Hi...what an incredible car it makes me remember my rs mexico which was t plate too being registered on first of august 78. The build code was UU which is June 78.Vehicle check says sorn now & is stating 1993 as the engine capacity so a guess owner has dropped in the bigger pinto.....keep up the phenominal work dude....
Hi Sam, I do realise the frustrations of trying to get accurate information of how these cars were turned out of the factory when new, but I would not flippantly waste your valuable time if I had reasonable doubt about the make of distributor that was likely to have been fitted to this vehicle. It's well over 40 years ago and as I said, I was 99% sure. It's really difficult to be 100% sure, as there is very little evidence these days, either on paper or there are very few experienced people left that can 100% confirm this. I was there in the trade when these cars were released and I can never remember seeing a Mk2 RS 2000 or Mexico with a Motorcraft distributor fitted, but I think most British built Mk 1's were fitted with them. As confirmed by the Haynes manual and Ford workshop manual (RS supplement), both will fit and work. My own experience is that every Mk2 RS2000/Mexico I saw had a Bosch distributor fitted. I've had two absolutely original RS2000's, a 1978 which was built exactly the same time as this Mexico, and a late 1980, where both had the Bosch distributor originally fitted. I have always been puzzled by the listing of the Motorcraft dizzy and have put it down to a number of possible reasons. One reason might be that the Bosch distributor was known to be of better quality, so was more reliable and suitable for a car that might be used for competition use. I have seen many a Motorcraft distributor where the shaft has excessively worn out in it, but never on a Bosch. Another possible reason why the Motorcraft dizzy is listed is that it might have been used on hurried out, pre production and launch models which did vary in a number of details, according to what was available, I expect. The most likely reason I could think of, is that these cars being built in Saarlouis would be supplied with German built components as against the english Motorcraft alternative, a practice I have seen many times according to where the car was built.
I value all the info I’m given so please don’t think for a minute it’s not appreciated,it’s just frustrating when there’s so much conflicting opinions. Sadly putting these videos and pictures out on social media platforms always leaves you open to peoples opinion and sadly i can’t please everyone and sadly everyone has a different opinion on what is correct. I agree it makes sense Sri have a Bosch distributor and coil being a German built car, even the ends off the plug leads are the same orange/brown colour as the coil top and brown dizzy cap so the Bosch coil/dizzy setup will be staying.
@@SCClassics2022 No worries, it is frustrating. You're putting so much time and energy into getting this job accurate and I'm keen to help. Enthusiastic people can be convinced beyond belief though. I've seen some that have been very confident about something when I know for definite that they have been totally wrong. It's easy to make a mistake though considering that over nearly 50 years, the parts will have been changed so much on these cars and the owners have changed too. Many parts will have been changed for what has been readily available at that time. Therefore without any proof, It's difficult to know what is original and what's not. One last thing, I do hope you get the grip on petrol cap horizontal. Is it fastened properly?......otherwise undo 3 screws in the neck, and turn around one hole. Good luck.
@@levelcrossing150the fuel cap will be fixed,it’s just fitted into the quarter panel,I’m yet to fit the fuel tank and correct the filler neck so the fuel cap sits correctly,it bugs me too but I know it’s gonna be removed when I fit the tank
Sorry billywhizz98 but that info isn’t correct, the hole I’m pointing too is for the fuel tank breather on a mk2 escort, the fog light bracket mounts behind the bumper on the small raised rectangular area with the three dimples pressed into it. There is a concave hole but that is right next to the side bumper bolt on the rear quarter panel, the hole I’m referring to in the video is 100% for the fuel tank breather
You’ve even got Yasmin really interested in your updates sammy and she generally hates my TH-cam watches 🤣🤣 I wasn’t allowed to watch your video until she was there 🤣🤣🤣. Very best of luck, I really hope you meet the deadline after all your serious hard work
🤣🤣I’m glad yasmin is enjoying the updates, going off TH-cam analytics my content doesn’t really attract many female viewers so I’ll take that as a win haha. Will you an yasmin be at the lakes this weekend?
I'm pretty sure a lad from Newbury owned that around 1985/86. It was a very nice one and he possibly bought it from Mike Young's garage. He chopped it in for an orange Mexico Mark 1.
I am in contact with one of the previous owners,I think he owned it in 1988 but he’s never mentioned a mk1 escort so he possibly owned it later down the line
Spot on I worked in Fords Halewood plant but escorts where manufactured in Halewood saarlouis Genk Cork Ireland and Australia
