I think it's highly possible and there is more than one morse codes on this episode. first Daryl, then Rick with Lucille, then Father Gabriel when he touch his pants several times (no joking lmao) and even Eugene with the radio. My thoughts, they all learn morse code in case something like that happen. The giant poster was not there for nothing, in a world like this, it's a really clever thing to learn that language.

I just thought it was odd that the camera would pan to that. Anyway, just thought I'd mention it.
Negan did tell Rick not to look at him at all. It could be a sign for us to catch the Easter egg. They could have practiced Morse code in the past as a way to communicate,because they have been in situations like this before.

OMG! This episode was insane in terms of subtle details! The morse code tablet, Rick´s vídeo of season 5, the orage can that Denise wanted to offer Tara and my favorite...the first shell case for the future war begins with a bullet fired by Negan inside Alexandria! I believe that this episode in a subtle way was Negan´s first mistake! Also i loved the evolution of Father Gabriel who now has faith in Rick Vs. Spencer who keeps blaming Rick for all the problems in Alexandria like Father Gabriel in season 5!!

Judging by the focused look on Rick's face when he first saw Daryl in the episode, it wouldn't be far-fetched to think that Rick caught on to Daryl's code. For starters, it would make sense that the Alexandrians have some form of nonverbal communication for dire situations. Secondly, based off of the fact that Rick was once a sheriff, you'd think that he would have been perceptive enough to catch that.

I've been a TWD fan for 7 seasons now, and they NEVER do or show anything without a reason! As SOON as I saw the Morse Code sign in the house, I KNEW they were going to use it. When Daryl showed up, and they showed his eyes, that confirmed what I already suspected. Now, ur right in the fact that did Rick catch the message, probably not, but we as fans sure the F#$% did, which i think is great! The biggest thing about TWD that I love is that it is one big community. We, the fans, received the message loud and clear. This is definitely not true. If it was, how would they bring it up in a future episode? If Rick tried relaying Daryl's message to the whole group, how would he explain it? By saying "Daryl blinked it to me in morse code."? That sounds insane and I don't see how they would be able to use it in the plot

One of the writers said they don't show everything the characters have discussed throughout the show. Some things are just the way they are & we assume they've talked about it. This isn't anything HUGE as far as a secret goes. It's Daryl w/ his survival instincts kicking in & I'm sure they've talked about a code but they never had to show this. It's not a big deal. However, it is pretty awesome how fans caught this. :)

aljoshua ramirez you remember how much he tried to bring his old friend, who ran away, back to the compound? He knew that he was the only chance this guy had to come back alive, so he went and volunteered to get him even after Negan said it was grunt work. Dwight only killed him after his old friend begged for death. Once Dwight threatened his girl, the guy complied, and he told Dwight that he knows that they are all prisoners or something like that. Dwight then thought about his words, and realized that his old friend would do anything to protect the girl he cared about, so he gave him the death that he asked for. Dwight did not deliver head shot, because then Negan might get suspicious that Dwight mercy killed his old friend, and so Negan might actually harm his girl as a test for Dwight, since the 3 of them were tight from beforehand. So Dwight brought him back as a walker so Negan would believe that Dwight was playing by the rules, and Dwights dead friend's girl would not be punished in accordance to Negan's law, since the offender was made to live on in service of securing the perimeter of the base as a walker.
If the sanctuary is to the east, its going to have to be a hell of a lot further than 6 miles. No way it would be that close and so much time go by before Alexandria and the Saviors had found one another.

Daryl is blinking because he hasn't seen sun light in so long. He is being kept in a cell all day everyday. When you don't get any sun light or being kept in the dark your eyes have to adjust to light that's why he is blinking so much.👍
when originally watching the episode I did notice right away the HUGH code poster and thought 1) that's an odd piece to have that large hanging on the wall and 2) it must mean something then as Michone crossed in front of it, hmmm. I did notice Daryl blinking a lot but never put it together myself, it was so obvious! These WD fans are fabulous for picking up on that and possibly figuring out what Daryl was saying! I believe Rick would pick up on that due to all his police training plus he and Daryl have a way of just "looking" at one another and know what the score is. I mean Daryl wouldn't be an awesome right hand man if they didnt have that connection! Rick & Daryl forever!!

Smith Daryl's brother was in the military I think they said once in season 3 and sense before the apocalypse Daryl would basically just follow after his brother he must've learned a few things from him anyway. For Rick on the other hand he had the morse code on the wall and sense Rick is always trying to prepare for the worst almost he had this all down before, the seasons do skip around a lot and maybe it's just assumed that they know morse code.
The show def indulges in Easter Egg Hunts and foreshadowing. I noticed one that I hadn't seen mentioned online before when re watching the last few seasons waiting for this season to begin. While Rick is walking around Alexandria like Mall Security or Constable as they call it, in the background it shows a street sign. The name of the street is Morgan. Who we all know shows up a few episodes later.
Not sure if someone else mentioned it, but this is most likely stemming from an American that was kept prisoner years back and during a video taping for American Leaders, he blinked morse code saying "torture". I mean, if you compare them, it's the same thing. Daryl is a prisoner of war, he's been beaten and tortured, and he's using morse code to get a message to his leaders. If not, that's freaking awesome coincidence. Thanks for the video. THumbing up.

Hey Trev, you need to check out Season 5 Finale Episode "Conquer", at the end when Rick drops the walker in the middle of the community meeting and he's telling them how the real world is...they DO show a quick view of Carl holding Judith, and behind Carl and Judith is the exact same Morse Code sign, so maybe there IS something to it. I'm pretty sure the morse code poster WAS in the show prior to season 7. I thought I saw it in the house that was given to Rick and Carl when they first came to Alexandria.
The morse code sign has been in the house since they got to Alexandria. If you watch any of the behind the scenes on the DVDs, just about everything hanging on their walls has meaning.
In the show "Prison Break", Scofield sent a morse code video message to his girlfriend Sara by twitching his hand so I can certainly believe Daryl is sending morse code to Rick & co. They could've pre-planned this communication method months prior in case something like this ever happened to anyone of them!

If you watch Daryl closely when they focus on him right after Negan kills the Walker at the beginning of the episode you can see Daryl blinking and kind of bob his head like he is counting.
Rick was a police officer too so he can see and notice things most people can't. If it was a message which I think it was, then Rick definitely picked up on it.

well, in the sneak peek for next episode, michonne and carl are talking about rick having gone somewhere...maybe he went to check out darryl's info...maybe went to see if he could find the sanctuary and scope it out.... i wouldnt put it past them to put that in there, there's always foreshadowing and hints in this show...so yeah could very well be morse code
I'd be impressed if this is indeed true. It fits with the whole Chekhov's gun rule though. For those who don't know Chekhov's gun is a foreshadowing device often used in fiction that states "If you see a gun hanging on the wall in act 1, then it must be used in act 2 or 3 of a story or else it wouldn't be there in plain sight. Though not always true it is rather strange to have the morse code thing in the background at the beginning of the episode if it serves no relevance to the story later in the episode. As far as Rick actually getting he message... I'd say it's a toss up. Rick and Daryl are quite close as anyone watching the series would know. Though Rick was under an extreme amount of stress with Negan visiting I think it may still be possible he picked up on Daryl's non-verbal communication because according the Chekhov's Gun, why else would they show him blinking? Now I look forward to seeing if this is actually a thing or not. Good vid!

I'm not sure why you'd think that blinking Morse code is so strange. This happened in real life. Jeremiah Denton was a US prisoner of war during the Vietnam War and he did this when they forced him to make a propaganda film. He blinked the word "torture" to let people know he was being mistreated even though the words he was forced to speak said differently.
When Negan goes after the guns there is a scene where you can see rick using his finger on the bat to signal Daryl who is off screen while Negan has his back towards the screen.
The Morse Code wall hanger has been there since they arrived at Alexandria. I use to think Enid was using code when she was on top of the roof flashing her lighter.
Eugene might be working on a short wave Morse code radio so Ricks group can communicate long distance in secret. Or he might be making Negan a two way radio set up that Ricks group can track. Negan was demanding something special next time.

During a 1966 televised propaganda interview he repeatedly blinked his eyes in Morse code. He was spelling out "T-O-R-T-U-R-E" . As a kid, I remember that interview. So yes, Daryl's blinks could be Morse code.
I think there would've had to have been an earlier use of morse code by the group to support this idea. Daryl is a tracker and Rick was a sheriff so it makes sense they would have an understanding of morse code but in all the previous episodes we have never seen them use it. I think it is too out of the blue. I think it is more likely the sign in the background is setting up a future use of morse

I noticed the morse code board when watching the episode today, i thought it had an unusal amount of focus :D
This is definitely not true. If it was, how would they bring it up in a future episode? If Rick tried relaying Daryl's message to the whole group, how would he explain it? By saying "Daryl blinked it to me in morse code."? That sounds insane and I don't see how they would be able to use it in the plot
I thought the blinking was a way to show that Daryl was broken.. But I hope it was morse code! :D

One of the writers said they don't show everything the characters have discussed throughout the show. Some things are just the way they are & we assume they've talked about it. This isn't anything HUGE as far as a secret goes. It's Daryl w/ his survival instincts kicking in & I'm sure they've talked about a code but they never had to show this. It's not a big deal. However, it is pretty awesome how fans caught this. :)

aljoshua ramirez you remember how much he tried to bring his old friend, who ran away, back to the compound? He knew that he was the only chance this guy had to come back alive, so he went and volunteered to get him even after Negan said it was grunt work. Dwight only killed him after his old friend begged for death. Once Dwight threatened his girl, the guy complied, and he told Dwight that he knows that they are all prisoners or something like that. Dwight then thought about his words, and realized that his old friend would do anything to protect the girl he cared about, so he gave him the death that he asked for. Dwight did not deliver head shot, because then Negan might get suspicious that Dwight mercy killed his old friend, and so Negan might actually harm his girl as a test for Dwight, since the 3 of them were tight from beforehand. So Dwight brought him back as a walker so Negan would believe that Dwight was playing by the rules, and Dwights dead friend's girl would not be punished in accordance to Negan's law, since the offender was made to live on in service of securing the perimeter of the base as a walker.
If the sanctuary is to the east, its going to have to be a hell of a lot further than 6 miles. No way it would be that close and so much time go by before Alexandria and the Saviors had found one another.
If you watch Daryl it looks like he's counting when he's blinking.

Daryl is blinking because he hasn't seen sun light in so long. He is being kept in a cell all day everyday. When you don't get any sun light or being kept in the dark your eyes have to adjust to light that's why he is blinking so much.👍

when originally watching the episode I did notice right away the HUGH code poster and thought 1) that's an odd piece to have that large hanging on the wall and 2) it must mean something then as Michone crossed in front of it, hmmm. I did notice Daryl blinking a lot but never put it together myself, it was so obvious! These WD fans are fabulous for picking up on that and possibly figuring out what Daryl was saying! I believe Rick would pick up on that due to all his police training plus he and Daryl have a way of just "looking" at one another and know what the score is. I mean Daryl wouldn't be an awesome right hand man if they didnt have that connection! Rick & Daryl forever!!

Smith Daryl's brother was in the military I think they said once in season 3 and sense before the apocalypse Daryl would basically just follow after his brother he must've learned a few things from him anyway. For Rick on the other hand he had the morse code on the wall and sense Rick is always trying to prepare for the worst almost he had this all down before, the seasons do skip around a lot and maybe it's just assumed that they know morse code.

The show def indulges in Easter Egg Hunts and foreshadowing. I noticed one that I hadn't seen mentioned online before when re watching the last few seasons waiting for this season to begin. While Rick is walking around Alexandria like Mall Security or Constable as they call it, in the background it shows a street sign. The name of the street is Morgan. Who we all know shows up a few episodes later.
Daryl reminds me of my dog when I leave the house, drop my pup off groomer or take him to the vet. Same mannerisms and worried, pleading look.

Not sure if someone else mentioned it, but this is most likely stemming from an American that was kept prisoner years back and during a video taping for American Leaders, he blinked morse code saying "torture". I mean, if you compare them, it's the same thing. Daryl is a prisoner of war, he's been beaten and tortured, and he's using morse code to get a message to his leaders.

that is so awesome, I was disappointed with the Negan going on and on but now I see when Rick seemed to be listening he was watching Daryl and maybe they had this planned before as a contingency plan .. that would be so cool, maybe Daryl told Rick that's how he and his brother used to communicate when hunting or hiding from there dad.

A few months ago, I looked up the 3D tour of Alexandria. I came across ricks house and found the poster. I never thought to much of it.
The episode number is behind Gabriel when he meets Negan too. Rarely does something mean nothing in this show, it's so good.

Hey Trev, you need to check out Season 5 Finale Episode "Conquer", at the end when Rick drops the walker in the middle of the community meeting and he's telling them how the real world is...they DO show a quick view of Carl holding Judith, and behind Carl and Judith is the exact same Morse Code sign, so maybe there IS something to it. Check it out, and keep up the top notch work, bro!! Love it.

I'm pretty sure the morse code poster WAS in the show prior to season 7. I thought I saw it in the house that was given to Rick and Carl when they first came to Alexandria.
Season 5, episode 12 @ 17:30 when Michonne comes into the room and asks "How long was I in there for?" The sign is there.
The morse code sign has been in the house since they got to Alexandria. If you watch any of the behind the scenes on the DVDs, just about everything hanging on their walls has meaning.
I think it's how Rick figures out where the sanctuary, and Carl overhears and attempts to save Daryl.

In the show "Prison Break", Scofield sent a morse code video message to his girlfriend Sara by twitching his hand so I can certainly believe Daryl is sending morse code to Rick & co. They could've pre-planned this communication method months prior in case something like this ever happened to anyone of them!
I must say, the guilt Daryl feels over Glenn I doubt that he'd want them to go and rescue him. Therefore I believe that it's more than likely not morse code. Hoping that a morse code message is the case though! Much love Trev and subs!
The Morse code chart has actually been there since season 5. I remember seeing in the Alexandria 3D tour they released over a year ago.

That ASL poster has been there since Season 5 when the group moved into that house in Alexandria.
The morse code board was there before s7, go back to when Rick is making his speech in the season 5 finale and you will see Carl and Judith sitting in front of it.

If you watch Daryl closely when they focus on him right after Negan kills the Walker at the beginning of the episode you can see Daryl blinking and kind of bob his head like he is counting.
Rick was a police officer too so he can see and notice things most people can't. If it was a message which I think it was, then Rick definitely picked up on it.
i think rick knew what he was saying because if you notice rick kept tapping his finger on the bat and daryl kept looking down...so i think they were communicating
well, in the sneak peek for next episode, michonne and carl are talking about rick having gone somewhere...maybe he went to check out darryl's info...maybe went to see if he could find the sanctuary and scope it out.... i wouldnt put it past them to put that in there, there's always foreshadowing and hints in this show...so yeah could very well be morse code

I'd be impressed if this is indeed true. It fits with the whole Chekhov's gun rule though. For those who don't know Chekhov's gun is a foreshadowing device often used in fiction that states "If you see a gun hanging on the wall in act 1, then it must be used in act 2 or 3 of a story or else it wouldn't be there in plain sight. Though not always true it is rather strange to have the morse code thing in the background at the beginning of the episode if it serves no relevance to the story later in the episode. As far as Rick actually getting he message... I'd say it's a toss up. Rick and Daryl are quite close as anyone watching the series would know. Though Rick was under an extreme amount of stress with Negan visiting I think it may still be possible he picked up on Daryl's non-verbal communication because according the Chekhov's Gun, why else would they show him blinking?

I'm not sure why you'd think that blinking Morse code is so strange. This happened in real life. Jeremiah Denton was a US prisoner of war during the Vietnam War and he did this when they forced him to make a propaganda film. He blinked the word "torture" to let people know he was being mistreated even though the words he was forced to speak said differently.
When Negan goes after the guns there is a scene where you can see rick using his finger on the bat to signal Daryl who is off screen while Negan has his back towards the screen.

Eugene might be working on a short wave Morse code radio so Ricks group can communicate long distance in secret. Or he might be making Negan a two way radio set up that Ricks group can track. Negan was demanding something special next time.
I don't get why even if Daryl flat out says 6 miles from the hilltop or even if Rick flat out knows where the sanctuary is, so what what's he gonna do ? Break Daryl out he can't do shit anyway, so I don't get why knowing where the sanctuary is matters cause if anyone gets seen there Rick would be to scared that Negan would kill more people or kill Daryl

During a 1966 televised propaganda interview he repeatedly blinked his eyes in Morse code. He was spelling out "T-O-R-T-U-R-E" . As a kid, I remember that interview. So yes, Daryl's blinks could be Morse code.
I think there would've had to have been an earlier use of morse code by the group to support this idea. Daryl is a tracker and Rick was a sheriff so it makes sense they would have an understanding of morse code but in all the previous episodes we have never seen them use it. I think it is too out of the blue. I think it is more likely the sign in the background is setting up a future use of morse
