This song and this video never gets old, no matter how many times I watch it. Sir Elton John is truly a legend, one of the greatest musicians of our time.
What a wonderful performance! Been listening to Elton Johns music since the late 60's and the songs sound just as good today as they did way back then. The man is a true Rock legend!
elton john is simply the best!!! he's the story of the music...he's great!!! his music is really lovely... Thank you for your music elton, you're a great singer and a marvellous pianist!!! i love u!!!
He makes love like its something you can hold and touch....He makes the hearts of people shine....He makes everybody in the world feeling like their in love...HE IS THE LEGENDARY ELTON JOHN!!
i could listen to this song 2 billion times and it would never get old. Elton john is just the most amazing, one of the most talented musicians i have seen and heard in my lifetime! This man is really incredible.
Best piano man EVER! and one of the best singers.. Elton John is a genius, with wonderful but simple songs, elton john is,today, maibe one of the greatest singers ever... thumbs up if you agree!
"And I think it's gonna be a long, long time, 'till touchdown brings me 'round again to find, I'm not the man, they think I am at home" Love that part!
Elton John R.I.P? The legend that he is is still rocking as well as he was 30 years ago, I went to see him play in Carlisle 3 weeks ago and he blew the entire crowd away. Sheer legend :-P
I am speechless... his piano solo gave me chills. I could listen all day long to his talent. The version is a little different then what i remember but how amazing he still is. He is even better with age. LONG LIVE ELTON JOHN...
I've been looking at the different versions of this song( him in the 70's; this one) and no matter how old he is, he is still golden. I actually like how rich his voice has become over the years. Beautiful.
i saw him last year and during this same he totally changed the key and made it totally jazzy and bluesy. We didn't even know it was the same song until he started singing again. It was absolutely amazing. Elton john is a legend
How many of us are rocket men? (or women) I know I am. Such a tremendous song. One of the all time greatest artists on earth. Some of the audience is near tears, so to am I sometimes when I listen and reflect on some lifestyle cfhoices I have made. Thank you Elton.
Watching this song (always an Elton gem for me), live on A & E was just about the best 10 minutes of a crummy year in Pittsburgh. (Go Browns) World Trade center was hit only days before this performance & I was still in shock while watching this. What you don't see here is the women making the request in memory of her late husband who lost his life on 9/11 as a NYC fire-fighter. She tells Elton it was his favorite song. What drove me to tears, occurs at the 6 minute mark when he adds the man's name (Peter) into the song. How cool is it, that for the rest of her life, she can replay this (if strong enough?) & hear a musical legend call out to her husband! While Elton has lost a lot of range in his voice, he makes up for it with his fan-first approach to performing combined with his wonderful (and one of a kind) piano style. Look at all the tears running down the faces of the crowd. I remember how powerful this concert felt for me at least. While this was very moving, nothing will ever touch THE WHO @ Madison Sq. Garden for all the NYC Fire-fighters, police, and other brave souls who gave their lives on 9/11. I'll forever have the image burned on my brain, of about 4 policemen in full uniform paying tribute to lost comrades. They all have their arms around each other, drinking beer ,singing along, & doing "windmills" with Pete Townshend to Baba O'Riley & Won't Get Fooled Again. So much pain to release and Rock n Roll appeared to be the perfect remedy? Too powerful for words....go watch it!
my brother's name is Rocket and our family always has a smile on their face when they hear this song. And i think its gonna be a long long time, touchdown brings me round to find, im not the man i think at all, Im a rocket man.
it s great.he had imaginated in 70 s... that we would be slaves of our speed machines, computers etc...i play that song at the beach where i live....i was only 12 years old ...when i listened that great song!
This is a fucking great song... It's so powerful. Makes me shaking inside. John & Taupin are real poets. They finded themselves and they work so perfectly together. Genius !!
I had the privilege to witness this song live a couple months ago, and I must say, Sir Elton John was incredible. This song was amazing, as was a nice 7 minute piano solo (improvisation?) he did.
Elton did this show Live by Request just weeks after the 9/11 attacks and a woman whose husband was killed in the attack, requested this song as a tribute, just makes this all the more powerful.
I'll have to agree that his music is some of the best. Coming form the younger generation, in my 20's, most peers think it odd that I know and like this music, but it will long out live some being produced today. Only wish I could develop more on his style of playing, def. a legend.
His voice is so perfect now he has lost his higher voice but gained so much power in his deeper voice love hearing him sing so much more now then I used too.
everyone in the audience looks so sad because this was a tribute concert right after 9/11 for the family and friends of all lost in the attacks... it was a live show on A&E and people were allowed to call in and request songs... a woman called in crying, she lost her husband in one of the towers, this was his favorite song. her story was very sad and moving and you could tell that even elton was a bit touched so thats why he took his time singing this song.
I'll just ignore some of the daft comments posted. This is an excellent re-working of one of his greatest songs. Saw him do this in concert and was blown away!!!
I wrote a while back that this performance came from a woman who requested that Elton sing Rocketman in memory of her husband who died on 9/11. In fact his performance was just weeks after that horrible day. But you can see Elton at the 0:05 mark look at his band as if to say "Okay guys, we HAVE to come through on this"
Oh no, this song is about the moments of self awareness, acceptance that a grown man comes into when he realizes he can't be all things to all people. The recognition that a man is essentially on his own, separated from home, women, friends until touch down. These lyrics metaphorically describe a verity of the masculine nature.
His voice seems to have changed in the last 20 years and I like it better in ways... which is odd, usually the age diminishes voice... but with Elton John (and the lead singer of the foundations to name another) it just got better... terrific
certainly, Elton Johns voice has changed over the years. I guess all performers tone of voice changes with age and use. But l am soooo impressed with this performance. He seems to have accepted the changes and adjusted his style accordingly. I think the standing ovation at the end says it all! Elton, my dear, you can sing this song in any tone of voice you like because Rocket Man is still going to be one of my favourite songs of all time.
This was just after 9/11.The woman who called in said her name was Robin. The song was for her husband who worked in the WTC. They still hadn't found him. This song was his favorite. I will never forget that call.
This song and this video never gets old, no matter how many times I watch it. Sir Elton John is truly a legend, one of the greatest musicians of our time.

What a wonderful performance!

"And I think it's gonna be a long, long time, 'till touchdown brings me 'round again to find, I'm not the man, they think I am at home"
Love that part!

Awesome song. I'm not even a large Elton John fan, but you can't deny; he has a gift.
I especially fell for this song. Enchanting. 5/5.
I am speechless... his piano solo gave me chills. I could listen all day long to his talent. The version is a little different then what i remember but how amazing he still is. He is even better with age. LONG LIVE ELTON JOHN...

Sir Elton, one of the most outanding musicians of the 20th century. (Standing ovation)
This is my favorite Elton John song EVER. I have made it my mission in life to meet Elton John. Wish me luck.
This is my favorite version of the song. Usually, live music isn't as sentimental. But Elton John can put such emotion into his performances.
Elton ...heavy cold and sore throat for this performance???? MAN YOU DA BOMB Homey!!!. Thank you for still performing even when you are sick sweetie!
J'adore Elton John. Il est vraiment une chanseur fantastique! Et j'aime cette chanson

This is my favorite version of this song. The fills he uses here fit together so well.
just saw his one man show in Tokyo and his voice was stronger than it's ever been and his piano playing simply mesmerizing. Really amazing show
I remember this performance, he had a major cold and sore throat but did not want to cancel the show. What a trooper! Luvly Jubbly.
saw him last year!! what an amazing musician and this is my favorite song of his!

Hearing him do this at a traditional gospel-ballad tempo is amazing!
Elton truly is the best...
And he will be as high as a kite
I'll have to agree that his music is some of the best. Coming form the younger generation, in my 20's, most peers think it odd that I know and like this music, but it will long out live some being produced today. Only wish I could develop more on his style of playing, def. a legend.

I first heard this song on Californication. I forgot all about it, until just recently watching Nip/Tuck and heard it....Awesome.
