  • What's This Video About?
This is my review of the Grant Stone Diesel Boot in Saddle Tan Veg. It's a combination service boot/dress boot/work boot that starts off quite orange but settles into warm honey. The Badalassi Carlo tannery leather from Italy will be no stranger to patina as it is worn.

    Who Am I?
I am a Management Consultant in real life but in my Bootlosophy channel, I make videos about boots and all things boot related. This channel posts reviews of boots, unboxing of new boots, and follow up reviews, and in doing so, may explore the philosophy of the brands from time to time!
I have owned boots for decades, but to be honest I have owned them as functional pieces of footwear. It wasn't until early 2020 when COVID struck that I started online shopping boots to an obsessive degree. I love the aesthetic of boots and I love finding out more about how they are made. I now own an insane number of boots, and one day I may sell some of them (just not right now).

Grant Stone really nails that classic plain toe boot look. Just wish they made more in this leather! While all of the leather they use is nice, most of them just don’t tickle my fancy. Also love the leather sole, highly underrated

Try Grant Stone Diesel Cognac Ostrich. These are fantastic boots. Incredibly well made, gorgeous and UNIQUE. I have them and I couldn't be more impressed.
I think Thursday boots are getting a bit of a bad wrap in this video, because I think, just like with Grant Stone, being a direct to consumer brand allows them to provide very nice quality boots at a much cheaper price than they would be able to sell them at if they sold them in a brick and mortar store. In Thursday's case, it's at entry level pricing. Doesn't really mean the quality is entry level. Yes, Grant Stone is higher quality, but not so much higher as to make the comparison irrelevant.

Excellent review, as always. Insightful, calming and very pleasant to watch.
I own 4 pairs of Grant Stones and love them all but the Diesel in this stunning leather, and on leather soles, is by far my favourite. I have the Diesel on both rubber and leather soles and it's amazing how much more comfortable leather soles are. They mold to you feet more and just feel a lot better (if usage/terrain allows).
Periodic care for the leather soles with something like Saphir Sole Guard extends their lifespan significantly.

Great review. I appreciate your management expertise in the evaluation. I spent I suppose a couple thousand dollars (US) during the pandemic in shoes and boots. A couple Thursdays (my feet don't really fit the last, but if I couldn't wear the President, I'm doing ok with a TTS Diplomat), a couple Wolverine BLVDs (plain toe service boot and a Chelsea that do fit my feet), a Rancourt moc boot, an RM Williams gardener comfort Chelsea that I should have gone up 1/5 beyond TTS) and a half-off Alden plain toe on the Barrie last. I also bought a 1/2 off Red Wing shoe (8109), and a couple of Clarks (camp moc and a cheaper casual shoe to add to my suede desert boots and a wedge sole redo of a leather desert shoe). They're all good, and in rotation, may be all the boots I need for the rest of my life. But it's fun to sigh at these higher end products!

I tend to be a naturalist and understated in my taste. So this boot grabs my attention. Like the below comment, I wish they would offer a couple other colors. I've never worn this saddle tan color before so I'm leery of how I'd wear it. My preferences have always been chocolate brown, oxblood and black. This would surely be a stretch...

I love all my boots but I’m still on the fence about leather soles. They seem to be more comfortable but I don’t like how slippery they are.

Great review! Just started my boot collection, it’s looking though I’m going to buy a few more Grant Stones before I try other brands, and it’s for the reasons you stated. Great quality, great looks, great price! My first pair was the Diesel boot in Dune. If you were me, would you get the diesel in black or the Veg Tan? I want a leather sole but I feel like the veg tan would look too close to the dune in color.

    • @Bootlosophy

I'm tempted to get rid of them and just go back to ny alden indys which everyone can attest that they are very comfortable and require no break in period.
