I was a white punk rocker in 1979 (16 years old) but thanks to the rock against racism movement my horizons where broadened and I got to see some great reggae acts on the same stages and this music shaped my future attitudes and life thanks for posting.
I didnt grow up in a multicultural community but I know I got a lift to school with a west indian family when we coudnt afford a car my dad also taught me to respect gay people which can be difficult for the afro carribean community I LOVE MY DAD for that respect to everyone he taughtme.Peace.
Goodness, after all these long years, this song is awakening nuff nostalgia of those "Frontline" days...I have been violating the replay button for the past 2 weeks.....Bwoy, I'm so bad!
Me and my mate used to love this series. Fantastic tv. We were gutted the BBC pulled it as it was getting too popular and they were teriffied that they were creating a black Coronation Street, tragic. Loved Norman Beaton and Sharkie and Walter !!!
Goodness me! I think the director had some new toys up in the gallery and was a bit keen to try them out all at once! Matumbi - brilliant! A superb performance of a great song that served as the theme for the BBC's Empire Road in 1978 and 79. Loved that series. Some great Hammond on this track. Classic.
Its so unfortunate that the 'black' programmes are never repeated or brought back even despite public demand. Choice FM have been campaigning for ages to bring the real Mc Coy back and the BBC still wont show it... Why is Only Fools and Horses can be shown all day every day on UK Gold, but Empire Road can't be shown!!? P.S Before you all start jumping up and down there is nothing wrong with Only Fools and Horses but ALL DAY, EVERY DAY? come on...!
Very rare!! I belive there was a TV series called Empire Road which was filmed in Birmingham around 1980. This song was used as the theme tune. or am I imagning it all ?? Can anyone confirm ?

My time, my town, my people!
What a magical performance of a beautiful song!
Bless them. Thanks Matumbi.
The show was filmed in Westbourne Road Handsworth. Great area. some parts of Handsworth were gritty but friends were made. Miss it

True. I can't remember where it was filmed, but it was definitley real - 1978-79.
Wasn't there a TV series called 'Empire Road' ? I think it aired briefly in the late 70s, starring Norman Beaton playing a grocery store owner.
