Turns out having actors cost more than the digital effects they used to create the fly for most of the shots. So just pay Cranston and Paul for 7 days of shooting and minimize location to the laundry exterior.
I dont think it's to save money. This show uses space, location and cinematography to symbolize many hidden clues of the characters' mentality, state of being, feelings etc. I think because of the "contamination" in the lab, Walt feels trapped/ boxed in. He's unable to go anywhere until he deals with this problem but can't reach it or kill it. Its naive to think the show just didnt have the budget to film in other locations.
@aulae The episode was shot on almost entirely one set for budgetary reasons. Vince Gilligan said "We were hopelessly over budget ... And we needed to come up with what is called a bottle episode, set in one location."

This was a controversial episode in that it was split into fans who hated it and fans who love it. It’s a very symbolic episode and the fly represents Walt’s GUILT.... he feels guilty about everything he has done up to this point and it’s consuming and contaminating his very being. The next two episodes are full of SHOCK endings.... you will be shocked.
One of the greatest episodes of the series. I see it as the middle point of the show, where we just soak in this genuine interaction between Walt and Jesse as they reminisce on the past while also hinting at what's to come for them in the future.

If you’re a fan of excellent cinematography, great writing, amazing camera work and, perfect lighting/angles then you’ll understand why this episode is so good and masterfully crafted. If you’re not into that kind of stuff then.................. maybe you should stay in the audience and never step foot behind a camera. 😂😭 P.S the fact that they barely spent any of their budget on this makes it that much better of an episode.
