I'm Scottish and I love other people's attitude towards Scotland and it's people. It's very amusing. What isn't, however, is non-scottish people trying to do a Scottish accent. It's never good.
Och aye, I dinna think yer obsessed with Scotland, lassie! Just passionate! LOVED THIS VIDEO! So happy we have each other to fangirl over Outlander together. You were making me laugh so much with your pocket Jamie. You must Instagram yourself sticking him all over your school! Sidenote: So weird how you uploaded this the day Scotland votes for their independence!
I am Scottish and love the attitude most Americans seem to have towards our country😂 so enthusiastic haha! Here's some more Scottish book recommendations that are actually written by Scottish authors and are fantastic, "The Trainspotting" series by Irvine Welsh (very real depiction of the more modern/urban areas of Scotland), "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" by Muriel Spark, "The Trick Is To Keep Breathing" by Janice Galloway, "The Quarry Wood" by Nan Shepherd and "The Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner" by James Hogg. That is just a few but I could go on forever😂! (Also Carol Ann Duffy is an INCREDIBLE Scottish poet, defo check her out🙏🏻)
My dad got a really old book from my grandma (I actually don't know if he got it from my grandma) but it's about 100 years old, it's a family book, and it's basically tales of Scotland. It was either my grandmother's mother or grandfather's father's book, cause they were both Scottish
I'm so happy you're obsessed with Scotland, I'm from scotland and have lived here my whole life and tbh I don't live in the nicest neighbourhood but to here you actually like our country is such a lovely thing:)
Hi ! I LOVE Outlander too ! I just discover the first book and I die every time I watch an episode of the tvshow, which is awesome. I admit that the scottish accent, as sexy as i can be, is a little bit hard to understand for the little frenchy girl I am but anyway, I love it ! Thanks for that video ! xxx
I'm scottish and your love for scotland is truely amazing and it makes me feel better about being scottish because usually we are over looked and only thought of as brittish or just another part of the uk but we're not and i thank you for noticing that
Great video but I wouldn't call it a 'Scottish book recommendations' video since you've recommended zero Scottish books. Outlander, Doon, Forevermore, and the Falconer are all American books written by American authors that just have a Scotland setting.
I love Scotland. I went to Scotland while living in the UK and it was brilliant. We didn't go to any cities, but saw a lot of small towns, fields and forests. Also, loads of castles, which I loved. I walked around pretending I was a medieval princess most of the time. Yep.
The Wedding, The Bride, and Ransom all by Julie Garwood. All in Scottish accents. I' also reading the highland guard series by Monica McCarty. So good!!!
You should definitely go to Scotland at some point in the future in August. We have this thing in Edinburgh called the Edinburgh Military Tattoo which is like a celebration of military music from around the world but the masses pipes and drums at that are amazing. Well worth going on the late performance on the last night.
Honestly my favourite video you've made so far. And that's saying something, considering I love all your video so much and have watched them all 7483 times.
I recommend “On Dublin street” because that’s the series that got me into Scotland like you and holy fuck I’m so happy I found a Scotland obsessed girl like you
I just started Outlander this week and I can't put it down. I have 7 of the 8 books and I think I'll be reading them one after another even though they are SO long, I love the world building and the characters and the story, everything is perfect!
imagine my surprise when i walk into my local Christian bookstore, and there in the Young Adult section (its quite small) was a hardcover edition of Doon... plus it's SIGNED BY BOTH AUTHORS! and only for $17.99! this might seem expensive to people who live in america, but seriously getting hardcover books are so costy in Australia... and this is my first time ever encountering a pre-signed book. i bought it, no questions asked. I REGRET NOTHING.
I love all things Scotland! A great book set in Scotland is called Lost in Scotland by Hilaria Alexander (the other book in the duo is called A Scottish Wedding). They’re great easy reads, super adorable, and Hilaria Alexander is super nice.
I should be able to recommend books set here (because I am Scottish) but this video made me realise I've not really read any. I tend to avoid them because I hate when authors try to write our accents phonetically or I get irritated if they write us as stereotypes or get things really wrong. Outlander is in my TBR pile though (I blame the show) and the last one you mentioned sounds interesting. =P
I love Renaissance costumes and such (I always dress up for the Renaissance fair they are so gorgeous and such) Also I just ordered Outlander and I'm so happy! My grandma lent me her copy and I got hooked (along with starting to watch the show) so I had to buy my own. I also have read both the Doon books and bought Forevermore a few years back and it is absolutely amazing. Currently hooked on Scottish books (especially their accents, LOVE them) Anyway, I'm gonna try reading the last book you mentioned and see if I like it. Hopefully I will though the speech part is disappointing. :P
I wore a real authentic kilt for the 4 years I was in High School. Our school was Highland High School. We were called the Highland Scots. I marched in the band and we were the Marching Highlanders! I love Scotland (would love to visit) and I really enjoyed The Falconer:).
Three things: 1. LOVE your phone case. 2. Thank you for filming this, I've been looking for Scottish books to read because I'm from Scotland and I feel like all the books I read are set in England and the U.S. 3. Try reading ' A stranger came ashore' by Mollie Hunter, it's set in Scotland and its got Celtic mythology and some mystery. It's middle grade but absolutely love it.
I live in Scotland & I love how much you love my country! :) Anddd outlander was filmed 5 mins away from me :) (and they thought aliens were invading but it was really the lights from the set! ;p) but can you believe we're not getting outlander till next year on the TV here! And even then they're questioning showing cause it 'promotes independence'!!
Wanna check out more books that happens in Scotland? Then you really should consider the books from Hannah Howell or Lynsay Sands. The books from Hannah Howell follows the Murray-Clan and each book follows a different family member, it's an ongoing serie. Lynsay Sands has writing two trilogy's that happens in Scotland, her books are really funny but don't read them in public because other people might think you're crazy, she also has writing a vimpire serie (the oldest vampires come from Atlantis). Both authors are on GoodReads.
I just ordered the first three books in the Outlander series because all eight of the books are on sale for $6.04 on Amazon! I understand about having an obsessed with countries because right now I'm obsessed with Germany and Russia.
I haven't read them in ages, but I highly recommend Lynn Kurland's romance novels set in medieval Scotland. Some of them even involve time travel or the occasional ghost. Romance novels aren't usually my thing, but I really loved these!
Sasha, I was in a book store today and saw a book called '44 Scotland Street' by Alexander McCall Smith, which is set in Edinburgh. I haven't read it but the plot sounds interesting - you should check it out! :)
Hey Sasha, I actually read the books you recommended. I did start Outlander but put it down and I won't read it until I finish seeing the TV series. I read Forevermore, Doon and Destined for Doon, and The Falconer. Forevermore was lovely, both Doon books were brilliant and I cannot wait until Shades of Doon comes out. The Falconer was good but there were times I wanted to strangle Kieran but I will look for The Vanishing Throne when it comes out. If you find any more books that take place in Scotland, post another video when you can.
We sang the theme song "Sky boat song" for chorus in middle school and when I heard it on Outlander I screamed and started singing along while my sister questioned my sanity... opps;)
I'm not entirely sure if you've done this intentionally or not but we're actually voting on whether or not Scotland stays a part of the UK today! And as a Scottish person I can't believe you like our accents, I think they're pretty gross.....
I recommend Spy for the Queen of Scots by James Herbet. Its about one of Mary Stuarts lady's maids who travels with Mary throughout her life and overhears plots against her and stuff. There's court intrigue and plots and romance involving a very fine young Scottish lord.
I know this video isn't that new but my Scottish book recommendations are A Stranger Came Ashore by Mollie Hunter, The Seventh Tide by Joan Lennon and Darkisle by D.A. Nelson. I live in Scotland and liked how the in latter two they visited places I've been to
Just so you know, aye is pronounced like eye (it means yes but you probably picked up on that anyway), and also a good book I think you would enjoy is the Penguin Book of Scottish Short Stories. If you're interested there's also English, Welsh, Irish and British short story books as well but yeah, I think you'd like it and get a nice taste of the real Scotland with those :)
We don't sound like that😂 also, we do wear kilts everyday. At most private schools, we were kilts for uniform, I've been to two private schools that have had kilts and they're actually really pretty
Haha you was singing the Skye Boat Song. I've been on holiday to Skye. It was a little cottage lol. Which part of Scotland are you going too? I used to live there and it's a lovely place. The people are awesome and friendly. I'm English so it wasn't too far away from me but I'm sure you'll love it there :) Also "aye" is pronounced as "I". It's usually the Scottish equivalent of saying yes. Did you know that today is the day Scotland are voting for their independence? If you didn't then what a coincidence that you uploaded this today haha
You should read Seeker by Arwen Elys Dayton, because they're in Scotland during like two thirds of the book? I'm not sure, but it's a pretty new book and I read it and it was fantastic!
I know this is an old video, but have you read any Julie Garwood books? Her books are what brought me to be obsessed with Scotland, as well as find Outlander! I would recommend The Bride! It's my favorite by her!
Those all sound fantastic! I might just have to go read some Scotland books now and possibly go buy a kilt...required reading outfit for the full Scottish experience naturally :)
I love how enthusiastic you are about Scotland and Scottish books. I'm from the Highlands and live in Edinburgh so if you need any recommendations of cool places to go I'd be happy to help :) Interestingly the only book I'd heard of was Outlander so might try some of the other ones. Even though I live here I love a Scottish book!
This adult book called where rainbows end which is located on Dublin.... But it's still REALY good! You should definitely read it. It's hilarious, heartbreaking and it's just an emotional roller coaster. This book helps you appreciate life, because we take things for granted. And when they're gone that's when we realize how important that person was to us. It's a really beautiful book, READ IT!
A really good book I read a few years ago that's (kinda) set in Scotland, and the guy speaks with a very heavy Scottish accent, is Between by Cyndi Tefft !!! You should check it out!
Hey! Love your book recommendations I've either read them already or taken yours into account! Just saw this video and I've not read any of these books which is probably bad since it's set in my country!
Your love for the Scottish. HAHAHAHA. I hope you have an amazing time when ever you go travel to Scotland and what a great selection of books. Love your videos as always. ♥
I might get all these books soon, all I have to do I save up some money. Sasha you always make me want to read all the books you mention haha! Great video :)
Ooohhh same here I love all things Scottish. ^_^ this is really fun Sasha. Scottish accents are awesome. For recent ones, Samantha Young writes YA & NA. Check here out! :) I personally love On Dublin Street. It's NA. Lot's of sexy times but the angst, love & drama are great.
All the men wear kilts at weddings and funerals in my family, everyone wearing their own family name plaid. And bagpipes. There are always bagpipes. It's always so beautiful. Soo lucky to be going to Scotland. D=
Oh I've wanted to go to Ireland and Scotland since I was like 10. I plan to make a long trip to both in the next few years. I will have to check out the Doon series for sure, I'm currently reading the Lux series I have heard a bunch of good things about and am really loving it, flew through book 1 and halfway through book 2. Anyways on the whole Celtic theme, they are its Ireland, not Scotland, but still Gaelic and jazz at times ;) The Holders series by Julianna Scott. The Holders and The Seers are out thus far but I enjoyed them.
Have you read Spy for the Queen of Scots by Theresa Breslin? I've found it in the 6-12 year old section in the bookstore in London... :D But I still enjoyed it very much!
You should do live shows for the Outlander novels. I also just finished the first novel this month. I got the second one just taking it slow as the series is not over yet.
completely different tone to these books but Trainspotting is a scottish classic- would definitely recommend you either read it or watch the films! love from glasgow
Hey Sasha, have you watched the Monarch of the Glen series? It's so good and actually based off a book series. Haven't read the books, but they are definitely on my to-buy list :)
I live in Australia and go to an all girls school where the uniform during winter is kilts and trust me they're terrible to wear after a few days. They're so uncomfortable! Plus they're made for boys so I never got why girls have to wear them.
(I also love that song sky boat) I hope there will be more books based in Scotland you can tell me about. Are you going to make lists of other books based in countries other than america (London, Ireland, France, China...) or can someone point me to a chanel that has lists like that? please
I'm Scottish and I love other people's attitude towards Scotland and it's people. It's very amusing. What isn't, however, is non-scottish people trying to do a Scottish accent. It's never good.
Hahaha you are so true though! Only Scottish people can do the accent well, everybody else (including me) fails epically
Ikr😂
I'm Scottish and I really love people's attitude to Scotland and our culture.

Omg Sasha I can't wait for the wedding episode this saturday!
Ahhhh I know!!!
Frasher...?
You mean Fraser, pronounced like this "fray zer"
DOON YAY!! :D I finally read it after having my review copy for so long!! Great recommendations, Sasha!
I'm so happy you're obsessed with Scotland, I'm from scotland and have lived here my whole life and tbh I don't live in the nicest neighbourhood but to here you actually like our country is such a lovely thing:)

I'm Scottish and it's so funny to watch you xD
hehe this girl is so cute and likable and it's so great that she's spreading the book lurrrve~ she deserves more subscribers!
I'm scottish and your love for scotland is truely amazing and it makes me feel better about being scottish because usually we are over looked and only thought of as brittish or just another part of the uk but we're not and i thank you for noticing that

I'm obsessed with Ireland :P
same
Me too!
The falconer cover is so pretty! Thanks for the recs sasha i just finished heir of fire and i have a major book hangover!
When you come to Scotland go to the Isle ofSkye and visit the Fairy Pools. It is my favourite place on Skye :)
I love Scotland. I went to Scotland while living in the UK and it was brilliant. We didn't go to any cities, but saw a lot of small towns, fields and forests. Also, loads of castles, which I loved. I walked around pretending I was a medieval princess most of the time. Yep.
Aye sounds like eye not ehy, means yes.
Thanks!
@@abookutopia None of my cousins ever say "ehy." That's Canadian. "Aye" is "I." (And yeah, does mean yes, of course.)
I'm part Scottish so these books make me so happy
Same
Lucky😒😒
Dani Chavez
Same!
As a Scottish person it's nice to see you take such an interest in our country. New viewer, by the way!
The Wedding, The Bride, and Ransom all by Julie Garwood. All in Scottish accents. I' also reading the highland guard series by Monica McCarty. So good!!!
I'm totally with you Sasha! I LOVE Renaissance and medieval age dresses! Plus the kind of dresses on the covers of The Luxe series are soo beautiful!
I'm Scottish (and proud!) Brigadoon is pronounced Brig-a-doon, not Bridge-a-doon. Plus aye is pronounced eye.
You should definitely go to Scotland at some point in the future in August. We have this thing in Edinburgh called the Edinburgh Military Tattoo which is like a celebration of military music from around the world but the masses pipes and drums at that are amazing. Major fangirling moment for Forevermore! I LOVE that book! Thank you for mentioning it, and lovely video!

We pronounce aye as eye - it's basically how we say yes
In my school we have to wear kilts for uniform :)
I'm on the 4th Outlander book, and I had to take a break and read some other stuff, I will pick it up again!
Yay Im from Scotland so it was super cool to hear that you like us so much :*
We sang the theme song "Sky boat song" for chorus in middle school and when I heard it on Outlander I screamed and started singing along while my sister questioned my sanity... opps;)
Aye is pronounced more like eye , loved the recommendations will have to check some out (I'm from Scotland :) )

Yup! I did it because you guys are voting today!
What no! Scottish accents are so cute!
Yip f/n boggin
I recommend Spy for the Queen of Scots by James Herbet. Its about one of Mary Stuarts lady's maids who travels with Mary throughout her life and overhears plots against her and stuff. There's court intrigue and plots and romance involving a very fine young Scottish lord.

You should read Seeker by Arwen Elys Dayton, because they're in Scotland during like two thirds of the book? I'm not sure, but it's a pretty new book and I read it and it was fantastic!
I'm Scottish and I love that you've made a video like this.
I know this is an old video, but have you read any Julie Garwood books? Her books are what brought me to be obsessed with Scotland, as well as find Outlander! I would recommend The Bride! It's my favorite by her!
A small classic i like is called consider the lilies. Also when you go to the highlands visit landmark which is awesome^.^
Those all sound fantastic! I might just have to go read some Scotland books now and possibly go buy a kilt...required reading outfit for the full Scottish experience naturally :)
I love how enthusiastic you are about Scotland and Scottish books.
I looove your channel! I'm Scottish, and just a little note that "aye" is not said like the letter, it's said like "eye". :))
A really good book I read a few years ago that's (kinda) set in Scotland, and the guy speaks with a very heavy Scottish accent, is Between by Cyndi Tefft !!! You should check it out!
It's so nice of you to make a video because of our voting!!😄😄

Loved this video Sasha! Much love all the way from Scotland :)

Im fi SCOTLAND and I'm proud! 👏
Aye, I'm fae the highlands, Scotland. It's nice to see someone taking an interest in Scotland. I love being Scottish ya ken? :)
Read Ondine by Ebony McKenna! It not exactly Scottish, but there's a guy with a Scotish accent. It's a little cheesy, but still pretty good!
I love everything Scottish
completely different tone to these books but Trainspotting is a scottish classic- would definitely recommend you either read it or watch the films!
love from glasgow
You should read, the deepest cut, it takes place in Scotland.
I actually didn't like Doon at all, but I LOVE the Outlander show! So I'm planning on picking the book up soon.
all the guys in my family wore kilts to my moms wedding (because we're Scottish) and trust me, kilts don't look good on everyone. Love your videos:)
Ahh this was really cute! I liked how you dressed up for the video.
I still can't wrap my head around people liking the Scottish accent because I think I sound horrible lol.
Great video.
(I also love that song sky boat) I hope there will be more books based in Scotland you can tell me about. Are you going to make lists of other books based in countries other than america (London, Ireland, France, China...) or can someone point me to a chanel that has lists like that? please
I want to get into more Scottish books. I've read "The Falconer" twice and it was amaaaaaazing
+OysterHunter don't blow it ,there is billions of that bloody fluffy monsters to sell first ~~~~~••
I'm Scottish, so your love for Scotland makes me love you even more :)
