I like the way his hands just wave around on the keys in one single motion while playing complicated riffs.. Mr. Wonder is ONE with the keys.. truly awesome to see :)
Stevie had the first Motif when it came out, so I'm sure also with his staff, he has no problem learning to use the Motif XS. Yamaha may have even designed him a special one since he tours with one and the name is showing.
This is the beauty of TH-cam. Where else could you see this type of impromptu jamming by the great Stevie Wonder. Broadcast TV and cable are so passe' at this point. Long live youtube!
I'm so glad Stevie is still alive with us since Michael Jackson died. When MJ died it was like music died, but then I think of Stevie and I feel better.
Mr. Wonder is getting pick-attack nuance and immediacy from a WEIGHTED KEYBOARD on that first classical guitar sound. And then there is what that man played ..... So incredible.
You're right. Even though I own a motif because it's a better board over all. I still and have always liked Roland grand piano sounds since the early 90's
That Motif-XS is a great piece of kit, in the hands of a Master like Stevie things could catch fire.... Some of those funky sounds and patches were probably invented by Stevie back in the day. I hope YAMAHA gave him one for free..
WOWZERS! Will someone please explain what he is doing between 1:14 to 1:16...is he hitting is hand or the keys with his left hand....so so cool is this man...it's kind of unfair really....if only I had an ounce of his coolness...
But wait - if you watch closely he really does bend his fingers when he strikes a note. He just keeps them straight when they're not in use. But the REAL trippy thing is how little he uses his right thumb. Long complex passages with NO THUMB! Check it out.
Stevie Wonder was deeply involved with Kurzweil, when , how and why did he become a Yamaha guy , I am naively asking b/c i love Stevie Wonder and I have a Kurzweil
you didn't see him switch up the patches and messing with the faders a lot did you? He's just playing the keys and mod wheels which you know he does need to see.
It's the best workstation out there period I can make that old 70's style of tracks with the xs I tried one out at the guitar center and it's tight it has all the sounds to compose some classic shit you would think it's a live band performing on it. I just think a lot of cats don't use the motif right they can't compose on it that good and they make those casio type sounding beats on it.
I'm sure you're a guitarist that can't accept this kind of keyboard technology... I'm a guitarist also and I think if I didn't know that its a keyboard, I will be thinking its a real guitar. Sorry Mate... Ex: Metheny, Scofield = Unnatural guitar player...
Realism? I've played them all, from fantom-x to tritons to motifs...The Yamaha Motif is the ultimate keyboard for acoustic realism- Anyone who knows acoustics will hear it from The yamaha motif- thats for sure- Play the instrument under professional conditions (its a professional instrument) and you'll hear. I thought it was Roland at one time, then Korg (bought one, but when i played the motif, sold my korg and bought a motif.
yeah, i guess that's why i think he wasn't the right choice to do a demo. Sure, the endorsing power is good, but people'd be thinking, of course it sounds good - it's stevie wonder playing! Now, if you had some average joe playing...that would look a whole lot more inviting
Stevie Wonder he is totally amazing of course, but I cannot believe so many keyboard fans think this sounds like a guitar. Close your eyes and listen to it again. It still sounds like a keyboard toned as a guitar. No matter which master is behind it or the skill of phrasing it still does not sound like a guitar player. In the short 30 second passage at the beginning there are three parts that are unnatural to a guitar. As for guitar v Keyboard debate it is pointless. Learn both, enjoy both.
I disagree. Not every keyboardist can play the guitar, only Stevie (and a select few) can cause he/they know/s the style. 90% of every other keyboardist would sound like they are playing the keys on a guitar sound.
Hayyy leave my Fantom alone lolol' When I finally got the money together it was a hard decision but the Fantom won me over all because I'm a piano man and the for that reason the Fantom had a better grand piano sound then the Motif.
the first set that stevie plays sounds like a beautiful spanish classic...shows the amazing depth of wonders musical talent and knowledge.
I like the way his hands just wave around on the keys in one single motion while playing complicated riffs.. Mr. Wonder is ONE with the keys.. truly awesome to see :)
that man is a god!
and those keys sound brilliant!
Stevie had the first Motif when it came out, so I'm sure also with his staff, he has no problem learning to use the Motif XS. Yamaha may have even designed him a special one since he tours with one and the name is showing.
this bloke has so much music inside of him!!!
the man is GOD - gotta sell my Motif ES and buy the XS!
He's a pure genius !!!!!!
He can play anything an make it sound good!
He is amazing... Just amazing...
O.k 1:13 to 1:15 I learned something new I've never seen or though of pulling something like that on keys thank you Stevie.
he cant read yo
This is the beauty of TH-cam. Where else could you see this type of impromptu jamming by the great Stevie Wonder. Broadcast TV and cable are so passe' at this point.
Long live youtube!
Also saw him play the XF in the 2014 Lucca concert videos
I'm so glad Stevie is still alive with us since Michael Jackson died. When MJ died it was like music died, but then I think of Stevie and I feel better.
Mr. Wonder is getting pick-attack nuance and immediacy from a WEIGHTED KEYBOARD on that first classical guitar sound. And then there is what that man played .....
So incredible.
He plays perfectly; therefore, if you fingers are straight, bent, crooked, who the hell cares if it sounds good?
I got this piano it has every sound you can imagin man
Simply amazing
Yea guy like him he just says put me a guitar on here of i like that then he just goes to it. He sees the music in his mind man pure jam. True Improv.
Stevie is a living legend!
This dude's pretty dang good! And he's even playing with his eyes closed!! I can't play 1/3 that well with my eyes open...
Best musician, best Keyboard, words for what? ;)
Sickness!!Stevei is amazing!! if ya''l had the choice, would you give up your sight to be this good?I'm tempted to say YES!!! I want the XS RACK!!!

Stevie makes those that can see wish they were blind.LOL! This guy is one of the greats! God bless you Stevie!
for a second there I thought that was an actual guitar! I sooo want one of these!!!!
DUDE....WTF is your problem? He's a legend and he won plenty awards to prove it!
What awards have you won?
.......so good
What a legend.
You're right. Even though I own a motif because it's a better board over all. I still and have always liked Roland grand piano sounds since the early 90's

The genius at work.
I like when he took his left hand and slaps it on his right hand to create that sound
LEGENDARY!!!
Lovely! Stevie was also doodling on the new Rhodes Mk7 - if you have that, could you please put that up too? Thanks.
holey shit.... his guitar skills for a keyboard Blow me away!
I love you Stevie Wonder.
WOW Steve IS AMAZING GEEEZZ "
xpanded articulation has huge potential
I have the XF. What patches/performances is this??
@zaenzaen Not really, it just show that Stevie is trying out diffrent patches, the guitar being 1 of them. Anywho it's still tight!
@nextblain You mean 26 Grammys and counting!
WOWZERS! Will someone please explain what he is doing between 1:14 to 1:16...is he hitting is hand or the keys with his left hand....so so cool is this man...it's kind of unfair really....if only I had an ounce of his coolness...
Wow how can he do that his eyes are closed? :D
Hahahah, the "yaaay" at the end reminds me a lot of Monty Python's The Holy Grail xD
The "Yes, fool" response was to the guy who asked should he cut his eyes out?
my role model mane .
@zaenzaen Actually from 1:48 on, it sounds like 5 or 6-string bass (Matt Garrison, John Patitucci) than guitar! lol!
thats one GOD BLESSED MAN,stevie wonder been hot since finger tip
Well said brother
Legend!!!
@Coowallsky
listen to any vintage synth like a roland d50, yamaha dx7, roland jupiter 8, etc. then you know what I mean
But wait - if you watch closely he really does bend his fingers when he strikes a note. He just keeps them straight when they're not in use. But the REAL trippy thing is how little he uses his right thumb. Long complex passages with NO THUMB! Check it out.
Stevie Wonder was deeply involved with Kurzweil,
when , how and why did he become a Yamaha guy ,
I am naively asking b/c i love Stevie Wonder and I have a Kurzweil
@zaenzaen
actually I agree being a keyboardists myself but not only I want to be a guitar player, I want to be Stevie !
@Synthweasel he can do so wonders? for this is Stevie WONDER
I wish I could afford one of those..
you didn't see him switch up the patches and messing with the faders a lot did you? He's just playing the keys and mod wheels which you know he does need to see.
He Rocks man!!! hehehe
He is builtin with the keys..😁
THE MAN!!!! :-D
what was that thing he did at 1:14?
2:15
It's the best workstation out there period I can make that old 70's style of tracks with the xs I tried one out at the guitar center and it's tight it has all the sounds to compose some classic shit you would think it's a live band performing on it. is the song he's playing at 0:35 a freestyle or a real song?
Is there a cd from this improvising stevie material or something like it?
@Michiel Keller
If you ever get the chance, go to one of his shows. LOTS of improv from SW and his band.
exactly.
I've got :55 - 1:18 on repeat...So smooth:)
Mark Knopler and Lee Ritenour also
did you notice how much it looks like the triton now?
I'm sure you're a guitarist that can't accept this kind of keyboard technology...
I'm a guitarist also and I think if I didn't know that its a keyboard, I will be thinking its a real guitar. Sorry Mate...
Ex: Metheny, Scofield = Unnatural guitar player...
Cool 8) At 1:40 I get the feeling he goes so much against the leading harmony I love it.. like he's angry at their tuning :D!
hahahaha hes hitting into badass mode...
Are they weighted keys?
honestly you could give stevie a midi controller and no sounds and he would make it a hit. its almost not fair.
LOL Nathan watts at the end...
how much?
wowser

I read this offer in almost every motif xs video post, hope u doing serious ? LOL
Peace out to all the Motif s
This is it lol gotta get rid of my casio and get this monster
Stevie Wonder he is totally amazing of course, but I cannot believe so many keyboard fans think this sounds like a guitar.

those fingers got 22 grammys xD
I disagree. Not every keyboardist can play the guitar, only Stevie (and a select few) can cause he/they know/s the style. 90% of every other keyboardist would sound like they are playing the keys on a guitar sound.
ZEAN HE'S DEMOING THE MOTIF NOT TRYING TO BE A GUITAR PLAYER
Guitarists wish they could play larger chords:}
stevie is a big old man nowadays.
Yes, fool.
Just a though. He is getting older... Arthritis creeping up maybe? (About the way he plays..) Hope it isn't that though.
Hayyy leave my Fantom alone lolol' When I finally got the money together it was a hard decision but the Fantom won me over all because I'm a piano man and the for that reason the Fantom had a better grand piano sound then the Motif.
I'd say he got them straight fingers for eating cake- by the looks of things....
Thelonious Monk had bad technique but sounded good and so did Dizzy Guillespie.
@JustinC721 Lol....
@Synthweasel Now I feel bad I have a Casio Hhahahahaha
Come on its 3 years old, give us a new Motif, for god sake.
@munkeepilot You're not serious, right? Stevie Wonder's blind.
