- The first episode in the long-running FM18 journeyman series Non-League to Legend sees us taking charge of the first club in this year's journey, Alfreton Town. Will we conquer Football Manager 2018 or add another sacking to the collection? Today's video includes an introduction to the team, our summer transfers and our first game of the National League North season against Blyth.

Reminder for everyone - this isn't the Nuneaton save! That's called Backing the Boro, and the next episode of that will be out at 9pm on Tuesday. There'll only be 3-4 episodes of Backing the Boro a week, which is why I'm still doing a normal Non-League to Legend as well on weekdays at 4pm. There are a couple of videos on the channel explaining that in more detail if you need it.
does this mean ur Nuneaton save isn't a Non league to legend? I love it if u would take Nuneaton all the way to the prem tbh, so i think u made a wise choice my man, will be following both series of course!

Awesome Kev. I'm on the same save. Living in Oz but from Nottingham. Craig Westcarr has 11 goals from 9 starts for me. Guy is on fire.
Basilclly Kev this how the playoffs works:
Teams in 4th & 5th play one match at home to the teams that finish 6th and 7th.
The winners of those matches then plays one match away to the teams that finish 2nd and 3rd in the semi finals.
Then it's the play off final. I believe it's played at the home of whoever finishes higher in the league ( that last bit could be wrong)

I'm currently on my 3rd season with North Ferriby, stuck in National League North, and 5 of your starting XI are in my current squad. Owens, Platt and Marshall are beauts!
Lump it forward, no messing about. Its going to be a great series
Due to how little GK get injured or sent off you are better off having no sub keeper and having an extra outfield player on the bench especially when limited to 5 subs
The flexibility of that extra outfield player will probably win you more games/points that having no GK once in a solar eclipse
Position 2&3 get automatic semi final spots and 4567 play for a place in the semi final
That's a better system then the one in the Sky Bet Championship in my opinion
Makes sense in theory I guess but I still don't get why the national leagues bothered to change it

Change the left Winger to a left midifilder and put them bouth on suport. The full backs put them on support and play on counter flex whith less instructions

Interesting! One thing that surprises me is how many 3 and 3 1/2 star players you have...I would have thought at that level they'd be 1 and 2 stars (or is this relative to the league?)
It’s relative to the reputation of the club and the quality of other players at the club

I would always ignore reviews on FM games - especially on Steam which is surely the only place they’re mixed. Just like every year, it’s the best FM game they’ve ever made.

This doing Alfreton before Nuneaton means you can see who is good in the league so you can sign them at Nuneaton

lollujo if Nuneaton isn't on non league to legend rules you could have played this save first and signed those who you like the look of in the Nuneaton one meaning you don't have to spend ages scouting. Plus it may help you progress quicker through the leagues

This is Classic Kev! Absolutely no disrespect towards the "Backing the Boro" save and certainly not towards Nuneaton Town (they've been great), but this is the save I am most looking forward to. Maybe that puts me in the minority, but I think of this format as your specialty... like your finishing move

Playoffs; Quarter final 4th v 7th, 5th v 6th. Then the Semi Final 2nd v winner of 4th/7th and 3rd v winner of 5th/6th. Then the winner of the semi-finals play inthe final. No 2 legs just a knockout tournament

Apparently, 4th plays 7th, and 5th plays 6th. The winner of those matches each play a semi-final against 2nd or 3rd.
7 team playoffs must be a week 1 bye for first place? 2nd plays 7th, 3rd plays 6th, 4th plays 5th, then the 4 remaining teams are in semi-finals?
I started at Alfreton and had exactly the same fixture list as you so it'll be interesting for me to track your first season against mine. For reference I lost 1-0 in the opening game against Blyth so you're already three points up on me. I'm going into the 4th season, currently at Barrow having just won the Vanarama National playoffs
I love Non-League,Lower League Management, and that is why I like you Kev and the Lollujo TH-cam channel. Kofi Boateng looks very intresting. Fun to see that the back-up keeper has been one season in Swedish leagues..
Yep you should never really do complex when you are down in lowest tiers, the players are too stupid to understand tactial teories..

Hopefully your Non-League to Legend game starts better than mine, sacked by Blyth on New Years Day. Then had Gateshead offer me a job somehow!
I am managing Blyth as my team in FM18, not that good of a manager, board has been warning me for four months that I can get sacked, Maguire is a stud and the defense is very inconsistent.
Oh no, not Jonathan Nixon. I brought him in at Braintree Town on my non-league playthrough, and he's been appalling.
Bradley Wood was sacked by the Imps for betting offences primarily, but he was in trouble for a range of things including driving whilst banned and assault. This all happened in 2017 😂😂
Kev, I would carefully monitor Westcarr in the medical centre. Have him start as the advanced forward/poacher with Hirst as the target man and sub in the young striker for Westcarr in the 2nd half of each game so you have less chance of losing the vitally important and aging Westcarr to injuries.

Of course you can play double poachers. With 2 strikers splitting their mentality is simply a tradeoff, not an advantage.

If you sign a player with the intention of playing them regularly and they just ask for an appearance fee, change the offer to part time, lower the app fee way down and pay them a weekly wage. A player who asked for £300 - £400 app fee will sign for around £85 p/w with £10-15 app fee. Save loads of money when you get rid of some of the higher wages.
Also, lionel stone is a great signing at the back. He’ll sign for £85 p/w

It’s relative to the reputation of the club and not entirely accurate, depending on the judging player ability and potential of the member of staff assessing them
