They're having trouble coping with the fact one of their favorite youtubers is a creep. It sucks, I know, I loved watching his videos. But there comes a time where you have to accept he's not who you thought he was and call him out for it.

i did the math on this. it happened at vidcon (july 23-25, 2015); at which point tana was FRESHLY 17. as in, she’d only been 17 for a MONTH. not that it really matters, but people talk about this as if she was nearly 18. when factually, she was closer to 16 than 18. if vidcon had been just a month earlier, he would’ve slept with her ON THE DAY OF HER 17TH BIRTHDAY.
HUGE EDIT: sorry ya’ll, it was playlist live where this happened. (which was FEBRUARY 6-8, 2015, in orlando. which … actually makes it worse. because tana wouldn’t have been 17. she would’ve been SIXTEEN, turning 17 that june.)
and in the chance that this happened in 2016, not 2015 at playlist live, then yes; tana would have been 17. (playlist live of 2016 *in orlando* april 22-24.)
either way-very gross of cody to do, and he should be held accountable and AT THE LEAST acknowledge it.
ANOTHER EDIT: tana has since confirmed that she and cody began having conversations when she was 16, going on 17. and she did state that they slept together multiple times when she was a minor. as dangerous as it can be to speculate, i will be very honest and say this: i would be incredibly unsurprised if cody had slept with tana when she was 16. which is PURE SPECULATION on my part. and even if he didn’t, he still preyed on her when she was 16, only to deliberately begin a sexual relationship with her shortly into her turning 17. literally every update we get on this situation makes my skin crawl, it’s so deplorable.

it makes me feel ill the amount of people who play into this but still think they can be counted as a person who's supportive to survivors/victims of sexual crimes. lots of people who are harmed or taken advantage of in this manner are not necessarily likeable people, or maybe they've transitioned between being a better or worse person through their life. that dosen't change that what happened to them was wrong and disgusting, and those responsible need to be held accountable. it's like saying you have no sympathy that a serial killer is out there murdering homeless ppl with drug problems en masse because you think drug addicts are irresponsible people and being homeless is their fault. first of all you're fucked up for that just like you're fucked up for acting like it's not a big deal what happened to her, but also it doesn't matter! you should be able to step back and say, this isn't right and something should be done about it, that nobody deserves to be in such a terrible situation. take a good fucking look at yourself and maybe think before you speak and type. you don't get to cherry pick who you want to see as a victim and also claim you support those of us who've been wronged like that. here's your personal letter from a childhood sexual abuse victim, we don't want your sympathy if you're just going to play around with who you deem worthy and those you'd like to toss to the side.

I'm 37 and when I was in highschool it was the norm for girls 16-17 to date college guys and even older. And I mean this was normalized to the point parents allowed it. I had a friend who started dating a guy when she was 13 and he was 19, by the time she was 16 he was living in her parents basement in her house. Another friend was 16 and her bf was 20. Another 17 and 26. My BFF was 16-17 dating 21+. I remember another friend was 16 and dating a licensed plumber in his mid to late 20s, and he picked her up from school every day in his work van. One day we had a project to work on after school so I was going to her house. Her bf picked us up and immediately passed the bowl around. I wonder how many of us were just too stoned or depressed to notice how messed up everything was. It breaks my heart for teens today because they seem to grow up even faster. Out of just these few situations I named here, 2 of these girls ended up falling out with me because their boyfriends said they spent too much time with me and I was probably trying to hook up with them. After years of platonic friendship. Years later both of them apologized to me after realizing the situation. The girl who was 13 when he was 19... When she turned 21 her bf was 27 she said she literally felt her brain develop in that moment when she saw him bringing out her cake, and she just became disgusted by him. She said she felt physically ill being around him. After a few weeks she told him to gtfo. They were still living with her parents btw!!

It is horrible what it does to your whole mentality, because in any other situation upon hearing the numbers you'd go 'omg, what the fudge', but when it's you the grooming has already messed you up to the point you can't even look at the situation with logic. It gives me relief to hear the people who are supporting Tana through this. No matter how she might have acted when she was hurting and trying to live through this sort of garbage and more, no one deserves to see anyone defend the actions of their abusers, especially someone who has done something so heinous to them.

I am always reminded of something my Uncle told me when I was a young girl asking him how to know if someone was lying. My Uncle was a homicide detective for 34 years. He always said, 90 percent of the time, the innocent people won’t be able to shut up. They’ll get very defensive and angry. And even if the guilty person doesn’t shut up you can always tell the difference, they’ll either put on the charm and be cool and collected or they’ll act irrational. The guilty people go silent and just stare into space. And boy did that advice help a lot when I was dealing with some toxic, narcissistic people! I remembered that throughout life and whenever I see accusations like this come out and the person just stays silent when they should want to defend themselves doesn’t make it look good.

I'm 19 legally in the USA I'm an adult mentally I am not and when I was 17 I definitely wasn't..
Also even if they were in a state like mine where age of consent is 16 that doesn't mean you can date/sleep with anyone you want, it's there to protect those withing four years your senior so 16-20, 17-21 because that's not weird that's someone you probably went to school with. It DOESN'T protect people over 21 who sleep with minors from legal issues, why? A lot of times we don’t realize how sinister and gross it is until we’re the same age as the men who were trying to fuck us. Tana just turned 26, she’s right at the age to re-evaluate that experience and start to understand the whole situation in a way she couldn’t see before. The public response is so telling of the reality of how a lot of men see the age of consent. At least we know who to keep away from teenagers? Idk.

Literal prepubescent children who are abused by pedophiles or peers also struggle with the notion that because they didn't fight hard enough, they were too scared to say no, that secretly deep down they think it was their fault. This mindset is prevalent no matter what age you were at when someone took advantage of you. I was abused at (around) 6 by an adolescent sibling and then went onto inappropriate online sexual interactions with adult men between the ages of like 12-14. I still feel it creep onto me in my dark hours where all I can tell myself is that it was my fault, that obviously those men were wrong but I'm still undeserving of sympathy or love because I played into it, I wanted to feel validated, like I was worth someone's time or interest. The more people treat you like a piece of meat, the more you start to feel it and you go through this whole depersonalization. the comments from his stans on d’angelo’s video were so vile … i have a feeling like he will be fine regardless of what’s to come? nobody takes victims srsly anyway, so “unlikeable” ones like tana don’t stand a chance. i hope that feeling can be proven wrong …

As a former Cody fan since I heard the news a couple weeks ago, it baffles me because Cody likes to pose as the all around great guy, who understands the concept of misogyny, homophobia and racism are bad things and even in his commentary videos, he denounces any of it. But can’t even come forward to at least acknowledge what he did with Tana? I would ask does he not realize the misogyny of staying silent while his victim is being vilified, but I think he does. And this “one of the good guys” persona he presents himself as on the internet is fake or he at least sees it as “well, I’m not the person who did bad things that I used to be, so I don’t have to talk about it because I put it in the past”. No, Cody. You haven’t changed at all. You just know how to lie so much that you convince yourself in the process.

I watched Kody a lot but after finding this out I can’t look at him the damn same. My MOM was 15 when my 24 y/o father got her pregnant. What pisses me off is victims like this don’t see it as a big deal bc my mom scolds me ( I am 28) whenever I call my dad for what he is a P-0. She says it’s not that big a deal because she was okay with it and I’m like YOU WERE A DAMN CHILD STOP THAT. She doesn’t tolerate age gaps like those though, like se never even allowed me a bf older than me for even 2 year difference but with her she sees it as nothing. Genuinely upsets me bc she has the same mindset of “I’ve gone through worse”. True, you have, but that does not diminish the issue.

charlie made a response vid where he stated that he completely agrees that big channels like his are responsible to cover this if they do content on similar situations. he said it took him this long because when he was going to film, whatever he was going to base his vid on (post, clip, something, i don't remember what he said) that it was deleted and he thought maybe the allegations were debunked but he takes complete accountability for not doing further research that would allow him to see that the posts were being deleted or censored by mods, not bc they weren't true

This speaks to the need for a “perfect victim” for them to believe. The way so many women have been brutalized and merdered (I know I spelled it wrong) because they weren’t an “important enough” victim for others just breaks my heart. True crime history shows us this exactly. No, Tana’s life was not taken but her humanity sure was the moment all of these monsters came out to say “mmm… I don’t believe you because of who you are.”

I'm so annoyed that TH-camrs and people on twitter keep saying "D'angelo exposed Cody". NO THEY DIDN'T. Tana spoke about it already. No one, and I meant no one, spoke about. All I could remember was two drama channels and one guy covering it two weeks ago. As someone who used to like Cody's videos, I fully expected everyone to go rabid over this. This title and type of headline is frustrating me because it seems like Tana wasn't taken seriously or isn't credible for people to talk about it.

Part of what makes me so disgusted is that (and I could be misremembering) I recall a video by CodyKo probably around the time he did this to Tana where he was calling out a channel for using SA as a punchline. I was all "oh, this channel is safe and isn't gonna be ridiculously problematic." What a manipulative, hypocritical prick. Basically Bo Burnham's character in Promising Young Woman

I've been following the Cody topic like crazy now, but there's one reason no one's pointed out directly yet. If his silence continues, it would also show how terrible of a husband/ father he is. He can't even defend for the sake of them, at least. If the allegations can't teach Cody directly, they'll definitely reach indirectly and hurt his family. Can they handle the weight of his alleged crimes instead of the perpetrator?

Okay where is Brittany broski in all of this, she’s all about supporting women so she says good friends with Cody and denied going on tanas podcast bc it’d piss off her fans. She has collabs with several problematic people but refuses to with tana who she’s supposedly cool with. Internalized misogyny, like I know this doesn’t involve her but yo if that’s your friend why aren’t you saying anything
