I've been a fan of Ed for more than 15 years. As a bassist myself, I've learned so much from his videos. Also as a fellow New Yorker and Berklee alumni, I've always felt a connection with him.
As a pretty new bass player...almost 2 years in....I have watched a lot of his old demos. Also bought his scale book and it is opening my bass world. Thankee Ed.
I had the pleasure of taking a virtual lesson with Ed. He is not only a great player and educator - he is also one of the coolest people you'll ever meet.
How tough can it be?? Only 4 strings & you only play one at a time. Oh, yeah... You have to outline the chords, enhance the harmonies, support the melody, keep time and create a conterharmonic melody at the same time. Damn, Bass players must be geniuses. I like the holding the tiles together analogy.
Actualy the double bass is a part of the viola da gamba family, not of the the violin family. Hence the differebce in shape and tuning. Otherwise good video
Well done Ed.

Great Comments....Nailed it.
A little flash of Candido Camero holding a bass there after Pettiford. :). Hence the taped hands.
Is that the Yamahiko pickup? Both sides?
Articulate, intelligent. It’s never going to catch on!

Very interesting! You must be of classical music training.
No, just a double bass enthousiast and instrument builder
