I learned to make espresso many years ago as a waitress/ barista in one of the most famous Viennese coffee houses. There was just measuring by spoon, it was fast and a coffee was always consistently magnificent. Now I use same simple method with home espresso machine - simplicity still is the king!
I'd love to see an explanation why you expect specific amount of ml from specific amount of grams of coffee? Additionally technique for users of more advanced machines where you have flow control and other features like in ECM synchronica and what's its impact for a coffee? What's preinfusion and what's its impact for coffee?

It's simpler, but the weight can vary depending on the roast level of your coffee!

Single dosing is the best way, I usually do 0.1-0.3 grams and I usually get close to my desired weight
