I'm still on my watercolor galaxy kick, so I thought it would be fun to make a galaxy card for Father's Day but use less expensive supplies and not that many supplies, either. :) I created a simple heart shaped galaxy by first sketching a heart lightly with a pencil. Then I painted the galaxy using colors straight from the Crayola watercolor set. The stars were created by splattering on a bit of white gouache. You could also use some acrylic paint or any other opaque white medium.
Tip: Be sure to use only a small amount of water when mixing your paint in order to make it more saturated. The main complain I hear about inexpensive watercolor sets like this is that the colors aren't very strong. You can get stronger color by using less water.

I love the simple, whimsical look and this card is right up my alley. I love making simple things--not having a desire to complicate card making. I also like to use masking fluid for white areas if I know where they will be, although its more time consuming to use that. I like how this looks so much. Thanks for sharing!!

Kristina, this was an excellent video tutorial. We have a young grandson (almost 4 yrs old) who loves to paint with his Crayola paints. He loves using the black paint and unfortunately dips it in the pots of other colors. I've been slowly teaching him to first 'swirl' his brush, then tap, tap, tap AND then put his brush in the color. Also teaching him to extend his color by applying more water to his strokes on the paper. We use to get a big muddy puddle - now we are seeing him use more thought - of course he still likes that black paint *haha* This little heart card might be a good teaching tool for him and a wonderful Father's Day card as well. Thank you again for the great tutorial.

Some went outside the heart, but since the paper was white, they didn't show. :)

Another way to "splatter (?)" paint onto something is using a nail brush dipped in some water! I have done three projects using a nail brush (pulling my thumb from the top to the bottom of the brush) and it works out great! this method covers a wide array of area (even though it is a bit messy)!

I actually have an alternative for the white stars. Instead if using the paint brush to do it. Alternatively you could use an unused toothbrush to do so. Just a suggestion ;)
