Two Insinkerator "pro" tips: 1) If you spent the time to clock the drain ring so it looks right in the sink, did you spend the time to apply the serial number label? The model/serial label on these is split in two parts. They understand that the machine may not be installed with it oriented facing forward, so they expect you to rip off half of the label and apply it to the front after it's mounted. Years later, when the customer is calling for warranty support, they'll thank you for not having to use a mirror to find the serial number! 2) The mounting lock ring clicks when it is fully installed! It takes a lot of force to get it to click, so I've seen a lot of these improperly mounted. Anyway, the lock ring has loop holes in it that fit a 1/4" rod perfectly. That's the diameter of a normal #2 phillips driver. Stick your screwdriver into the loop, and you've got a perfect handle to turn the lock ring home.
@@fixerupperer The wrench fits well too, and the angle on it can help in tight places. Just don't be one of those guys who thinks you need gigantic channellocks for the lock ring. ;)
Yeah, but what's the warranty like? He's gonna wear out and start leaking at some point. Also, do we call you for warranty service if he begins acting up?
I came home from work the other day to a busted garbage disposal and a sink full of water. I did not plan on replacing the disposal even though it was loud and annoying. I purchased this very model that you are showing and I am SO happy with it. So quiet, and I didn't realize it turned with a counter-rotation until your video, missed that feature. A 9-year warranty is a great selling feature not just as a homeowner but I a plumber was coming to fix this for me and explained the warranty benefit that would easily upsell me.
I replaced the one that was in our home when we moved in to the 3/4 horsepower insinkerator. Can’t beat these disposals and ease of installation. Money well spent.
Just moved into our new house and I noticed the Insinkerator disposal and, not knowing how good it is, I gave it a try and thought "damn this seems pretty solid". Little did I know, this video taught me the old owners had great taste in equipment.
This is great our disposal gave out like a week ago and we need a replacement bad! Thing has been leaking and i cant stand having a sink that does not work. Was gonna just get what i can afford but if this solves my problems and with the know how thanks to this video how good it is, I rather aim for this to stop any future problems and have it be reliable and easy. Thanks!
I installed the pneumatic switch in an old house I lived it, that did not not previously have a disposal. Depending on your water quality, after time, you may have to disassemble and clean the plunger/ button if it gets wet. I had my disposal stick in the on position because of build up under the button. Cleaned it and worked fine again. Just an FYI.
Roger..Great video!! My father in-law dropped a small screw in garbage disposal..I could not get it out..I had to replace Disposal. Keep up the good work!!
i live in texas and when the power was out and we where doing dishes i put a hex bit in my cordless and used that to run the disposal when we needed it lol
I have the same disposal installed in my parent's house. The problem with the quietness of the motor is my parents due to their age can't hear it running :). so, I have caught them letting it run for hours :).
NO apartment complex disposals have a hex wrench in the kitchen any more. In my experience, the maintenance people will have an 18" piece of broom or plunger handle on the cart. This is the standard tool to get the disposal going again. Guy I knew used it so often that it had a rut around it exactly at the depth of the impeller. Worst for jamming a disposal in the Upper Midwest: watermelon seeds. They bind up between the lugs and the screen. I suppose bones can be worse, but you can actually SEE them looking down into the chamber.
There are times I do a tear out and the customer wants to save their old disposal...I can understand if it's new (actually I saw one on a recent job that was kinda new still) but like, please, don't save a disposal if you don't know how old it is. Cannot stress this enough.
I have the Excel 2. It's stainless steel color. That thing is a monster. I put everything in there that you can't in others(spaghetti, celery, bones, etc). I just bought a new sink and did a remodel so I have a 1 drain sink now. Everything goes through it. Idk if that's better or worse. But, I clean it a often by taking the rubber out of the drain and sometime using bashing soda and vinegar. Never smells. It was close to$300 if I remember correctly. It's about 15 years old. But it was well worth it!
My plunger doesn’t have a wood handle. I only use the Korky beehive plunger, and it has a plastic T handle. Best plunger ever. I’ve never had the disposal clog anyway. We have a single sink, so all the water and soap runs through it. Keeps it clean and loose.
Totally have used something to spin the disposable to unjam it. This was while I lived at a cheap apartment with a I think 1/4hp motor. Next time I will use a wood handle of some sort next time im in this situation.
Believe it or not me and my grandpa did some welding work in one of the Ferguson facilities in south florida. Nice company and usually have anything plumbing in stock.
Back in 2013 my parents re did there kitchen I was the lead maintenance guy for a company so I got them one of these for dealer price and they just sold the house and it was still there and going strong! I will so buy one of these guys when I get my own place.
Homeowner/resident fix it here, until I located my disposer's de-jam tool I would use the largest Allen wrench that would fit in the sot and gain purchase to de-jam mine.
That pro 750 is my go to when a customer needs a new disposal. I hate the badger. I only install them of the customer is insisting on a “cheaper option”
I know this is 2 years old, but what’s your opinion of the Insinkerator Evolution Excel? The 750 is 3/4 hp, is there an advantage to upgrade to the 1 hp or is that overkill?
Evolution excel is a significantly better unit. It’s the only unit on the residential market that still has a Capacitor start motor, and a under-cutting grind stage. Do you need the extra performance? I don’t know… As someone who works with appliances I know most most designs since the 1970s or so. Own a fair bit of them as well. Very high end residential units essentially priced the shelves out of the market. Features like cast components have been replaced with stamped steel, and grind designs were simplified…
As a plumber for over 20 years, the best thing I ever did was get rid of the disposal in my house. I use two basket strainers with removable baskets that won't let anything bigger then a large grain of sand through. Lift it out and dump it in the trash when needed. Silent. No jams. No losing small objects. Easy to clean and doesn't get stinky. No mateinance. Cheap! I'll never go back.
I just swapped a insinkerator 3/4 hp with the same make and model. The old one seized up. Man did the new one hum. It was an elderly friend of mine. I only charged 40 bucks and some pizza. Literally just got back and turned on ur channel and ur talking about the exact thing. What are the odds
My garbage disposal like to jam on me if I rarely use it since I use paper plates but again I live in an apartment it must be a cheap one. I’m thinking about upgrading or leave it alone
I installed one and purposely NEVER use it. Unless you want to be pumping-out your septic on a regular basis according to how much you use your disposal. When the house is sold, people are always looking for a disposal. That is the reason I have one.
@@MaMa-qh4dy Dunno what youre talking about. I use my garbage disposal just fine for about a decade without issues with my septic system. Bet your septic system is old? So maybe youre a little over doing it a bit.
