Definitely an amazing catch!
Thank you! We were worried too! That’s why we had to make sure not to celebrate until it was all the way out the door!! Thanks for watching!
Read about this years ago in a magazine... Fur-Fish-Game I think. Always thought it was cool. Nice job.
What a nice guy
Unable to get out tomorrow but hoping I see one on Sunday. Haven't seen one yet and have been tagging along since I was 7 now 21 hoping I've put in enough time to be rewarded lol. Hopefully this is the year good luck to all of you going
Thank you and good luck to you too!! Maybe this year will be the year!
Heck of a fish guy’s ! Well done . I’ve never had sturgeon meat , how does taste and does it compare to anything else ? Thanks for taking us along
There are lots of ways to prepare it and everyone has their preferences. One of the most common ways is to get it smoked, which we do. Lots of people say it’s almost like a smoked ham. Maybe one day you’ll get a taste! Thanks for watching!
Car wash pressure washer!?!? Chemicals run through that wand
Let me tell ya those chemicals were no match for the slime coming off of that bad boy!😂
damn cuh. u caught him lackin
That was one hell of a throw brother, great pull onto the ice, and a nice fucking fish
Thanks a lot!! We already speared a couple this year so stay tuned for the videos!👀
I WROTE AN ESSAY ABOUT THIS FOR MY ENGLISH CLASS
I’m confused, why not use a rod? Sturgeon are one of the easiest fish to catch.
We are actually lucky enough to have one of the only sturgeon spearing seasons in the country here on Lake Winnebago in Wisconsin. It’s definitely not easy! But, it’s a tradition that goes way back and there are a lot of local people who keep it alive!
Lucky ya you got him lol might wanna new gafe man but otherwise awesome job
Now do you eat these ?
Absolutely! One of the most common ways (and some would argue the best way) is to get them smoked. That is what we did with this one!
I worked for a state agency in a fish hatchery that reared sturgeon. A very difficult fish to raise when we started but we got much better at it over a number of years. They are a grand fish. They are slow moving and really not a challenge to spear. That fish is probably 20 -30 years old and could have lived to 100 or so. Where is the glory in killing that fish? I sure hope you at least ate it.
First learned about this maybe 6 years ago. I’m from NH and love nothing more than hard water fishing. Definitely a bucket list trip..
Hope you make it out here one day!!
