There are different kinds of Newars. Forefathers of some came from Baishali, Bihar, India.
Many other Newars are descendants of indigenous, physically mongoloid ( not Mongolian or mongol ) people of the valley and surrounding areas.

Majority of newa are local aboriginal tribes most probably todays gopalis, jyapus and dalits.
a small minority is the newer immigrants from south including rajputs and their mixed children, maithil brahmins anf few other occupational caste. majority are still the tribal 'low castes' tho.
during malla and lichhivi periods, valley was ruled by the kings in strict hindu law and the majority of people ie, low castes were treated as slaves. Nyaya vikasinin by jayasthiti malla mentions low castes being prohibited from wearing ornaments, full sleaved clothes, pugrees, and were not allowed to build homes in main city areas and had to go live out ofcity. they were not allowed to walk on the middle of the path.
later when gorkhalis captured the valley, the richer and purer castes ran off with their wealth and the poor dalits and some mixed high cstes were left. The chathariyas a, like shrestha, pradhan, hada, maskey, amatya etc. re these mixed high castes with some local aboriginal blood.
this high castes , not even 1/3 of newa population ie about 60 or 70 thousand , ruled and enjoyed power during lichhivi and malla era as relatives of kings and courtiers, enjoyed power during rana and king era as courtiers, secretaries , high bureaucrats after ranas, monopoly businessmen appointed by ranas outside kathmandu and so on.
even now, the 60-70 thousand high caste newa take almost all of sarkari janajati mahila reservations originally thought for the really poor jajajati castes.

No they are not. They are Kshatriya and they themselves have written that they are Suryavanshis (which is one of the lineages of Kshatriyas).

why do u question your own history? Do Newars look like Indian Rajputs??? No way!!! stop destroying own culture and religion by putting question mark on it.

But that doesn’t change the fact that the origins of some Newar families (Chathari Shresthas) were Rajputs from India. When we talk about so much of identity and history, there is nothing wrong with digging deep into the past. That doesn’t make Sushant any less Newar.
