Hi everyone, to be clear here, I was asked by Martin to react to this song, and so there has been no invasion of the privacy of Rens family.
Martin asked me to react to 'Unravelling' because we've similar psychological interests, and although I've no idea about the nature of their relationship, it didnt feel like this request came from a place of wanting to 'cash in'.
From my perspective, I react to anything that people ask me to because there is likely to be something interesting there, and in this case, I was really happy to support a smaller channel.

I truly enjoyed this reaction and believe it was put together with tact and full regard for Ren's privacy which by no means was violated AT ANY POINT. The fact that Mr Gill has his own PUBLIC channel makes it fair game FOR ANYONE TO VIEW and/or analyze.
WTBS some of Ren's fans have appointed themselves gatekeepers when the man himself is fully capable of safeguarding any personal business he wishes to keep from the public. I'm a loyal fan of Ren and have been for several years. I watched your rection to Hi Ren just as soon as it hit my feed suggestions and have followed you ever since. I find your analyses interesting, and they always leave me pondering the topics which are brought up. Thank you for your continued work.

Ren has said his dad gave him a guitar when he was 6 & he took that guitar everywhere. That’s how he started playing guitar. His parents took him to music festivals as well.
There’s a video Ren’s dad made with Ren in it, it’s on TH-cam on Martins channel if I remember right.

Thank you. I knew Rens dad was a musician, but I never went to check it out until today. His voice is soothing, and his words are beautiful. I'm fascinated by how people become who they are, and I am so happy to see some of where Ren pulled from to become who he is. Rens sister is also a remarkable human being. ❤️

Dr Nic, you have expressed very well the way people emeshed together can lose perspective, our "identity" can wrapped up so much in it. If it ends or changes, I liken it to a shattering feeling at first, and you have a overwhelming feeling of loss. You have to put things back together over time. Illness & bereavement can do that too. Forgiveness is a big thing for me too, for yourself and others. It's perfectly natural to feel that way, it feels very personal , but also it's also universal. Talking to others or communicating this in art, can be an uncomfortable experience but it can also be very liberating and cathartic. It's interesting that the Ren and Co busking band were called The Big Push.

That made me feel so sad. It makes me want to know more. Was this a song to Ren? I'm going to go back and just listen and see what I get listening again. I know as a parent, I feel at times that I didn't maybe take my children's dreams as seriously as I should have and pushed them more into what I felt were more lucrative careers. I wonder if Mr. Gill did this as well? So many questions, sorry. I did enjoy the song though and Hi Ren by Ren, hit me like a tidal wave. I suffer from a rare autoimmune disease and have shizoaffective disorder and GAD so Hi Ren really helped me express what I was feeling and hearing and seeing to my Psychologist. Anyway, thanks for sharing this.

I think this is a really good expression/expansion of the Rose Coloured Glasses effect and a reminder that the effect affects the unseen person as well as the blinded.

Oh for Pete’s sake the Ren gatekeepers and zealots are becoming so exhausting!!
I increasingly despair at the rates of stupidity and one-eyed arrogance in humanity in general but I feel that the REN-evades are becoming a perfect microcosm of it all.
The absolutely mind blowing thing is that these Ren zealots are generally behaving in a way that I feel is totally opposite to what I believe are Ren’s own views. All in the name of “protecting” him. Ren does not need to be protected by a single person unless perhaps he is unconscious but even then he would most likely have one of his inner circle with him.
He is perfectly capable of looking after himself and has said so himself!!
As for your review, and of your friend in the bts, from what I could hear you both hit the nail on the head. It would have been good if Martin had made it a lyric video as I had a lot of trouble hearing all of the words. The overall vibe of the song to me was very reminiscent of the music that my parents listened to that was commonly known as the protest era.
As to the fools that unsubscribed good riddance. They obviously went off half cocked because they could not have listened to your intro. Personally I would not want people who have such big mouths attached to such small minds following me.

We tell ourselves stories all the time, in an attempt to understand the world. But we also tell ourselves the stories about us. To unravel your true self to yourself is not en easy thing to do either...

Martin freely puts it out there that he has been inspired by his own son creatively as have so many others. Whatever negatives may exist in the past, that is a positive. All human beings are heavily influenced by what they are exposed to in formative years, both positively and negatively and the outcome of that simply is what it is. How what is learned translates into what follows is a product of the choices made by every individual. To the listener, the personal context of this song is perhaps not the relevant point to be explored - rather the ideas it portrays - which I think you picked up on.

Please do maybe a couple reactions of Martin Gill...specifically perhaps his...Lyke Wake dirge video 4:30 mins (Temps Clar rehearsal), and/or 'Last Nightj' and/or 'Whistleblow/break the Silence' My take is, even if Ren outshines his father with his great talents...There is still a debt of gratitude one can have toward one's parents or 'the parents' who brought forth and probably encouraged Ren to explore and develop his great talents...and I'm sure Ren got at least a portion of his talents from his father who also appears to love music and creativity, even though he seems to have a more calm and lowkey style...

I haven't watched this video, and I won't. Ren asked for privacy, specifically for his family members. He asked that no one stalks them via their social media or otherwise. Most fans already know about his family of origin, and respect his request. Unsubscribe.

@@Snarky_TartI think you are jumping to conclusions here because Ren's dad actually commented on one of Nic's reaction videos, I remember seeing his comments at the time and wanted him to react to this song. I know we want to protect Ren's privacy but we can sometimes be over protective it's not like Nic went digging around to find Ren's dad he made himself known, and personally I quite liked hearing this song, I think Martin has a very soothing voice, I hope you're not upset at my comment but it's just a different perspective. ❤

@Snarky_Tart I'm sorry you think that's what was going on here. The point of any thumbnail or title is to drive views, and the inclusion of Rens name would likely mean more views driven towards Martins channel (to be clear, I make no money from YT, in fact, it costs me money to have a channel and so the amount of views this video would have as a result of including Rens name would make no financial difference to me).
I also had no moral worries about including Rens name when seeing the title and thumbnail for the first time (I don't create them) but I can certainly see your point and wouldn't want to cause upset. I've messaged my video editor to make the changes.

I unsubscribed. Didn't like that you drag Ren into a simple song from his dad. Ren's life is a roller-coaster right now. And the last thing he needs now is this besides you talking about stuff before checking it out on what's going on today. With Ren's illness and health issues. I

I was into Ren's music until he went full right wing propagandist. He did an interview with Knox Hill where Ren came out as a capitalist. It was weird because it seemed put on or scripted (like he had to do it). He recently did a collaboration with one of the most polarizing and disgusting, what I call MAGA rappers in the industry and has started putting conspiracy themes into his lyrics.. He also did a collaboration with Know Hill about a fentanyl which really annoyed me because I lost my brother to that stuff and i blame capitalism which Ren and Knox have made it clear they support. To make it worse they pushed the Big Pharma conspiracy. I feel like Ren has been compromised recently and is going down a dark path. I hope someone can reach him before it's too late. I think Ren is unravelling.

You make some valid points, I try to look a bit beyond that. It's extremely difficult if you have experienced that. Ren does have some awareness of the contradictions, in the lyrics of Money Game 3, he pretty much grappling with the idea of being part of the system and against it at the same time, and the way you can be torn. I think ultimately he has good intentions and comes back to base , he's has injected some self reflection into his collaborations and looking beyond that. Sometimes I think that it's a competition thing and Ren has something they don't have and he goes along with it , in awe of his talent and he admires in return. I agree , its a fine line. Especially when egos explode.

Just because someone doesn’t have the same beliefs as you doesn’t mean they’re inherently “going down a dark path”. That’s extremely egotistical to believe. Furthermore, American politics have no concern to Ren as he ISN’T American. As for being capitalist, I reckon you have an issue with the rest of the hundreds of millions of people currently living within a capitalist system? Or is it just Ren you hold to such high standards? Have you even watched the Money Game trifecta? He’s very much against capitalist GREED. Be kind. It’s not that difficult.

@@veagraceYour points resonant with me . Ren doesn’t romanticize capitalism- he is very aware of the pitfalls especially Greed. The collab with the Maga singer - was that Webby ?? Ren mentioned several times that he respects this performers work but doesn’t agree with his viewpoints . Doing a collaboration with someone whose viewpoints you dont share is a way of breaking through this hyper polarization that is so prevalent . Having a conversation with some one from the ‘other side ‘ and talking about things you have in common.
