My recommendation would be to read My Cousin Rachel. I loved it.
Seconded! Especially if you really like Rebecca. These two are the most similar of her works in my opinion. 😊
Third-ed!!
I imagined a Fleabag-esque shot of: "Ooooh, Sexy French Pirate." Sounds like a good book, Claudia!
Great review Claudia. Hungry hill is yet again very different from some of the novels you mentioned and I enjoyed it very much, however my absolute favourite Du Maurier is My Cousin Rachel.
I was surprised how much I enjoyed Frenchman's Creek. (There is a movie version with Tara Fitzgerald here on YT that was a pretty good adaptation.) I'm not surprised how many people have already suggested My Cousin Rachel. A lot of her other books are short story collections, and I found most of those to be too bleak to really enjoy.
This is unbelievable as I just finished watching a documentary on Daphne.
I’m exited to be back to your you tube channel.
Hello from Chicago
Please read The House on the Strand. It’s my favourite.
Jamaica Inn is my favourite of du Maurier's novels, very closely followed by The House on the Strand and The Loving Spirit 😊
I think I will try Frenchman’s Creek. I got it from the library.
The King’s General was my second Daphne Du Maurier novel after reading My Cousin Rachel.
I recently listened to Frenchman's Creek as an audio book and really enjoyed it. Thank you for your review. I have read and am tempted to again read My Cousin Rachel and would recommend it and would be interested in you reviewing it. I also saw the film of this book with Rachel Weisz who was excellent in the part of Rachel.
I first read this when I lived near Frenchman's Creek. In Cornwall. Such a lovely spot on the river Helford. Xxx. I have only read the same books as you. Must read more xxx❤❤
Wondering if she went with him at the end?
Loved this book!!
This sounds such a smart review and I am appreciative and definitely enticed to give sexy French pirate a read. I love Rebecca. I'm going to reread My Cousin Rachel, it is also very good. Jamaican Inn I thought was utterly horrid 😮, and I felt hesitant to try again, but the way you speak of FC & so many aspects ---it sounds very appealing.
Thanks!
I've just read the book based on your recommendation and I had a marvellous time 😊
I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed it! Thank you for letting me know, this made my day ❤️
It also checks the box of a woman, a brooding house as it’s own character, and a sort of ethereal dream state where paintings seem to stare at you and sleepwalking is a possibility.
I've going to try to find the translated version of it. Never heard about this book till now. Thank-you for the recomendation.
