- While preparing to photograph a waterfall in Oregon, Michael Sanchez snapped a photo of a small bird he spotted. He had no idea he captured rare images of a blue rock thrush-which is native to Europe and Asia-and never-before-seen in the U.S. David Muir reports.

This guy is so excited. 100% in his element.
You can tell that man is very grateful.
What an awesome dude and some great news. Something happy in the news 😊
He seems like he would be the best teacher
I JUST SEEN THE SAME KIND OF BIRD IN GRESHAM OREGON ABOUT THREE DAYS AGO, STOPPED TO ADMIRE AND THANK THE LORD FOR A BEAUTIFUL SIGHT.
Love Oregon coast
i read this story 3 days ago on google news. Kudos for amateur photographer
This guy, and his enthusiasm for the beauty this bird brings, is exactly what I needed today! Thank you, sir, for bringing a bit of beauty and happiness to my day 💙
What a beautiful bird!
I used to work with the guy that was an avid birdwatcher. He was strange to say the least. It took me years to realize the important work that he was doing. These people are doing the work in the background, and discovering things just like this story. Yes, birdwatching is a very important thing in our world. I know many people will not understand his excitement.
And some of us do understand, maybe in part being deeply grateful for this beautiful creature and its news story, which isn't political.
His enthusiasm is so pure 😭🫶🏻🥹
What a cool teacher!
Absolutely stunning!
He just makes me smile, his enthusiasm. I bet he is a fun teacher!
Awww he is so wholesome! I hope is always happy!💚
I hope he/she's not lonely.💙

@@spaomalleyThe bird. If it's the only one there. Harmless empathy, try it.
@@spaomalleyyou are devoid of emotions
@@rhyfedduRelax. He was the person you're replying to most likely thought OP was talking about the photographer.
Well, the fact that the bird is here means there must be others.
I’m pretty sure this is my niece’s band teacher 😂
I was hanging out with one of these birds everyday in Tacoma in 2022 I believe.. it made sounds that I definitely never heard before which drew me in .. following me around so I stopped and started talking to it.. and it would hangout and listen with a unique noise.. due to these behaviors and this news story.. believe now was someone released a pet bird..
Probably a Varied Thrush
It’s beautiful but scary. How did the bird end up all the way over here and why?
What a cute person!!!
Love the look of joy on photographer.
The bird is cute too.
Actually it's beautiful!
Hey Oregonian here ❤❤❤
Me too. I'm in the southern willamette Valley.
Beautiful 🐦
Looks like what in MI we call an Indigo Blue. Gorgeous!
This! This is the kind of news I can get excited about.
Also, I'm from Oregon. But still, this is so cool!
I get so excited to meet someone so excited about their craft 🥰
Beautiful photo !
Same for the first photo of Hug Point.
Pretty colors❤❤🎉
That's gotta be the prettiest little buddy...
That is a beautiful bird
And the newscaster knows, and values this exciting find!
He thanks the schoolteacher for bringing "a lot of beauty" to our state and country.
I so appreciate the bird, the schoolteacher and the newscaster's pleasure.
And David, (whoever that is.)
Beautiful bird
I thought non-native species were bad
predators and quick-reproducing prey are really bad, birds tend to live for quite a while and only have a few offspring per year, small numbers of non-native birds aren't generally bad. how this one got to the americas is the better question.
A single organism that has strayed outside its normal range (known as a vagrant) is unlikely to have ecological impact. Contrast this with when humans introduce a breeding population that out-competes natives species.
Invasive species are bad. I wouldn't put too much credo in these other responses.
Invasive species are bad. When just one gets off course in migration (not a group of birds establishing a population) it's totally harmless. I don't know why the news is freaking out about this because birds get off course in migration all the time
This was my first thought. As a naturalist my instinct is to, uh, "relocate" the non-native critter.
Welcome beautiful Bird ❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉 The Teacher Photographer Michael Sanchez has the most awesome curly hair❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉
And the appreciative newscaster has the most beautiful smile. Wow. A bird- loving newsguy. If only I were a bit (a lot) yOuNgEr
Poor baby is long way from home.
What about the Panda bears, lions and tigers not native to Oregon? Anyone could have brought that bird there and took a photo. What kind of news story is this⁉️ We need full disclosure now. 🤷🏼♂️🤨
@@FeverDreamRemix Go tell that to the californians leaving their dogs in the forest.
So many domesticated dogs seen with wolves because of california's ways.
@@FeverDreamRemix🤡
@@Leboobs22"So many?" Spotted by whom? Wolves don't often consciously allow themselves to be seen. I don't doubt that despicable people abandon their dogs, but that happens ALL OVER...and too often. To state that it happens exclusively in CA (where? It's a big state) shows your ignorance & bad attitude towards "the Californians."
@@FeverDreamRemix it's a migratory bird native to the opposite side of the Pacific. This kind of thing happens all the time - 1 bird in a million will get off course in migration and end up somewhere else
This teacher made a major contribution to science.
Wonder of wonder miracle of miracles. Thank you Michael for being so alert!
Instead of the death penalty they should make people watch this video
These are common here on Penang Island, Malaysia. 🐦

This season is realy a new era and very interisting, there is a lot to be discovered as time goes by.Thanks for shearing ,this is a very beautiful bird
It was a pet bird that escaped. The owner is afraid to come forward because they think they will get in trouble.
I love 💕 this bird 🐦 thanks for the update
That is one beautiful bird.
WOW!! So beautiful! It makes me happy just looking at it!
Thank you young man, your
excitement is now also ours!
Could it have been caught in
an incredible wind storm? 🐦
Beautiful bird!
As a Blue Rock Thursh myself this is my cousin Jordan he was named after Michael Jordan. His dad loves Jordan because he flies like a bird
I was at Sauvie Island (also in Oregon) yesterday, and I’m damn near positive I captured a video of a bird that looks exactly like that. Fully blue on top/wings, brown belly.
Maybe some seamen brought it here as a stowaway and released it once here.
The ocean, ocean beaches, and towns on the west coast are west of Portland? WOW your news writers are geniuses!!!
Great job! Love the happiness and excitement
He rode the winds from the Pacific currents!
Wow beautiful.
With those Enormous Ships today, even a family of Elephants can sneak in😂
Blue t shirts and chestnut shorts selling like hotcakes in Juarez!
Dont know anything about birds but what i know is blue birds are unique
As the mother nature goes through her cycles and climates change, we will see more of these types of things. The animals are already adjusting as they are more finely attuned than the human.
You mean migration? Possibly...but unfortunately what is really happening is that populations of many animals (mammals, marine creatures, birds, insects) have been harmed, decimated, or driven extinct due to their habitat being destroyed or drastically reduced because of climate change, pollution (poison, debris), human encroachment, shipping activities, and deliberate, massive destruction of their environments. If humankind doesn't change, there will be more of this tragedy for our animal friends.
"OmG cLiMAte CHaNge!"
Good stuff my uncle got me into bird watching it’s actually really nice.
The bird was clearly blown in from a storm across the ocean.
Good for you!
Beautiful bird❤
I didn't know how much I missed happy news like this lol
Wow! How beautiful!
I go to that beach all the time .. my favorite area. I’ll be looking for this bird :)
We the people of Oregon would like to extend a warm welcome to this beautiful borb! :D
I'm not sure what What kind of bird it is, But it sure is beautiful. What awesome color!
Oh good we still have actual teachers that inspire curiosity
Excuse me? That’s a Bird of Color thank you
How awesome
❤😊Good For You!!! I Love ur Joy🎉❤😊
I saw this in Okinawa and south Japan.
Gorgeous
Very Beautiful!
Beautiful 😊
Our cavalier gave birth to a dog that looks like is literally 3 times bigger and clearly a different breed, so to me it’s the randomness of life that smacks science in the face all the time, just like this bird
Is your point religious? Or about random joyful excitement?
Sounds like someone took a wrong turn well before they even got to Albuquerque...
Wow! 🐦
He's giving double rainbow energy.
Male Painted Bunting would be easily confuesd, but not likely on a beach.
I think those are quite common around the Mediterranean. I assume this one came from much more eastern Eurasia. Still, long ways from home
Saw these in Contra Costa County.
I have seen this bird on the Charleston coast several times
Painted bunting?
They're so excited but ask yourself this why is that bird here
Lovely!!
How very cool!
Blud is Cookie Monster ice cream color way
Global temperature changes. That Blue Rock Thrush on an Oregon beach might also be a canary in a coalmine.
Are there any European or Asian birdwatchers that were able to verify it? It's a very clear image!
It probably hitched w ride on a ship or there was a nest on a ship and thats how it got here❤
Who cares? There is more important things that need to be addressed. A bird is not going to help the US.
Welcome new bird! 🙋🏻♀️
He is now one of the Birding Association’s elite employees 😂😂😂
Wait if it’s not supposed to be here then why are we excited
I say the same about blk ppl
I say the same about white people. Ayyy jk@@mitchellvictor2421
Natives said the same thing looking at the mayflower
Y’all goin off 🤣
@@mitchellvictor2421big talk from a female dog
Nobody’s seen one cause none of us in Oregon can go the the beach without our dog 😂. Scares them off
That’s crazy, it’s a bird.
Someone had to have brought it over a long ways to fly from Asia to here don’t ya think? It must of hitched a ride on a cargo ship.
And that explains migratory birds and pigeons travelling between continents, how?
Who else is digging this story about something exciting in nature - a break from political nonsense and sensationalism?
