Future trunks is one my fav character , his story was so heartbreaking and every time he worked hard to save his world which doesn't have goku and vegeta , may be he is the MC on his own time line .

@@adzenic don't think he has higher potential he had the benefit of his potential unlocked meaning he had almost all his power brought out to the surface I'd say they have the same potential. A better character I doubt it Trunks comes from a future where he basically has no one and nothing to train with Gohan in the present timeline has everything but isn't using what he has effectively but that's probably just bad writing , whereas Trunks got the only benefit of being beaten to a pulp by Vegeta and his sheer will alone as part of his "training" apart from that he basically had nothing else and about Gohan being smarter I'd say by the way Trunks fought he was making the most with what he had
even back in Z when Trunks and Vegeta went into the ROSAT for the first time Trunks didn't really know what training meant as up until that point he only had future Gohan to train him and even that training was him literally only sparring with him for a short while and of course Vegeta being Vegeta didn't really have a clue as to what training meant Either because he trained like an absolute Brute
and Over exerting himself and not bonding and Sparring with Trunks so Trunks again being the shy guy as he was only looked on from afar based of which he'd try replicating whatever Vegeta would do without really knowing wth he was doing and if he was even doing it the right way.
even if those two had just sparred Trunks would have grown at a much faster rate as Saiyans have the ability to grow stronger as the fight is prolonged combining that with the naturally high potential of the hybrid Saiyans he would have become much stronger which is why he was only just as strong as Vegeta in the Cell saga which is why Goku and Gohan spent more time Sparring which was a very efficient and more effective way of training owing to Goku's background of martial arts and Discipline under his many masters so he understood the real Mechanics of what it means to train unlike Vegeta who never really trained and lived by his brute strength alone
Conclusion: Gohan had training advantages right from the Cell saga in resources and people to get stronger whenever hw wanted to as well as having all his strength as a super saiyan and beyond being brought out to the surface hence being as easy to control as one's base form is so they have Equal potential

Most of these “Sagas” aren’t sagas. Imperfect Cell is part of the Cell Saga, not a saga in it’s own right. Same for Great Saiyaman’s episodes, it’s part of the Buu Saga. Same goes for Goten and Trunks in their tournament.
These are all called "Saga". The one you are talking about are called " Arc".Like Cell Arc or Buu Arc.Saga's are part of Arc's.
