I have captured quite a few class E asteroids (I think the largest ones) and have taken them into orbit around kerbin. Each asteroid has rockets that I can command, basically they are remote controlled asteroids. They are all there ready to be shot down at the enemy head if there's one...🤣
Accounting for the extent of the debris field on Kerbin when the capture vessel fails to launch, maybe letting the asteroid hit would result in less possible damage.
Usually when I find an asteroid from the tracking station, I just see it's orbit, if it has an encounter with Kerbin I check it's periapsis, if it's above Kerbin's atmosphere I just let it orbit and do nothing, if it's below Kerbin's atmosphere I just let it orbit and do nothing also, cus I'm rly trash at rendezvous
The wobble is the very thing that taught me to make my rockets as sleek as possible, if it's flat and its aiming up, nose cone/anything to round it off.
I stopped playing KSP last year due to a corrupted save. I lost 1 year of progress plus all the aircrafts I spend hours ( litteral days for some) to build. I had build a P-38, Gotha G. Bomber, Handley-Page hp42 and the XF-85 Goblin to name a few. Honestly Your videos makes me want to try it again!
I had the concept done last year, but missed Asteroid Day where I wanted to release it. Did the launcher just this week. And missed Asteroid Day again, but I released it anyway because it had to be done finally :)
Now with ksp 1 you can use mods (procedural parts for big ones and hangar extended) and then use cheat (debug toolbar) for send it direct into orbit without karen effects, sorry, kraken effects🤣 I have build a 20km diameter ring with about only 70 parts(the main body).😅 For example, but you can build strong big ship with low parts and good fps if you use well all the mods that you need. But these large ships don't have much detail because otherwise the parts count increases to astronomical numbers. I hope that ksp 2 will allow you to merge all the parts together and make them behave as a single entity(maybe flexible too), except when too much force break it or when ships collied and then for the areas they touch, the computer then counts them as separate parts. That is, they are a single part until they take damage to an area, and only in that area do the parts come off.
Maybe if there'are too much big collisions, like 2 parallel planes 2kmX2km with 4000 parts each and you collied them the pc see that 8000 parts are too much for your computer and count them like for example 400 bigger parts/entity and the game don't crash.
The obvious defense mechanism against giant asteroid is giant railguns (which may or may not be also used for artillery/killing impractically sized aircraft)
seeing all the fails to launch the asteroid catcher into space kinda makes me feel better about my rocket when i see it destroy its self in the air lol
6:50 would it be cheating if a side_decoupler was added with a tiny cube, that you shift_click drag all the way down to the fuel tanks, then add struts? 7:20 would look like 6:50, but doesn't have the wobble, just like 7:20 ... ... ...
Because I sped up the footage about 8x. If you wanna try it out for yourself, the vehicle is on KerbalX: kerbalx.com/The_ShadowZone/Roidball-Asteroid-Catcher
If they were redirecting it to lunar orbit they would go to the moon anyway? Merge the missions because both missions include going to the moon so the one they have chosen would have been redundant if they had picked the other.
So I come here because I want to be lazy and play computer games for a bit. End up learning about future space programs, astronomy, physics etc... I miss Kong.....
This craft almost puts my 0.23.5 solar cruiser to shame... umm on second thought it DOES put it to shame. I concede victory only because you put a sphere over an asteroid, good sir ! Now, do you think you could have launched something like that in 0.23.5 ? By the way it's no wonder you had no time to run the mission. Welcome to my world: Lacks of free time means lots of mission scrubbing :(
Why don't you use the joint reinforcement mod? I mean it's entertaining to watch rockets wobble and blow up, but it would save you from so much frustration.
Why do something the logical way when you can do it the Kerbal way? And as a result incur more explosions than the combined nuclear arsenal of Kerbin, and delay the video :)
More docking ports = more kraken bait. The game is just janky bits of barely working code held together with duct tape and wishful thinking, that's why KSP2 is a total rewrite.
How to catch asteroids
-NASA and ESA: Lasers or rockets, idk.
-Kerbals:
✋☄️✋
👏
LMAO
30 seconds of demonstrating a craft followed by 5+ minutes of showing the attempts to get it into orbit is the correct Kerbal proportions.

The Kraken must have loved this thing
The two have an intimite relationship now.
