- Watch as I sew a retro pattern, Butterick 6889 (link below). This dress is a nod to the 1950s, and gives off some serious Lucille Ball vibes.
For my fabric, I chose a black and white polka dot printed on Italian cotten stretch. You can find this fabric at Threadymade.com (link below).

I'll show you how I've constructed this dress from start to finish -- including the side seam button plackets and the shoulder pad insertion.

Thank you!! Step 23 was driving me crazy!
Glad this helped -- thanks for saying ☺️
Excellent step by step tutorial.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed 💜
Great presentation
Thank you! 💕
Thank you , I have this dress cut out waiting to sew it. I see I will have to make sure all the markings are in place before I do anything else . You did a very good step by step of making this dress Thank you again
Great -- it's a pretty dress and I love the side buttons. :) you'll enjoy it. 💕
I'm almost done. Just the hand work to finish. I love the way this fits. I will be making several of these in different fabrics, mine is in the same green as in the pattern picture.
🎉🎉🎉🎉
That's the best!! -- when you want to make the same pattern again! 🙌
Enjoy your beautiful new dress!
Wow, that collar and neckline was intense. Love your videos, in case I haven't mentioned. 😍
Haha ... Yes, it was a bit of a tight squeeze to sew before opening up the back slit. McCall's 7948 has a very similar back facing, so I knew it would all work out. 😂
Thanks for the kind comment -- so happy you love the videos. 🌺
What a lovely dress and the silhouette is perfect for this fabric! I keep holding onto some polka dot fabric but now may need to re-think my project, entirely. Thanks for sharing another great project😊
I'm glad you like it, too! When I saw this fabric, I knew a vintage pattern with few seams would be best. Polka dots are happy prints for sure. 😁
Thank you. Think I will try this pattern. You make it look easy.
Wonderful. Thank you for letting me know. And thank you also for supporting the channel through membership -- I appreciate you! 💕
Looks beautiful.😍 😍🥰🥰 Thanks 🙏🏾🙏🏾for sharing. Have a wonderful and blessed day and stay safe.
Thank you! You too!
Beautiful vintage dress❤
Thank you so much 😊
I am so glad I found your channel. I have learned so much and am now making the Everyday dress. I was wondering if you could show how to add trim, like lace or ribbon to spice up garments. Thanks for all your efforts and teaching me to sew.
What a lovely message -- thanks for taking the time to comment. I'll be on the lookout for a pattern with optional trim and I'll post it when I do. 🎉
I adore polkadots! That dress was extra treat for being spotty & somewhat I Love Lucy-ish. It looks fabulous on you 🖤🤍🖤🤍
Thank you Linda! 🥰. Glad you liked the dots. 🖤 🤍
Thank you for posting this video. I am jumping back into sewing after a 20+ year hiatus. Picked up this same pattern and was feeling lost. Thanks to your video, I was able to finish the dress 👗
What a wonderful comment -- thank you for taking the time you let me know this video was helpful. Happy Sewing! 🧵 💕
Back in 1950's 3 inch hem was standard, I only stopped doing that a few years ago.
Very interesting -- thank you. It's odd, because the bottom of dress is slightly curved, so you would have to ease in the material for that deep of a hem. 🤕
It’s soooo lovely!
Thank you❤❤❤
I bought the patterns you made recently! I'm going to watch this one here. I don't do belts because they just roll up on me, but I do like seeing how it looks good on other people.
Nice -- sounds like you have some relaxing sewing time ahead! Party🎉
I wonder if you might make a thinner belt that won't roll, reducing the width of the pattern piece by half.
@@Sew-Happy Mari, I never thought about that. I gave up belts years ago because they always rolled up on me. I might try that.

Hello -- this is a physical pattern.

I don't believe there is a PDF download available.
I have this dress pattern & was wondering what it would look like made up
That’s great! I really love the side button placket!
I rejected shoulder pads from the begining. LOL
Lol. I hear ya. "Vintage" charm, eh? 😁
Wonderful tutorial. Looking forward to making the dress once I get the fabric. May I ask if you went with the recommend ease of the pattern? I want to make a size 18 for recommend bust 42 and the finished size shows bust 54.5. If it is the correct ease for the look I will make it but if it is best to go down a size or more I would love to know.
Thank you for watching. 💕
I did not make any adjustments and just cut my size as matched my measurements. 🎉 I believe the ease will be just fine, and is complemented by the cinching of the waist belt.
@@Sew-Happythank you for the response. I got my fabric and will work on this dress after finishing my current project.
