I just bought my nephew a lodge dutch oven for his hunting season and he will be watching your videos, thanks for great info and you 2 make a great team.
What an excellent video. Their explanation of how to adjust the heat is brilliant. Really. I realize as a former Boy Scout - I was cooking wrong (and so was the Scoutmaster!) Thanks! Great and informative production.
*"Don't be afraid to start."* That's some sage advice, right there. If you never start, one day you're old, you look back and wish you'd done all kinds of things. But you just never made the decision to "start" doing.
Advice that goes with ANY endeavor ... 15 or 20 years down the road is coming. It's gonna come! And when it's gone, you gonna look back. You's gonna be happy looking back, or you's gonna be lamenting. Start today! It's not too late folks! God Bless everyone of you.
I have several cast iron pieces that I recently re-seasoned from scratch. Thanks for the videos on doing that. On a whim, I bought a new Lodge cast iron camp oven. Figured I'd have a go cooking something. Jeeze, I didn't know there would be a science to it. I thought I'd just lay it directly on the charcoal and get it cooking. Glad I watched this video before destroying some food. My first cook was on a gas grill in my kitchen to get things started, then moved it to the electric oven to break the meat down. It was no problem since the heat in both cases was well controlled. Thanks for the video. Very informative.
Suggestion. Let Kent do the talking. He is the charm of this channel. I did go to your site and order a trivet with both size legs and a big jar of Red River Seasoning. Thanks.
You are giving me so much information before I receive my new dutch oven. I ordered one a few days ago and is planning on using it upon receiving it. I live in a rural area and since we do lose electricity several times during each year so I need something like that to cook food with in that case. I was raised using a large pot in the yard and it was used to heat water to wash clothes in and then used to make our cooking lard, and making cracklings with. My grandmother used her wood stove to cook on and she had a cast iron skillet to cook with and I still have that skillet and continue to use it. I thank you for the tips on using the dutch oven and I hope to get the most out of it along with the skillet I have.
Great video. I tell many many people interested in campfire/dutch oven/outside cooking to your channel and to buy your book. This content is why you’re my number one recommendation. I learn something from every video. Thanks for the education.
Thank you 3 and I say 3 because of the wagon. I have cast iron from my great grandmother over 100 years old it makes the best corn bread and fried taters but because of you 2 I am learning how much more I can do thanks again Mike FW TX.
Ms. & Sir Rollins: Your explanations are excellent; your personalities are warm & welcoming! Wish I'd ride a Paso Fino horse over to your ranch and have fun with The OK Chefs' cooking. Thank you!
Great video, I have tried to help some people when I see them adding to much coals, most the time I am welcomed but a couple of times I was told where to stick my advice, I just walk away and watch them as they can not understand why it is burnt ? I am no master but I do have almost 30 years under my Dutch ovens using them and I learn something new all the time. Thanks for sharing with us.
Long-time fan just asking where Shannon came from and how you guys met, maybe through the years I've missed it and by all means nothing but love and respect God bless the both of you guys!!!
Any kind of cast iron cooking is an art. And to get good at art, you have to practice. I don't have a cook table. My Dutch oven hangs from the tripod, or sits on the grate over an open fire. Been doing it for years, and I'm still learning new tricks.
Kent and Shannon, another informative video. I really enjoy your stuff. I also cook for many people at a time. I'm a one hand veteran and can cook just about anything. I have a duel axel BBQ Pitt and a 10gallon 80yr old cast iron jambalaya pot in my possession to name a few. One thing I've learned through my 40 years of cooking is to focus and don't burn it. Oh! And throw out every 41 bean if you want less gas in your pot. God Bless
One tip I would like to share is when I cook a lean cuisine in my dutch oven, I normally use a 10 lb chunk of coal on the top and an 8 lb chunk on the bottom. When they are full on red they act like a microwave and cook it in about 3 minutes. :) Seriously though, great vid.
Ive just popped my dutch oven cheery and i found this video really intresting and i feel ive learnt a little bit from you thank you much love from the uk 🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸
Thanks guys!! I do a lot of DO cooking using briquettes, and have been wanting to transition to real wood coals. Good info and tips! I appreciate ya very much
Finally start raining in my part of Illinois.so long drought.here come Roman with cooking on open fire.My neighbors favorite time of the year .First on the schedule is Czech beef potato sausage goulash😋I need to ask someone to veld the base for me .I am still using bricks.but I don't mind ,it just seem easier with the stand .thanx for very good pointers.👍👍
TH-cam is like Breathing for me, it's so much information! Someone told me how they used cast iron pots a long time ago, but because I haven't seen it, I would have gotten it wrong. So I decided to go on the tube, I saw this Clip, and these two love Birds demonstrate the Dutch oven Tutorial very well! I'm looking for those iron stands online for sale, I only saw the Images. And far as a Cake, wow...it will take a lot of practice for a Newbie like me, start with Box Mix. Thumbs Up, and a disappointment anyone give a thumbs down!
Kent you and your lovely wife do a great job on training and explaining I have gotten tons of info from your cook book and videos and my lovely wife loves it when I go outside and do my home grown roasts in the dutch oven the flavor is out of this world. Great job as always God Bless you and your family.
I am going to be welding up some horseshoe trivets for myself. Dutch Ovens woutout legs on them are much cheaper. It will a cheaper way to get started in Dutch Oven cooking. Great videos!
Thanks for another great tip I have learned a great deal thanks you folks we had our first annual cowboy breakfast last Christmas Eve and everyone is looking forward to this years cowboy breakfast thanks again keep on cookin
The Food Network is Missing out on having you both on a TV program. Competition cooking programs ruined the entire channel. Every time I see that wagon, tent and stove it makes me want travel out west and camp out in the planes with you all. Thanks for all the great videos.

I will make my video of my cooking on the open fire with my Griswolds just to show you how I NEED this video and MORE OF THEM! I love open fire cooking but struggle with it. Thank you both!
value added video right here. I got a lodge trivet, but might not be high enough from looking at this video. I'll have to peruse your website for the horse shoe.
Hello from Angier North Carolina y'all. Love y'all to death. Wish y'all come to my neck of the woods cause id love to meet ya and cook with Kent. I love my cast iron. Startef using it after seeing Kent and love it. Need a Dutch oven once I can afford one like y'all got. Got 4 youngins so money is tight
The cowboy baked beans is a favorite recipe around my house. Just beware of how many chipotle peppers you use. It’s a sneaky slow burn! (The cookbook has jalapeño peppers listed, but every grocery store here in San Antonio has chipotle peppers in adobo.) 😁
As always another great video. I’ve been meaning to get some horseshoes welded up for a few months now. Looks like I might have some free time this weekend. We have a big family gathering In a few weeks and I’m going to teach a bunch of them how to D.O. cook. And of course show them a bunch of y’alls videos.
Just starting to learn how to cook this way. Hurricane season is on its way and I need to be ready in case. I have my oven but will probably order a trivet. Genius idea btw. I have seen folks put a trivet inside the pot but this is on the outside. I wonder...can we use both for better heat control while baking??
Thanks u Kent and Shannon u two rock and Kent u have a good catch Shannon have a sister that like to do like she does I love out doors and I love to cook going to get few things from u soon thanks again u two are alsome and love ur videos 👍😎😎
