    Lovely video once again. Life is indeed cheap in Turkey, as well as that i didnt know that this country even stimulates vanlife which are 2 positive things compared to Greece. But to my experience the stories you are telling it completely is what i experience in Greece having had many presents including rings and bracelets by people who barely know us, and food in general in Greece have been truly wonderful in my many (30+) experiences over 38 years.
    Also the same with the Laiki open street markets (vegetables, fruits, textile, honey, etc) in every village and town. Because of that I always wondered why I never saw you eating at restaurants and the near endless wonderful foods that you could have eaten. But I guess im not aware of how on a tight budget you guys are even though in Greece you dont have to pay a lot of money at all to eat wonderful. It felt like a missed opportunity. I do agree that if you don't own your own garden, that fruit/vegetables can be costly depending where you buy although again on street markets it can be fairly cheap. The rest sounds pretty much the same to my ears between Greece/Turkey when i hear your stories of traveling and people, even though the lands in Greece have a significantly lower population density with sometimes having to drive for hours to see a person in many mountain and wild parts

    • @WildVikingTravels
      @WildVikingTravels  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hey.
      Thanks for a lovely comment. When it comes to Turkish and Greek people as an Outsider I would say that they are definitely brothers. Theyr cultures have mixed for thousands of years and they have so much in common except the religion.
      When in comes to Greece then the problem for us was that we were there in Corona times. So the restorants were closed and also locals kept more to themselves and this is probably the reason why our greek experience was a bit different. We still met many wonderful people over there and hopefully made some life long friends, but here in Turkey those interactions just happen more often.

    • @lachiere_sixx7735
      @lachiere_sixx7735 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WildVikingTravelsMakes sense. I havent been in Greece during corona times, but i know many Greek people through facebook and writing that became like family to me due to incredible experiences with them, who almost all had been inside homes the last months until maybe a month ago. It was around the time you both where traveling in already low populated areas around the Peloponnese, Central and north Greece, and ofcourse winter/low season. But that explains it

    • @WildVikingTravels
      @WildVikingTravels  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea that is probably it.
      Honesty some of our greek friends even told us that soon we have to come back. Since this time we had this amazing oppurtunity to see Greece without people and enjoy its wonderful nature in solitude. But they said that next time we have to come back to enjoy their culture with live music, food and of course the people 😉👌

      First no panic!!!
      And then try not to scare the animal. People are not food for them and they only attack in self defense. So if we stay calm we can just slowly back away 99 per cent of the time.
      And if things go bad, make a lot of noise and try to scare the animal to make them run.

    Wild camping IS actually prohibited in Turkey. But the security forces are mostly pretty chill about it. If they see you camping somewhere that is not a dedicated camping site they will probably approach you to have a talk. If they decide you seem like nice responsible people, they are likely to let you camp there for a night or two. They will probably give some warnings like not to light an open fire and not to litter or extend your stay. And they probably will request some id and contact info just in case and will be on their way.

    • @WildVikingTravels

    I am glad you are enjoying Turkey so much. It is truly a beautiful country.
    In the video I don't know where the water tap you were getting the water from is. Is it Greece or Turkey. I noticed that it was Arabic script.
    Greece was part of the Ottomans empire for centuries, and when I visited Rhodes I noticed in the Old Town there was water taps with Arabic script. This is becausev water is considered a blessed charitable gift. Many of these taps would have been made by the family of a deceased loved one. Everytime someone takes water it is like a prayer for the dead person.
    Take care. Enjoy your time in Turkey. Treat yourself to my favourite Gozleme.
    You can even get sweet Gozleme with Tahin and poppy seeds or honey and walnuts. Delicious.

    I knew you will like it here in Turkey when I first offered you to come here and now its great to see you here and actually love it. :)
    Sadly Turkey is not cheap for turkish people but its cheap for sure since Turkish lira keeps losing its worth. :(
    Not budgeting on turkish food is on point. You should search what is famous in each city cause usually every single city is known by a food. You can find so many in Turkey. Now you are visiting mostly the touristic sites of Turkey. But in north you can see the best of nature with wild animals, in east you can meet people who never seen a sea in their life and you can witness desert-like natures in middle anatolia region.
    Hot weather is just starting. Now its silence before the storm :D

    1. Until 1st of Jul we had partial lock down that didn't apply to the tourists, including the local tourists that bought tickets for "destinations". So anyone travelling was excluded.

    During lockdowns Turkish people could still go out if they were working in an allowed business. So it was literally like if you work in an essential business, bringing foreign currency into the country like tourists you are free to go out otherwise you will sit home and reduce covid spread. It wasn't perfect nor fair but far better than no lockdowns and it somehow balanced economic damage and covid spread..
    About Snickers etc they aren't copies rather 100% original products but ofc they are produced in Turkey so they cost far less than produced in Europe ones. I think most of chocolate companies have factories in Turkey because they couldn't just export European ones as some of them might have pork fat and also producing in Turkey is far cheaper. They are exported into Europe as well and sold with massive profit but Mars, Nestle etc doing that so Turkey doesn't really earn much from it.

    We've seen how easy it is to give and how good it is to receive. I loved this sentence of yours. A perfect summary of all your experiences. This experience and what you deduce from it are the basis of the true Qur'anic teaching, and of course the Turkish tradition. Look what the Qur'an says about this: Those who believe, spend in the way of Allah in abundance and in adversity. When they are angry, they swallow their anger and forgive people's faults. Allah loves those who do well. Kindness is not turning your faces east or west. true kindness; to give to relatives, orphans, the poor, the strangers on the way, and those who ask, in order to please Allah from the goods he loves. Thus God explains His messages to you so that you may ponder and understand.

    "Kindness without agenda" .....what a wonderful interpretation of what humanity should be and act. In a world of greed and profit at the core of powerful nations selling everything from weapons to financial products that are not worth the paper they are written on Turkey has got a soul it seems. I have traveled from New Zealand a country with a leader Jacinda Arden who cares that transcends to its people then to Ireland the same. I am about to travel to Denmark in my new to me R.V. with my mothers ashes to lay her to rest finally. It will be interesting going thru the low countries to get there and what l find. Then l'm free at last to travel South maybe to Turkey and enjoy real people, real food and real kindness without agenda. Thanks so much for your sharing your journey which is a highlite of my week and a joy. Yes you have inspired me 🙏

    You have summarized everything very well, but there is a mistake somewhere. What is done to tourists is not due to superiority or royalty, but to the special hospitality of our country. It will be more sincere if you feel like a person from us rather than a king. They just want you to feel comfortable removing your shyness without making you feel like a stranger. Calling it tourist king seems a bit unfair. As Turkish, we like to take you among us and make you comfortable so that you don't feel bad. We love sincerity, the words spoken in the foreign press are completely caused by the evil inside them. We are never a country to be bad and hostile. Our strong do their best to support the weak, and you don't have to be Turkish for that. I sincerely wanted to say that people are friendly and have a good time.

    8 years ago most Greece prices were lower than Turkey's. I know it because I am from Alaçatı. then many Turkish tourists used to prefer Greece to visit as it was cheaper than Turkey. in 2010 A Swedish guy was complaining as he said he couldnt afford to stay in Alaçatı as it was very expensive. Alaçatı is still expensive but not for Euro anymore due to the crysis.
    this is because of the crysis. in 2016 1Euro =lower than 3 liras and my salary was almost 1400 Euros but today 1 Euro is 10 Liras so my salary can mostly get to 900- 1 thousand Euros . there is a big crysis also due to the pandemics besides the governments situations. in 2012 I lived in Poland for 6 months and the salaries of Turkey was almost double more than of Polish but today it is almost the opposite. 1P = 1.5 T salaries.
    you may know we have many refugees and we have spent over 50 billion dolars for them so far but EU never kept the promises. they havent paid what they gave word of.
    BTW this was the hottest summer in Turkey ever recorded. be careful!

    • @WildVikingTravels

      Hey Ross. Gald that you like the videos.
      I think it comes town to the fact if you like heat or more cool climate and if you would like to live in turkey full time or only in certain months. And also if you want a place by the sea or in the mountains.
      It is hard to say which is the best place to live since Turkey is so diverse. But if you narrow down the things you would like to have in your home than the decision becomes easier.
