    The drip is what it's about. Most reverb pedal demonstrations go for settings not sought while skipping the most obvious and searched for,Drip! Surf guitar you bone heads! Start with the right premise. Forget the plates,and rooms, drip drip drip! Great demo. Started right ended right.

    Hey Ryan, just wanted to drop a comment after watching so many of your vids to thanks and you do a great job of being thorough w/ settings, and I find your commentary to be really helpful; like you aren't just talking to hear yourself talk, but trying to communicate what you want us to listen out for. Oh, and of course I love your unabashed drip chasing! Keep up the great work!

    the drip may be a bit better on the O-11, but I just got a Topanga and really like it a lot - the volume control was the selling point for me. Had an FRV-1 and sold it fast. Sounded too sterile. Also the Topanda sounds great in a live band setting.

  • @al271987

    I give the Boss FRV-1 a lot of credit for driving up the market demand for a genuinely good drippy reverb, but I’m very happy to see technology catch up with the demand. The Boss has its charms but the Oceans 11 buries it. The Ventris is killer but way out of my price range. I’m also looking forward to the TC Drip but I have no idea what’s taking that pedal so long to appear.
    In the end though, we have affordable digital drip! Woo hoo!

    • @60CycleHumcast
      @60CycleHumcast  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Im honestly expecting the TC drip to be a predelay based reverb with a surfy voicing, it wont be bad, but I'm not expecting a legit drip out of it. Maybe it will surprise me.

    • @al271987
      @al271987 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    The ventris has almost a kind of flange-y phasey mod thing to the drip - and it’s suffused throughout the whole verb. It doesn’t sound right at all even though it’s warmer and more lush sounding. The oceans 11 sounds pretty close to an outboard spring verb in its overall voicing but the trail sounds really discrete / digital. If it just had some more diffusion and was a little less resonant it’s be pretty great.

    THIS is what I'm looking for in a demo. Thanks a LOT! I have the FRV-1 and the drip is more than fine but it does NOT handle fuzz/drive/etc indeed. Sounds like EHX really has that part down as well! I already wanted to check it out but you convinced me. I need it.
    I also noticed it has the 'trails' function, so if you bypass the pedal, the sound isn't cut off. Wonderful.
    Bu what could we do to make that 'kick' function (love it!) just a bit more natural? Subtle pitch shifter? Naah, that shifts the trails too. Irregular delay? Mmmmmh. How to do that...
    Time for some experiments... as soon as I have one.

      TheGoldenChicken Id say it depends what u want to do. It does a bunch of weird stuff lots of other reverb dont do. I have Hall of fame 2 and Boss Rv-6 and others too. I'm gonna put this on my board but I had RV-6 on it. Not sure If I will like oceans 11 better or not. If say if you are interested in some of the odd features or rhis nice spring check it out. If you just want a normal reverb, I say don't get it.

  • @jeffmarchant4312

    The drip is the spring reverb in the amp spring cage...on reverb and a higher volume on treble when it kicks back by rubbing the cage internally...to electronically show from a solid state pedal it's difficult to reproduce without a tape roll-off unless you bleed your capacitors...

    Ventris or Oceans 11 for use with high gain distortion leads ? I am not talking about just chugging along,mainly looking for a nice sustained reverb sound that goes with smooth lead lines with not overly saturated distortion..I am using an EVH 5150-3 50 watt head and now a MB Single Rectifier solo head seperate but these will be my distortion types used. right now I have an EHX Holy Grail Neo that works great but looking for more options with 1 pedal,Kinda want the Ventris for quantity/quality and the EHX Oceans 11 for that nice EHX tone..price wise no comparison here.

  • @robbertreus5905

    Great video again. Love the Ventris but I could never afford it. I do own the frv1 and have bought the oceans 11 recently. I definitely prefer the frv1. Just keep the tone at 10 o clock and you're good. The Oceans 11 is too sterile for me.
    I am very interested in the Surfy Bear though..
    Thanks for all the videos, they're very helpful! X

  • @thguy22

    I've owned both the Oceans 11 and the Ventris and I prefer the EHX. The Ventris Outboard Spring Algorithm is spot on but I got tired of adjusting the myriad of settings on the Ventris and it just made me miss how simple the EHX was.

      Jack Knife it’s technique, palm mite the notes you really want to drip

  • @Greenplantsky
    @Greenplantsky ปีที่แล้ว

    Well imo it’s not quite fair to compare Oceans 11 to Ventris because the last one is in stereo. I own an Oceans 11 (and I love it!) but I’m building a full stereo board right now and now trying to choose between Oceans 12 and Ventris - THAT would be a fair comparison. And since I read some people’s complains on the Oceans 12 I really tend to buy a Ventris.

      The FRV-1 is one of the worst pedals Boss ever made. Couldn‘t get rid of it fast enough. It had that drip when no other pedal had it and that’s what made it famous, but at the same time it had that filtering going on which changed the whole guitar sound to unusable. Too bad. It‘s a faulty design....

    What's your sound recording equipment?

  • @Myself6M
    @Myself6M ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah, to me it also sounds that the Ventris has a bit of a warmer tone (not by much though) and more hi fidelity. Too Hi Fi in my opinion actually i.e to my ears on the Ventris the trail appears on the form and perfect harmonic Tap-Delay-pedal-like oscillations. On the oceans 11 the trail was short and Sharp, but absent of Hi Fi exagurations (i.e. delay-like trails) and the trail appears slightly more chaotic (which appears more realistic to me as the springs wouldn't likely perform harmonic oscillations in one direction and instead you would hear a slightly more uneven wave packet with a combination of longitudinal and vertical oscillations. Moreover, I am pretty confident you can dial in a longer trail on the Ocean's 11 to be comparable to length of the trail-length dialed in on the Ventris. Then maybe the Ocean's 11 would have such a sharp trail. At the same time this slight distortion on the signal of oceans 11 reminds more of and old tube unit, as tubes always distort a lot at such high settings, something I didn't hear on the Ventris.

    Thanks for the great video. Ryan have you tried the Secondary Knob Function for the spring setting? The manual says the TIME knob will allow you to choose one of three spring lengths, up to a 24-inch spring. And the TONE knob adds a little bit of preamp drive before the reverb circuit.
    I just wonder what the "spring" length will do to the sound. I'm getting the pedal tomorrow (almost today in my time zone).

    The Ocean 11 sounds great but what I like about the Ventris is its dual reverb (i.e. echo and shimmer). I own neither. TBH, I could buy 3 cheaper pedals for the price of a new Ventris though...like a Zoom Ms-70 CDR and an Oceans 11 with cash left for a decent delay pedal.

    I think I hear the Oceans coloring the "dry" tone, for example min. 7.39 in the video. The guitar signal sounds harsher and brighter than the Ventris, of course also the reverb on top sounds also brighter but I worry about the "dry" signal. It would be interesting to review it with that in mind and compares the bypassed tones with the guitar through the pedal. Thanks for the demo Ryan! . As for nasty comments.....pink flamingos is a give up on the pink skin subject? XDXD.

      This is the only reason I am considering selling my Oceans 11 and getting a Ventirs (or something else). I have found it colors the dry sound of the guitar more than a true bypass pedal. STill though...it's a tough choice as the Ocean's 11 does sound fantastic overall.

      @GoldenDeathMusic 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      C. P. It’s a shame as the reverb sounds are great and the spring is one of the most authentic I’ve heard. If they ever released an improved version like they did with the canyon (and improved the dry signal problems) that would be a fantastic pedal. I ended up selling mine and getting a ventris, which is more costly but essentially has all the same features without the tone issue.

      maybe if you get creative with some kind of envelope filter/auto wah you might be able to get closer to that sound. can you find the song?

    Pretty new to your channel. Not sure if you respond. If anyone else can jump in & help I’d appreciate it. I’m doing surfy stuff but with a punk edge so I have my amp semi-cranked for some natural break-up. I bought the oceans 11...love the drip. It is really ice picky with my strat in the bridge pickup (even though it’s a single sized Seymour Duncan humbucker). I have to roll the tone almost all the way off to make it even manageable. It sounds good except when I do muted chords to get that snappy reverb tail on the end. Question is, is this just inherent because I have my amp too cranked or is there something I’m missing? To take the ice pick out I pretty much have to lower all the settings so they don’t sound like what I love about the pedal anymore when at stage volume. Any advice would be great. Thank you.

      It’s all about feel! Totally has its own style, like jazz, blues, classic rock, it’s all about phrasing and technique...gotta to practice the tremolo picking, arpeggios...simplicity is your best friend. I strongly recommend picking a surf song you dig and learn it. It’s your best bet.

    Ventris has annoying chorus-like modulation on trails. Oceans hasn`t.

    I can't justify the money for Strymon pedals. Unless you are a professional musician their pedals are not for the working class bar scene. Electro Harmonix seems to get that concept.

      @60CycleHumcast  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      did you load the offboard reverb setting with the update? you have to plug it into a computer and save it to a preset. if you are having trouble hit up Source Audio, they are very helpful.

    • @billyhellmaker
      @billyhellmaker 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Video idea for you. I did load, and have been playing with the outboard reverb tank from the update. I have also gone in via the phone app. Today I played through my 3 p90 LP, my Strat, my Tele, my Gretsch, my 2 home built Teles and my p90 SG. I went through my 68 Vibro Champ, 57 Tweed, Falcon and my Tweaker. Then I realized - what the hell do I know aobut getting drip? I have never had anything drip before. So maybe that's a video idea for the king of reverbs - which pickups, tone settings, amp settings, palm muting style - all the things we need to know to master the drip sound.

    After decades of gigging I still have to find a Boss product that doesnt sound lacking.
    I understand Boss stuff works for metal, so it is valid there.
    This video is another great example. The Boss sounds digital and .. lacking. The EHX Oceans is so much more natural. The Ventris is better than the Boss, but still sounds digital.

    Should I swith my Topanga to the Ocean's 11?

    • @60CycleHumcast
      @60CycleHumcast  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The topanga is a great sounding reverb, but its not a true drip, it uses a pre-delay to simulate the feel of a drip in an effective way.
