  • In this provocative broadcast, Rabbi Tovia Singer answers a Muslim caller’s question: How does Judaism regard the followers of Islam? Are Muslims considered B’nai Noah (righteous gentiles)? In his intriguing response, Rabbi Singer explores the status of two world religions and sharply contrasts the Jewish view of Islam and Christianity.

I grew up as a Muslim and happen to know quite a lot about it, having lived it and having studied Islamic religion, history, literature etc in some depth, even learning Arabic (and Persian and Turkish) just for that purpose. I've watched a number of videos now of Rabbi Singer answering questions on Islam. And I have to say, I'm very impressed! It's quite unusual to come across a person of non-Muslim background able to talk about Islamic belief and practice without making any mistakes. He doesn't slip up in even the nuances! Bravo, Rabbi!

Only difference is that Christians have also declared Jesus as Devine, which in turn makes it Paganism. Both Islam and Judaism worship only One G-d - the,G-d of Abraham. Our differences with Islam pertain to their claims that Jesus is both a messiah and a prophet, for which Jews don't believe in either.

Rabbi Tovia Singer, Salam Alaikum! I just wanted to take this opportunity to actually admire your vast knowledge of Judaism, Islam, and various other religions of the world. What boggles my mind at times is your absolute dead honesty especially when it comes to Islam, because as as a Muslim who has traveled almost all his life, I can actually testify as to how misunderstood our religion is and how it is so difficult for us to defend our faith in the light of these fanatic groups around the world, which has nothing to do with the true message of Islam itself. It has brought upon a great sense of relief and joy for me to be enlightened by such a knowledge being such as yourself, that as a Muslim I diligently watch and follow your lectures just as much as I would follow any of our prestigious Imams of the Muslim faith. May Allah bless you for the work you're doing, as true monotheism is the only way to the true salvation! Jazāk Allāhu Khayran!

"Indeed, those who believe, and those who are Jews, and the Christians and the Sabians, any who believe in God and the Last Day, and work righteousness, shall have their reward with their Lord; on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve."
ARE ALL THE PEOPLE OF THE BOOK BLASPHEMOUS AND OR EVIL? - NO!
      003:113-114
"Not all of them are alike: Of the People of the Book are a portion that stand: They rehearse the verses of God all night long, and they prostrate themselves in adoration. They believe in God and the Last Day; they enjoin what is right, and forbid what is wrong; and they hasten in good deeds: They are in the ranks of the righteous"

I was a former Christian who is now a Muslim, and certainty what Rabbi Singer has stated is correct. The modern day Christian Bible has been altered so much. Sometimes the Bible itself will tell you in the footnotes that a specific verse or passage is not authentic. Look at 1 John 5:7 for example. This verse will have a footnote at the bottom of the page to indicated that it is not an original verse and that it was added into the Latin vulgate. Another passage that is not authentic that the Bible itself admits in the footnotes, is the story of the adulterous woman, (Let he without sin cast the first stone) found in John 5:73-8:11. It will tell you that this passage was not found in any early manuscript.
An in-depth look at these verses and others done by scholars like Dr. Bart Erhman and Dr. Jerald Dirks concludes where and when these were added in.
Another silly claim that Christians make is that Jesus came to completely change all previous law. Of course, this is an English translation, but the Greek text shows even more than these verses supposedly said by Jesus, indicate that nothing from the law will change as long as the earth and heaven exist (which they still do, otherwise I wouldn’t be typing this right now), and that anyone who changes it (Paul) will not see heaven.
    Mathew 5:17-20
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.”

Those Jews you mentioned are Neturei Karta whom are considered a heretical sect in the Torah world. If you define Zionism as a secular political movement then yes, most religious would not agree with this. However if you define Zionism as the belief that the Land of Israel was promied by G-d to teh Jewish people, that the Jewish people have the right to independance and self determination in the Land of Israel, that the Torah and the 613 mitzvot can ONLY be properly fullfilled by living in the Land of Israel...then almost all religious Jews, including the Ultra-Orthodox would be considered Zionists or better still, "Lovers of Zion". Religiois Jews pray three time a day that G-d should bring the Jewish people back to Israel from eth four corners of the would and establish a Davidic kingdom once again.
One more important point. Rabbi Tovia Singer is a Zionist and nationalist.

You are absolutely wrong. Religious Jews pray three times a day for the return of the Jewish people to the Land of Israel, that the Torah can only be properly fulfilled by a Jew living in the Land of Israel under national Jewish sovereignty. This is a central point to a Torah religious Jew like me and Rabbi Tovia Singer. Rabbi Tovia Singer is in fact a Zionist and nationalist.

We have Arab high court judges who have sent Jewish politians to prison, we have Arab army officers and police, we have Arab polititians and Arab diplomats who represent Israel around the world. This is clearly false. Why you claim that they are Bnai Noah when they outright reject the Torah and claim that the Religions (Judaism and Xtianity) that came before it are "Battel" or nullified? A true, righteous Bnai Noah has to accept the 7 laws BECAUSE they were given on Mt. Sinai. Muslims claim that the Torah was/is made up by the Jews and that we have re-written the original Torah and made things in our favor instead. Now only the koran is the true book of G-D (or soo they claim). They clearly are not good Bnai Noah, not to mention that MANY of them wish for our destruction and fight against G-D by fighting against Israel. They stop Jews from even praying on the Temple Mt. something you personally witnessed. Soo just because you live in Indonesia (why?) and because Xtianity is easy to pick on as opposed to Islam where they can chopp your head off, doesn't mean you can or should falsify that bad and wrong ideology.

Actually, we don't believe that the Torah was entirely made up by the Jews. We do believe in the original Torah revealed by Allah (swt) to Moses (asws) and in any other scriptures revealed to other Israelite prophets. What we reject are the fabrications introduced by the rabbis and scribes throughout the millennia. These can easily be verified when making a comparison between the text of the Torah and that of the Qur'an, and also within the Torah itself.

These laws are presented in Jewish texts including Mishnah, Gemarrhah and Talmud. These texts are important because they give meaning to today's events. For example, in the Torah it says you shall do no work on Shabbat. The rabbis have to define "work" as applied to today. Today's work includes turning on electricity which of course did not exist during time Moses received the Ten Commandments on Mt Sinai. It's not uncommon to find religious Talmudic scholars become lawyers because both require the same kind of critical thinking

The Rabbi did not answer the question "Can a Muslim be a Ben Noah?". So here is the answer : to be a ben Noah one must take upon himor herself to practice at least 7 commandments (identified as the seven commandements of the children of Noah) and to do so because you recognize that every single letter of the Torah written by Moses is the divine truth. This undertaking has to be performed in the presence of a rabbinical court of 3 judges. Given that as a Muslim, you are to believe that the Jews falsified some verses regarding Isaac and Ismael, then it follows that one can NOT be a Muslim and a Ben Noah at the same time.

Thank you sir! Very intellectual and respectful answer. In islam we actually believe that traditional jews who follow the original testaments will go to heaven inshallah. This shows the amount of bonds and similarities between both religions

When I see Muslims reacting, it is always with respect and love. When I see a Christian reacting, it is 90% hate and emotional.
    Why is that? 🤔

I have recently come across Rabbi Singer's videos. They are indeed eye-openers! I never knew that such antipathy to Christianity existed in some Jewish circles...almost to the point of hatred it seems. I shall continue to view his videos with great interest to better understand his point of view.
BTW: I would be most interested in hearing what Rabbi Singer has to say about surah 5, ayat 82.

Rabbi Singer: You certainly have an in-depth knowledge of Islam and Islamic beliefs.
What you said about Muslim beliefs in the above vlog is absolutely correct. Your knowledge and understanding and cordiality towards Islam and Muslims has won a high place of respect, admiration, and love for you in our hearts.
As a Muslim who has studied the First Five Books of Moses, I find Judaism and Islam so close in the fundamentals of their faiths that I have no doubt that the two religions have a common source, i.e., the God Almighty. Furthermore , we Muslims have ALL the Jewish prophets in common with the Jews , from Abraham, Issac, Jacob, all the way to Moses ( may God's peace and blessings be upon them all). As a matter of fact the Quran is full of events from the life of Moses and the Children of Israel from the days of their Egyptian captivity to their freedom and Exodus .
I find both Judaism and Islam have more in common in the fundamental of their faiths than what differs them in details. I hope one day the force and love of our respective religious beliefs will bring us closer and unite us as one people. God willing. InshaAllah.
With best wishes and Salaam. Shalom.

great video.this Rabbi is correct in the points he makes.Juddism and Islam are more connected then any other faith. but our peoples are so dis United And some even hate each other just for being that religion.

    • @ToviaSinger1
      @ToviaSinger1  7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Judaism and Islam are deeply and fundamentally connected in our core beliefs. However, the tragic and seemingly ubiquitous tensions in our generation has nothing to do with religion (din)
at all. Rather, it is the epic, noxious politics that sparked so much pain to our family. As I mentioned in a different video, Judaism and Islam are probably the least eclectic religions in the world. Despite this, and a tragic dark cloud of politics that seems to poison everything, there remains a steadfast, striking mutual respect between our faiths. Will we witness the final redemption quickly in our lifetime? I pray that this is the will of God.

Jews, Christians, Muslims and by extension all humanity should show respect to one another and not use offensive language. Our God is One(as in One in One) and His Message to us through the many prophets and messengers is One. Worship ONLY Me and shun the worship of idols, man, animals, terrestrial bodies etc. Although the Message is one, it has overtime been understood by some as different for each group. Divisions such as "Jews and Gentiles", "Noahides" etc were created. I'm not aware of Muslims classified as ",Noahides". God(Allah) appointed Noah(pbuh) as a messenger to his people. Those who believed were Muslims or Submittees ONLY to God(Allah) and those who rejected or doubted were disbelievers. This is repeated for all prophets and messengers from Abraham(pbuh), Ishmael(pbuh), Isaac(pbuh), Jacob(pbuh), Joseph(pbuh), Moses(pbuh), Jesus(pbuh) to the last and final messenger Mohamed(pbuh). This was the trend- believers and rejectors/doubters. The FIRST Muslims or Submittees ONLY to God(Allah) were Adam(pbuh) and Eve(Hawa-Gbph). The first rebel against God(Allah) was Lucifer. Believers follow the Path of Adam(pbuh) and Eve(Hawa-Gbph) and rejectors/doubters follow the path of Lucifer, Nimrod, Pharaoh, Atheists, Agnostics, Polytheists, Pantheists, Animists and Pagans.

Respect is meant to met by respect. I respect what the jewish rabbi said, Judaism is also a monotheistic Abrahimic religion and a good jew may be forgiven or rewarded as told Quranic verse provided he do not worship any other God nor set partners beside the Almighty. Allahu ala aalamu, God knows best.

Islam doesn’t accept a notion that one nation can be chosen over the others. We don’t believe in any kind of supremacy based on blood and ancestry. In Islam, you can only become better than other through faith and piety, not through bloodline. Judaism is too ethnocentric, Islam is Universal and for everyone.
