Ok one last thing. I think there was way more material left on the editing room floor. I would happily watch a 30+ minutes episode. Full of common car shop mishaps, swearing, shop floor accidents etc. This is such a new perspective DRIVE offers us. Just keep at it and don't worry about the videos being longer. GET YOUR SLEEVES DIRTY, WE DON'T NEED EVERYTHING SHOT IN SUPER FULL HD SHARPnCRISPY WITH A STEADY HAND. WE WANT THE DIRTY GRITTY SHOTS TOO.
This is honest a very well done series. Ryan is not only a nerd in his true element, but he is a very entertaining and comfortable narrator/host. I think the best part about this series though, is that Ryan is given the creative freedom to do much of the producing, filming, and also hosting himself. His skills in all three regards are very high, and I sincerely hope you continue your work Ryan! Good on ya /Drive, new subscriber here :)
FINALLY, a show with a car that is within a normal budget! Curious to see how heavy they go into the mods, and if they surpass what they spent on the car on mods.
Loving this series! I've been daily driving (abusing) a 1991 325i and it's become like a child to me. Also Ryan's a great presenter. Enjoyed his last series on rallying.
I like how removing the sound deadening tar is totally downplayed. It's the worst part of stripping a vintage BMW even with dry ice, right up there with sunroofs. An air chisel is almost necessary.
Small wire from the battery is a dedicated circuit with a fusible link for the DME. Not sure why they did it that way instead of grabbing power from the engine bay positive terminal.
Amazing work, especially the safety cage, that thing is like a tank now. Do you guys also reinforce the floor at the pedals, so the legs don't get hurt by the pedals in a crash?
Thanks for going rallye right off the bat after the initial shakedown haha I knew you were going to shave 3 seconds off his time instantly that wasn't going to be any surprise haha but anyway keep em comin need some sort of rallye to keep me held over until my life comes back on its born a car for now keep telling the guys at drive that more people wanna see you and to fund more projects and vids then show them my single comment! Haha I'll watch as long as you post!
I have a feeling seeing the E30 at Broken motor sports and the rallye build it might be making an appearance in the other series haha It be nice to see how it does next to the subies!!
I would thank you if you gave me the name of the song Its obviously easier to use shazam, prior to posting a comment, waiting for someone to read it and help me out So what makes you think I have not tried it first?
The cars are very rare. I wanted a E30 like my older brother 4 so long but the smarter choice was a e36 323i in original condition. You can be lucky an find a rotten one but even those know that the interest in a real car with such a superb engine and this huge pile of class will spent some green at it ;) All the hype about real old cars! We're all in to it.
Nice job Ryan. I had problems with limited space fitting race seats in my E30 M3. Wasn't helped by my generous proportion, otherwise knows as fat ass! Nice job with cage. Was planning to include link in my next feature in Performance BMW Magazine if that's ok?
That's not original e30 wiring. e30 just has one wire from the battery in the back to the front and then split everything up. My guess this is an early e30 how had the battery in the front orginal and some along it's life decided to move it to the trunk
Iceeeen 6 cyl. Models have the battery in the back, 4 cyl have them in the front. In my '85 325e it is in the back but there is a free space in the front with a loose hanging cable. It is just prepared for mounting in the front i think.
Er1323 Nope they don't. Owned 13 so think I would know. 323i never had t in the back, nor did 320i. 325i got it in the back when the facelift came in late 87
4cyl cars, cabrios, tourings, all had the battery up front on that tray 6cyl coupe/sedan/M3 had the battery in the trunk tray (usually) Weight distribution, bro. Also, two wires from the battery. Small wire with fusible link for the DME, big wire for everything else. I don't believe that you owned 13 e30s, yet don't know either of these things.
well apperently the us modelld differ then. 323i 1983 2dopr up front. 320i 85 2 door at the front. same goes with the 316, 318, 318i, 318is. and so on Only e30 with it in the back was the 1988 325i mtech II. and it was on singel wire to the front then everything was split up. Even a friends 325i 1987 pre facelift had it in the front.
If it was shitty Roadkill, we'd lift the thing and put it on truck tires!.... oh wait... Honestly though, all car content is going to resemble others somehow. But I think you'll see a push in a different direction in with more episodes.
That's not what I was trying to say. I was calling my version of Roadkill, 'Shitty Roadkill', cause the person above was commenting how this was a knock-off.
lol, Matt totally friggin lied about your car. he says on national television that he bought it for $1,000.00 and put $1,500.00 into it. Why would you lie about something so unimportant?
I think that was just a mistake of numbers... and the fact that someone writes /DRIVE on NBC. So Matt wasn't lying to lie, he was just told that. The actual price for the car was $2000 plus $500 for some extra parts I bought during the purchase. And I think someone just gave him the wrong breakdown of information because it still ads up to $2500.
That car could have seen 5 more years on the road with that money for roll cage. Now it will be junked after less than one years when these guys are done with it. That engine and rest of the chassis parts won't last under their abuse.
Yeah it's hard to do voiceover. It takes a lot of time to listen to yourself and learn to talk into a mic effectively enough that it sounds authentic. it's a talent I don't have but I'm working on. Those radio hosts in the world have a talent that often goes unrecognized. If you watch some early My Life as a Rallyist episodes from like 2014 though, you'll see I've come a long way.
I like Ryan as a presenter, he's not shouty and dramatic, just honest and the details very refreshing.
Appreciate it!
And he can slap a wheel around pretty good! :) I think he's great! :D
Agreed. I like the grit and grime aspect of this. Whenever I work on my bikes I get covered with dust, oil etc. Nice to see this not fake reality. (:
+
Totally, I'd like to see Ryan more often on Drive. Nice work Ryan.
Ryan is a seriously good presenter. And the man can hoon!! There are great things ahead on his road
Thanks for the support! Hoping to keep making content somehow/someway.
this guy is my hero. his passion and dedication is unmatched.
Ok one last thing. I think there was way more material left on the editing room floor. I would happily watch a 30+ minutes episode. cha ching, cha ching, the sound of my car appreciating with every e30 build video on youtube.
clearly passionate about your work man ! awesome. I would ditch cable for shows like this.
Never knew an E30 would look so good without the inner front lights. It gives it the kind of vibe that I love from the 2002 and the E21.
That look in his eyes while imagining his car as a full blown Spec B rally car! Enough said
Wish I could find a good E30 in Illinois for 2k
There are a couple on craigslist that look like they're in decent shape.
Lol, Right? They are all pretty rotten in the upper midwest. Same here in MN.
If you're willing to drive to Detroit I found an 86 for 1500
if your looking on the Chicago Craigslist there is one for 2k but it looks super beat up
Come to the South you will find BMWs for $1500 rust free.
This is honest a very well done series. Ryan is not only a nerd in his true element, but he is a very entertaining and comfortable narrator/host. Thanks man! I'm really pleased and lucky to have the freedom /DRIVE has given me. I'm doing everything I can to keep getting content out there!
FINALLY, a show with a car that is within a normal budget! Curious to see how heavy they go into the mods, and if they surpass what they spent on the car on mods.
really good series ryan! keep it up ma dude
I think this is the start of the second wave of great content from /DRIVE after a long hiatus. Good luck with your BMW!
Nice to see a basic, no frills build with likewise presenting.
Loving this series! I've been daily driving (abusing) a 1991 325i and it's become like a child to me. Also Ryan's a great presenter. Enjoyed his last series on rallying.
This shit right here is exactly why I subscribe to /DRIVE! And kudos to Ryan for getting himself on this channel.
I like how removing the sound deadening tar is totally downplayed. It's the worst part of stripping a vintage BMW even with dry ice, right up there with sunroofs. An air chisel is almost necessary.
Awesome series and presenter, can't wait to see how the car holds up throughout the episodes.
this is the GT86 you need, old school, pure driving machine.
7:42 love them Starlets!!!!!
Awesome job Ryan. I am enjoying this series, can't wait for the next episode!
best YT Channel ever
I love this show and enjoy where this is heading.
Very cool! This looks like a project I would never want to do after watching something this, but I would then do it anyways because car project.
Dude, a Bentley manual has 30 pages of interior instructions. Would have helped a lot. But you eventually got the job done
that cage is sick!
Thanks man! All the comments and love certainly help. I'm excited for everyone to see what's lined up!
is there another source to watch the nbc sports colorado?, i live in brazil and can't watch it.
really good series i need more episodes lol
wow the cage has a high quality. look at the welds. very nice
Justin is top notch!
You guys are a hoot! Thanks!
😎🇩🇪🚙
We love classic cars so much that we beat the shit out of them until there's nothing left...
step one: put new seats in
step two: sit in them while being as dirty as possible
I have a feeling seeing the E30 at Broken motor sports and the rallye build it might be making an appearance in the other series haha It be nice to see how it does next to the subies!!
What is the name of the song at the end?
Thank you
Alberto Laita - Vanilla Ice - Havin' a Roni.
Hahaha, yeah something like that.
There's this great app called Shazam. Thank me later.
I would thank you if you gave me the name of the song
Its obviously easier to use shazam, prior to posting a comment, waiting for someone to read it and help me out
So what makes you think I have not tried it first?
yeah i tried google sound searching it too, no luck. It might be an original just for this episode 🤷🏼♂️
What's the link to the rock climbing E30 video
fabts4 yes this is exactly what I’ve been looking for and can’t find it. It’s literally no where
In Germany a e30 with a inline 6 ist Hard to find under 10k
dazzz4real really? I would have thought they would be cheaper in Germany. is there a tax on old cars or something? what about e36's?
The cars are very rare. I wanted a E30 like my older brother 4 so long but the smarter choice was a e36 323i in original condition.
You can be lucky an find a rotten one but even those know that the interest in a real car with such a superb engine and this huge pile of class will spent some green at it ;)
All the hype about real old cars! We're all in to it.
dazzz4real the 320 are a lot but for good 325i and 325e you need to search hard indeed :)
This is great stuff
Yt recommended me this after 5 years
Good host, good show, keep it up!
Eric from That 70s show finally got something more exciting than the Vista Cruiser
Subscribed. Good stuff
nice soundtrack!
Where can I watch the full Colorado episode? Thanks!
Nice job Ryan. I had problems with limited space fitting race seats in my E30 M3. Wasn't helped by my generous proportion, otherwise knows as fat ass! Nice job with cage. Was planning to include link in my next feature in Performance BMW Magazine if that's ok?
Sure. Yeah E30's are smaller than they look... Not easy to fit in, but way easier than a 240sx... my head hits the roof in that thing.
is there a way to watch that colorado episode from outside the states?
That's not original e30 wiring. e30 just has one wire from the battery in the back to the front and then split everything up. My guess this is an early e30 how had the battery in the front orginal and some along it's life decided to move it to the trunk

Iceeeen all 325e, ix and some 325i have them in the back. Has to do with some options i think.
4cyl cars, cabrios, tourings, all had the battery up front on that tray
6cyl coupe/sedan/M3 had the battery in the trunk tray (usually)
Weight distribution, bro.
Also, two wires from the battery. Small wire with fusible link for the DME, big wire for everything else.
I don't believe that you owned 13 e30s, yet don't know either of these things.

most interesting thing on your channel, keep it low budget though...
is there a link to the vid of the Beemer on the off road trail?
How about that Cosworth Escort in the background?!
love this
DH Skips Same
ahh miss my old e30 must get a e30 soon again:)!!a wagon had been so awesome:)!!
Why did you sell it?
I noticed the dash and interior are really mint.. while mine is bad and I'm actually trying to keep it nice
Yeah it wasn't too bad actually... for what the outside of the car looked like.
Ryan Symancek didn't see any rust under tge carpet either
What's up with that Forester @2:00? Are you turning that into an XTi?
Need update video of Chris Harris's e30 m3 rally car
HAHA Back when cars had METAL FUEL TANKS! Honest engineering.
@ 9:31 "Tomorrow morning, FRIDAY am"
pls can I get the parts that you stripped out of the e30? the rug and other stuffs I wwant to use it for my build
Should be titled "A tramp goes rallying"!
What's the song a the end??
Did we do any engine work before thrashing the car in a rally? RIP another m20 I will mourn for you
"Intro" from 1:08 is fkin epic.
am i the only one who doesn't care about it going off-road?
What Chump race are you going to?
“Tomorrow morning, Friday am”
if you aint using the front bumper anymore ill take it ! id really like it :D
that last quote sound suspicously like another internet motoringh show where they work on junk
What were you usin' for a camera car at the track?
For this shoot: Jaguar F-type (long story). But we usually use a Dodge Grand Caravan... or whatever else is around.
1.7 million subs has this only has 350 views?!?!?!?
It was literally posted 9 minutes before you commented. It'll have thousands by tomorrow
Oh yeah, my bad
My favorite car nothing top it in in the end:)
chapeau! Hands dirty. Not a princess. Cool.
Those clamp on style terminals are a no no.
funny you show a 2002 car to repair the electrical instead of a e30.
you crazzzyy
oh shit what's that song on the intro? 1:08 help plss :D
I always suspected Farrah was made of garbage.
Didnt even measure the seat space lol
Is that Chris Harris @ 6:11 ?!
crazzyy cool
how's that almond butter? ;)
I Wana buy one of these now lol
next do a 1979 z28 camaro
bro, don't throw shit away man, fix it.. I mean, the interior parts were pretty nice for their age.. sell them or something to someone who needs it!
"stripped, caged and transformed into a budget rally car"
Exactly how I like my women!
you guys should wear a hans device with that riduculous helmet
Is this the guy who took a $400 BMW and won a mexican rally against manufacturer sponsored teams?
nope
Every time I see someone ruin one for a Lemons rally or find a clean, rust free example and make it into a Colorado rock crawler
A safe 240 ROFL
Could not watch the Colorado episode...
WHOA SHIT ANYONE SEE THE S1 AT 1:57
builds e30 BMW rally car
prodrive want idea back
Sounds like a knock off roadkill to me
If it was shitty Roadkill, we'd lift the thing and put it on truck tires!.... oh wait... Honestly though, all car content is going to resemble others somehow. But I think you'll see a push in a different direction in with more episodes.
Ryan Symancek what are you planning to do with it in the future?

Ryan Symancek out of curiousity, did you replace the rear main seal while replacing the clutch?
Yup
your killing me using an e30 :'( use a e36! no one would care then
almost first
first
