    What a thought provoking video! I have never really thought about how the end papers add to the book... As a matter of fact, I can't tell you which of my books have beautiful end papers, but I am going to explore them! I really enjoy finding the beauty in unexpected places, so you have given me a challenge. Thanks for this lovely video!

    I LOVE THIS SERIES!!!!! and it is wonderful that you work in a bookshop so you can show us many great examples of these designs!! Unfortunately I don't love hardbacks, I don't like the feeling of them in the hands while you are reading, the fact that you can't fold them and that they are "squeaky". And it is a shame because some of these end papers are incredible! My hopes are for french flaps!

      +utterlyUncool Thanks! Glad you're enjoying them :) I agree that hardbacks can be a bit cumbersome, especially if you're carrying them around all day.

    How did you do a video on endpapers and inside cover designs without mentioning Persephone books? I can see Persephone books on your shelf! :p

      +Rebecca Carney Fancy that! I might do a whole video on Persephone :)

    How could I have misssssed this? Curses, TH-cam! :P
    I was hoping you'd do an endpaper video eventually and I knew you'd pick some gorgeous designs. I have so many that I would spam you if I picked my favourites but if you ever get a chance to see the Jane Austen: Cover to Cover book in person, check out the endpapers which I think are a really beautiful example of simplicity and elegance. Very plain but very profound! :)

      +literarydiversions Oh no! Are videos disappearing in subscription boxes again? Grrrr...
      On a more positive note, I need to get my hands on the Jane Austen cover book! :)

    Wonderful video, Holly! Such an interesting topic, but not often discussed on Booktube. I absolutely adore the presentation of The Vorrh. I still haven't read it (my tbr is out of control) but it's been sitting on my shelves for a while, just being a lovely object!

    Loved your video and enthusiasm! What do you call endpapers when they're in the back of the book?

    • @ViridianForests
      @ViridianForests 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think both sides might be called the same way, since they're at both ends of the paper, but I've seen instances of both sides having different illustrations, so I'm also curious hahah

    As a previous commentor mentioned, where is Persephone as the best example of endpapers in paperbacks?? And I spied them on the shelf behind you :-) I agree, I think Persephone books deserve their own video. I adore them and have 8 including Mansfield’s The Montana Stories, thanks to your recommendations :-) I’ve yet to read it though, so much to read, so little time. I think that encouraging publishers to produce beautiful books is the best thing to come out of e-books!

      +Eleni M Oooh I hope you like The Montana Stories! Persephone will get their own video. More than enough material there!

    I am really enjoying these videos! I like the Penguin thread editions with flap. At the back of the covers there is reverse embroidery inside, I really find those pretty - not really end papers I think, but they are beautiful nonetheless :)
