You are right Sam they are tree guards to stop rabbits and deer eating the young trees / saplings and give the tree some support and they allow light through for the trees to grow, however if the woodland is managed correctly they should be removed well before the tree splits them and the can be reused. What you tend to find are mice and vole nests inside them as they seem to love them. Great video
Excellent video love the combination of the aerial shots combined with the ground footage and stunning shots of the barn owl well done . it’s so sad that wildlife is disappearing around us. especially badgers and other wildlife it absolutely makes me sick when I’m driving and see these poor animals lying dead at the roadside caused by human intervention. by people who just drive too fast and the amount of cars on on the roads now is ridiculous and is getting worse every year. This pandemic highlighted this fact when we were in lockdown. it’s just amazing how peaceful and quiet it became. But not only that all the wildlife slowly started to creep back as though a great pressure had been released. It goes to show how insignificant we are as a species. If we’re suddenly all wiped out. In a few years we would all just be forgotten just left over relics from a forgotten age and wildlife will return and just carry on. Creating new habitats from the ruins of the human race. How pathetic.
Unfortunately true and there are so many places that proved wildlife will always thrive in human absence. In my town recently are so many fields given to build houses on them and it is so sad. Coming from Romania where there is wilderness to uk where you don’t have any just some nature reserves with motorway sound on the background it makes me quite sad
Nice vlog Samuel, the trail camera is a good idea. The badgers burrows are called 'Setts' and as you say an active Sett will have a clean entrance, when you eventually have a chance to photograph Badgers they love peanuts so use these as bait. Take care 👍
Nice one Sam,hope you get some positive news on the Barn owl 🦉 l recently put a trail cam where I thought there were badgers 🦡 and was rewarded with some images. A trail camera is a good tool to have and will save you many wasted hours. Good luck. Neil.
Hi Samuel, great channel you have. I have been binge watching over the last few days. The trail cams are really good and have worked great for me. I spent weeks looking for a badger sett and left cameras out for periods from 2 days to 3 weeks. Eventually found two active setts with one cam having 27 videos in two days. Great video mate
Nice videos Sam, I am hoping to reopen the hide in May providing government legislation allows and then you will be more than welcome to come and photo the badgers that visit my garden.
