Thanks for watching and your comments. This Hood is super rare and shares its fit with split window VW's. They have a totally different support system. the prop rod is super rare because it has 5 holes 4 holes for the hood brackets and a 5th hole for the longer prop rod just like split window vws. Early 55. is different than even late 55 on lots of parts. this will be an interesting build. Stay tuned and subscribe if you have not already.
Amazing how you see the bends needed to form a patch. I've learned so much watching your videos. Thanks to you, my bus may actually be on the road again someday.
Brilliant. Really looking forward to watching you bring this back to the land of the living. Love your work. You’re a total inspiration to those of us that are inept 😬
Mike seams like a no nonsense kind of guy. I cant wait to see the bucket bus in person. This channel deserves tons and ton more viewers and subs. From an amazing single cab build to a super cool oval. Come on guys. Let's like share and subscribe. Let's get Mike the views he deserves.
Glad to see another being rescued. Still looking forward to the truck getting its lift back on it. How you accomplish so much while working a full time job is beyond me. Thanks for the video
i can always depend on the quality work and explanation on your builds thank you Mike waiting for more content also please putting this in a youtube playlist for future reference
2:08/25:59 Nice to see the rubber stoppers are in somewhat in good shape. Those are place before the clips to hold the molding. Prevents rust from the metal. People forget to replace those after painting the VW Classic cars.
You are impressive with your metal work ,hands down, enjoy watching every minor step in your quest for producing such parts.I loved the old school way of you breaking down the tires, long time since I seen anyone do that.keep doing what your doing 😎😎😎👍👍👍
Master back at it again!! Always wanted to find a decent guide to repairing these bonnets as they’re always gone in the same place! Congrats on the 30k subs. Well deserved! Ben 🇬🇧
I wish someone made them would be much easier. on these early hoods. plus you could take a later hood and turn it into an early. When they are missing.
Hey Mike, Great metalwork again looking forward to the next one with the 1955 Oval Window VW BUG.greetings and watch the Summer heat man, It`s the same for me too hot in my Tent to work.42 degrees under the roof, see you at the next vid Mike. Greetings, Hubertus.🇳🇴👍🏻🥵
Congratulations on getting the '55! Been super busy with work travel, and now a little time to see your progress 👍. Great work as always! Thank You for the video!
This is the most selfish comment ever made. I am so glad to see this video, where as usual you just cut stuff out get on with it and refurb perfectly. Thats why I absolutely love your work. Down side you know you can and will do it,but sometimes its nicer to do easier stuff. I think your content on your skilled work,is by far the best on utube and probably worldwide keep it up Nick Lomas London England EURO 2021 loosers
@@68hitnmiss76 yea you can prime over it but I dont like to use it over paint then prime over that. best if you just use it on rusted areas. There is so much rust on there that I need to coat the whole thing then sand it off too many painted areas.
I have broken tire beads like this before but it can be hard on the sidewalls of the vehicle you are driving if you miss your mark. You might use a wooden plank and drive straight up. I have also seen people use a LARGE C-clamp to break a bead.
price of the batteries is much less than the Milwaukee I always need extra batteries. Performance is good for the price. Plus there are lots of tools that use the same batteries. I think the Bauer line is a great value. some tools last a few dont but overall I can have many more tools for the same money.
If you're gonna cut and weld so much why not just cut and bend every side of the piece individually and weld it together at the end and save yourself time and hassle.

Wasn’t sure what I was watching at first.

Always enjoy watching the more complicated fab and repair jobs. It’s a good message, step by step and make haste slowly
Been waiting on this one! Done working on my own bug for the evening. Grabbing a brew and settle back to watch the magician at work...
Your intuitive skills amaze a clutch like me.

Ya know, you can also use that $45k bead breaker for road trips and hauling stuff! 😊
yea one of my buddies has an old ancient tire changer I might get too. small and might just have to buy it from him.
@@Mikefngarage sure bet you would get use out of it!
the master at work.
Great work, great video!! Thanks for sharing your talents.
Always excellent to watch you do your thing Mike!
The job you did on the hood stellar!
Correction that’ cadaver of a hood
and it fits pretty good now too. thanks

I wish i could do that level metal work, same with Fitzies, makes it looks so easy.
Wow, a lot of work on the hood. Great job mike 😊

Great deal Mike! What an ingenious way of breaking the bead on the tires!! 🤣
For engine maybe do an old school Okrasa type engine?

WoW!!! Very good! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼😃
Do you use rust inhibitor on the hood before you put the new piece in then put it all over the new also?
Oh yea for sure. then I will sand it back off then prime.
@@Mikefngarage I never used that stuff until this last patching job I’m doing. Can’t you prime over it?

Me: No way he can restore this
Mike Fn Garage: Hold my tools
You don't need to hammer and chisel the hood moulding off. Just pinch the spring clips from the underside.
Very interesting technique, funny enough I was thinking of how fitzee does it too and thought your way was another totally acceptable way of doing it.
Just found your channel. Loving the work so far 👍
Hard A.. work there Sir!!!! But as always, it looks Bad A.. when finished.

Sir, You are a metal sculptor. If you have time, look up Kirigami paper sculpture. You'd be a natural at this.
Great music..liked very much..use it in next video too please.kevin
Ok next time
there are good pieces in the scrap yards instead of this adjustment and fatigue
no not for this year. early 55 and earlier are super rare and hard to find hoods. they share with the split window.
View #2,295 at 10:34 PM on 7/12/21 - NJ... Mike working in four dimensions on that hood. My brain hurts lol
30k subs! Holy hell! The safer way to bead a tire :)
This entire vehicle looked like the corpse of a VW but you gave it new life
Felicidades
nice, reminds me not to start a job like this...lol
this one is easy compared to the others I have done. but yea it is a lot of work and you really need to want to see the cars saved.
This video is full a great content! Nice job Mike! I had to come back for more! =)
Nice.
Nice!
Very nice. What gauge sheet metal did you use?
Love it
How hard would it be to invest in a wireless mike? You do interesting things would like to hear more voice.
Mike what was the brand of ceramic buffing compound you did a video on a while back ? Cream x or ceram-x ?
CSI cream x is good also Menzerna Polish. 400 then use 4500 or 4000. to finish. I like CSI wool and foam pads. self centering.
@@Mikefngarage thanks ! 😊
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Glad you took those sharp edges off the inside of the hood tetanus hazard!
holy crap.
PLEASE LIKE THE VIDEO.....trying to get to 1000 likes before youtube stops recommending it.
Mike, I know you must have mentioned it before but why have you gone with the Bauer line of tools, valve, performance, etc. ?
price of the batteries is much less than the Milwaukee I always need extra batteries. Performance is good for the price. Plus there are lots of tools that use the same batteries. I think the Bauer line is a great value. some tools last a few dont but overall I can have many more tools for the same money.

Gee Tfti Mike....
How much to buy a replacement part?
Mike that’s not a restoration
It’s reanimating you’re taking from the grave and giving it life again
If you're gonna cut and weld so much why not just cut and bend every side of the piece individually and weld it together at the end and save yourself time and hassle.
too time conusming to get that shape perfect all compound bends. nothing is straight.
metal work 3.6
Du travail bien dégeulasse !
thank you for the nice comment.
The content is probably great, but the terrible music just ruined it.
Step 1. Buy new hood....
That was painful to watch
Most people dont feel that way but to each their own.
I wish he’d stop mumbling
