First off, this video was filmed in Dec 2019. I have decided, along with many others, to not fly at the present moment due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, especially after my last trip of mine that included numerous delayed & cancelled flights because of the virus’ impact on airlines (More info on my Community Page). But, no worries, I have luckily a huge backlog of videos (30+) waiting to be edited that I’ll keep uploading every week. They were filmed between November 2019 and March 2020, before COVID19 really got worse…so any concerns of “why I’m still flying” shouldn't be of issue as I am not currently flying and will not for at least the next 2 months. I hope you guys will understand why I’ve done this and will be OK with me uploading videos from a few months ago. Stay safe & healthy everyone!
Thank you for your fair and honest review of your travel experience. I am a United flight attendant also based in DC and have flown with these crewmembers for many years. You had an amazing crew and I am glad you enjoyed your flight!
wow. what a memory. initially saw the date published, not the date filmed. To see all those planes and all those people together in one place: pretty amazing.
When you put captions on the video makes it very interesting, like you’re exact movement and you’re saying what flights go where and how old the United airlines is . I’ve never been so interested .
Very nice, long relaxing trip that I enjoyed. Nice you got this one in before the pandemic went out of control as it has done now. We were supposed to travel to New York in June but that is out now...too risky. Do what you gotta do and don't fly for now. Stay safe!
OMG that s a very very long walk. Btw, nice trip report. Thanks for keeping us entertained with your trip report.especially during this epidemic covid-19, a hard time for aviation TH-camr including me. Stay safe and healthy:-)
Amazed you went from the D Gates - always think of them as the European gates. Great vid. You took off from the Polderbaan. Everyone knows it's located in Belgium....haha!
Great video man! Love that United is taking care of their older aircraft like the 767. The plane looked brand new on the inside. Hopefully that means we’ll see the mighty 767 the fleet for 5-10 more years. I think United is retrofitting the cockpits too. Hard to find something to replace it. Stay safe mate!
Thanks. This review was certainly thorough and I got the feel of the flight. I found your seating area very claustrophobic from which I suffer and must now fly first or business. I must say that I enjoyed being back in Dulles again especially the travelling lounges and even the ramp down to the parking area. Thanks for sharing.
I have flown two times on United947 to Amsterdam. The food was so good!! The Turkish cheese sandwich (pre landing snack) was so delicious!!! And I also leave schiphol at gate D10
I'm either the 8999th or 9000th viewer! Also, on takeoff, on behalf of Londoners, you can see why there's been less of a debate about adding more runways to Schiphol than to Heathrow. Schiphol is still largely surrounded by farmland (same with Paris Charles de Gaulle); Heathrow is largely hemmed in by suburbia.
Nice to see one of the recently reconfigured UA 767-300s. The aisle looks kind of narrow in economy. Polaris looks a little tight, but it looks better than the old business seats.
Thanks for the videos, however, please consider minimizing the zoomed shots especially during critical parts of the flight like landing. It's always great to see the whole picture. Thanks.
Thankyou for this video!! I took a 3 month leave of absence due to COVID-19. The route I work is United, Newark to India (Mumbai and Delhi). I miss going to work!! Stay Safe All!!
Great vid, good to see my airport (AMS). One thing is not correct, travel between schengen countries as Poland and Holland (vid 2:18) do have security checks but no passport check/boarden control. Security is something different then passport checks.
I'm well aware of when you filmed this but it still seems outdated--that rear galley scene with folks standing around, what no 6ft separation? :) The phrases 'social distancing' and 'self quarantine' were unheard of just a mere 4mos ago! You're an expert at defying gravity with that can of Coke! I wish more countries would adopt how Canada does it--you clear customs there and the flight is considered a domestic one upon arrival. How far do you live from IAD since you drove your car? Really weird to see all those IAD travelers so close to each other!
With excellent IFE, not-so-great legroom, outlets and wifi available, good FA service and edible food, I'd rate this flight as pretty good. That "meal" was unimpressive - pasta and sauce is kind of a cop-out - but I suppose it helped to fill the void. Navigating the airport was interesting, and if any viewer finds it boring they can always skip it.
Brilliant trip report! I think UA's service is great. I love their IFE, it offers many films to watch and quite responsive. However, I don't like the inflight meals, I think they're often quite unhealthy
It's an old plane which isn't in use anymore. They put it on the panorama terrace, so visitors can look and go into it. Check the following video if you like to see it more close up: th-cam.com/video/EM6YbgYG8cw/w-d-xo.html
Yeah, Aerotrain replaced most of the mobile lounges. They are still used for international arrivals (although if you are connecting on United there is a midfield CBP/TSA combined facility) and accessing the D gates though. I think they might be used to board remote gates as well, but that is rare from what I hear. The train is only setup for International Departures and Domestic flights- not like LHR where they have a second one for Intl arrivals.
Some airports have sectioned off areas of the terminal for US flights due to increased security screening protocols. Noticed this at FCO- they had a special check-in area walled off that led to a separate security room. All the gates for US flights were clumped together as well, in the Satellite terminal. My guess is that Schiphol does the same, even if it's not marked or visible.
I once had a horrible visit to Amsterdam, and the one bright spot was leaving aboard United 947 - the exact same flight you took. United is a big airline with its annoying quirks, but it has always been a solid choice for me; I do prefer it to some of the overrated Asian carriers, in fact.
I will not be flying in April and probably May as well (am still booked on a trip that'll probably be cancelled). But luckily I have 30+ videos to upload so will be plugging those out :)
Very good and tough question! I really had great experiences on both flights with the FAs and the service. Also it's probably not fair to compare a westbound flight vs eastbound, as they took place during complete opposite times of the day...so I'd probably say it was a tie
I can tell you the food up in the Polaris seats isn’t much better. At least you saved thousands of dollars in economy. Just buy 2 seats in back for more room.
I booked "Brussels Airlines" Feb 2019 San Diego To Paris for 600. It was actually all United Airlines 737 / 787 SAN-IAD-CDG. My 1st UA flight ever. No Delays or lost bag or bloody face incident lol. Service not bad but not great.

Great video :) I hope to make this flight in a couple of weeks, but than with a United Boeing 787-8 from AMS to IAD. First flight ever for me ;)
Hey the thejazzguy thanks for uploading this video. I really like this video. I have also seen it several times. Upload more of your TH-cam videos
Thank you for sharing that was awesome 🙂! Texting from Seattle WA. Washington state!
Excellent! Watched the whole thing! I live right near IAD so enjoyed this video even more! Nice to take a trip while quarantined!
A great vlog, thanks! That one flight attendant making the announcements seemed very unhappy.....your music was neat!
When you put captions on the video makes it very interesting, like you’re exact movement and you’re saying what flights go where and how old the United airlines is . I’ve never been so interested .

I really like your video. I have flown back and forth with my mom for years from Florida to Amsterdam through Dulles with United
Every time I watch you I feel like I’m on a plane I fly United all the time
You capture these so well !!
How I miss travel, with the way the world is right now It's going to be so long before things are back to 'normal'. Wonderful flight vlog as always!
Thanks mate! Yah it unfortunately won't be for quite a while until things go back to the way they were, if they ever go back...
Mehn this video was well edited and detailed, I really enjoyed it, it felt like I was on that trip, thanks a lot for taking us along👍🏿
Thanks a lot bro! Glad you enjoyed it :)
I've been waiting all week for this, it was really worth it!!
Thank you for a review of what appeared to be a wonderful flight. Quite impressed with your geographical knowledge. I enjoyed it very much.

man I love this channel. IDK what it is
well explained ,
Really enjoyed
Channel subscribed,
waiting for another FULL flight video as well
Thanks a lot mate!
Amazing view! Hope you enjoyed your flight!
Enjoyable video as always. I like watching daytime flights the best, but it’s a shame with all the clouds. Look forward to your next travel.
Great video man and well done! I just subscribed.
Thanks mate!
Awesome review, i really enjoy these in-depth reports. Congrats!! and my best wishes to the USA in these critical times
Thanks a lot! Hope things can get better here and everywhere quickly
Took the same flight in December 2018, it was a nice experience with United.
Awesome video man
I have flown two times on United947 to Amsterdam. The food was so good!! The Turkish cheese sandwich (pre landing snack) was so delicious!!! And I also leave schiphol at gate D10
I love ur videos
Very nice i didn't saw such a video
WOW I WORK AT DULLES AIRPORT FOR UNITED IM A SUPERVISOR THERE FOR RAMP
Cool shot of Van Buren, ME at 28:29!
At 14:08 take off, I’m usually asleep... LoL 😆 Flying relaxes me and I’m out for most of the flight😁
Great video! We will by flying with united in a few weeks. Do you often exprience turbulence on this route?

You're absolutely right...meant to put customs instead of security there :/
thejazzguy13 Aviation actually its imigration, customs is for goods/and money😁
I'm well aware of when you filmed this but it still seems outdated--that rear galley scene with folks standing around, what no 6ft separation? :) The phrases 'social distancing' and 'self quarantine' were unheard of just a mere 4mos ago! Back in 2005,I remember flying IAD-AMS via a United Airlines 767-300 er sans winglets.
That same bird took me from LIM to IAH on Wed 18 Dec 2020.
GREAT VIDEO
UA flight attendants are THE best 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I think you’re right the biggest problem was the plane. I flew their 787 and 737max and it was both perfect flights 👌 !
You will ride the plane-mate Mobile Lounge instead of the Aerotrain when you arrive Internationally, even from the C-gates.
Love the content! How many languages do guys speak?
Nice video.
Didn’t know you live around the area! 👍
Just got the united explorer card, even though no ones flying, as soon as corona has left us, I’d love to fly united Polaris first class to celebrate.
Let’s hope it doesn’t become seasonal like the average flu.
With excellent IFE, not-so-great legroom, outlets and wifi available, good FA service and edible food, I'd rate this flight as pretty good. Another great video as always! Could you please tell me the song at the end? I really enjoyed it. Be safe!!
Thanks man! Sure song is called Copycat :) And you as well!
Brilliant trip report! I think UA's service is great. I love their IFE, it offers many films to watch and quite responsive. However, I don't like the inflight meals, I think they're often quite unhealthy
wow this flight looks better than my lufthansa flight to toronto. nothing between the first meal and snack service before landing
3:31 how did the KLM plane come up in this right-top corner significantly above the ground?
It's an old plane which isn't in use anymore. They put it on the panorama terrace, so visitors can look and go into it.
Check the following video if you like to see it more close up: th-cam.com/video/EM6YbgYG8cw/w-d-xo.html
Which engine type does this plane have? PW4000 or CF6
It was a nice flight,,,,,,.....
I work at Dulles and right now, with Covid-19, it's totally empty and that cafe you see at the end is closed. Hopefully, this is over soon!
They don't offer buy on board on intl. flights, do they?
'full flight' and the video is 43 mins long? That's one hell of a tail wind!
So Aerotrain underground is the express way in Dulles Airport to travel between concourses?
Yeah, Aerotrain replaced most of the mobile lounges. They are still used for international arrivals (although if you are connecting on United there is a midfield CBP/TSA combined facility) and accessing the D gates though. I think they might be used to board remote gates as well, but that is rare from what I hear. Were is klm going to
I would like to know how could you travel during COVID-19 I’d flights have restricted
I saw seat 38L in the description and I read it as “three eight left”….. 😂😂😂😂
best airliner to usa from ams always
I never knew there was a wind farm out in the English Channel.
i was wow this plane is packed but i see it was filmed in december good it wasn't now
What had you to do with your passport?
Perfect!
Ayeee IAD is my hometown airport along with DCA and BWI!
When was this filmed? Cabin doesn’t look so empty to me...
What please is Aurora Sauce??
if this was posted in March why are there Christmas Decorations hanging in the baggage/customs area of IAD at 41:59.
My guess around December maybe he took this the coke can gave that away
do we have to pay for food , i saw in flight magazine ,when you were browsing ?
No that food is more for domestic flights...on European flights you get plenty for free
There are no ‘USA Gates’ at Schiphol.I assume you meant the Non-Schengen gates
Some airports have sectioned off areas of the terminal for US flights due to increased security screening protocols. Noticed this at FCO- they had a special check-in area walled off that led to a separate security room. All the gates for US flights were clumped together as well, in the Satellite terminal. the windows on your plane look just like those on the 777
Right before all hell broke loose.
Thejazzguy my name is raghunandan venkataraman. Tomorrow or next week please book a flight from Washington DC to India. Thank you for the cooperation
What are your plans for April 2020 as COVID-19 is around.
I will not be flying in April and probably May as well (am still booked on a trip that'll probably be cancelled). But luckily I have 30+ videos to upload so will be plugging those out :)
who had better service across the pond UA or BA
Very good and tough question! I really had great experiences on both flights with the FAs and the service. Also it's probably not fair to compare a westbound flight vs eastbound, as they took place during complete opposite times of the day...so I'd probably say it was a tie
Did you fly this route before the European travel ban?
Alexescalatorguy judging by the Christmas lights in the beginning I’d say so
He flew it in December
Were people giving you weird looks for filming?
O ya, I get weird looks all the time :D
I'm wondering the pure Irish butter was it green 😂
❤❤❤❤❤❤
@31:21 to 31:28) Was he pouring Coke into a goblet, and the goblet was seemingly not feeling up and then in the end it was completely empty 🤷♂️😂
that clip is reverserd ;)
BRO I WAS IN THAT PLANE TO FR
The music at the end was a bit cringe.
I took this flight lol 4 days ago
Damn
Wow now 11 months ago :D
