I am a crafter from the cradle (or at least age three!) and raising my five grown children has taught me a million lessons in life, including thrifting and DIY master status, haha! Oh, sweet Marla, I just love you to pieces!! I cherish my great and great great grandmothers hand made quilts that I'm now blessed to be the caretaker of. Some of them are indeed in need of some love and are thread bare in areas. I'm trying to go quilt by quilt and take my time to hand stitch those areas. I will tell you that each and every time I sit down to repair them, I become emotional because my grandmothers' hands were the last hands that touched the quilts' batting or the underside of the fabric squares. To work on a piece that their hands lovingly fashioned, makes me feel honored and blessed. Also, thank you for your sweet, timely words at the end of your video. Since moving to VA, though we know this is where God has lead us, this has been a very hard season. We blindly followed His leading and we have yet to see all the good blessings He has for us, but we are choosing to trust that His promises with come to pass because we obeyed His calling.
Rachel, I love that you're restoring your heritage quilts and mindful of the fact that those precious ladies' hands were the last to touch those hidden seams ❤️
While you're waiting for all the promises, ask God to let you see the blessings in the waiting. He wants better for us than we can imagine, and is faithful to see you through. Obedience that feels blind is the purest form of obedience. Doesn't make sense on paper, but the calling is undeniable. Trusting that lead is rooting you deeply in your walk with Him. He sees you. 🙌

Thank you for your sweet words today!❤. Sometimes we can be so overwhelmingly discouraged, but we must persevere, finish the race for our reward is when we are in heaven with our precious Lord Jesus. I do know it is hard for those of us who believe. He never said life would become easy the second we believe, but that He will be with us and never leave nor forsake us.❤
For sure we are not exempt from troubles, but He so often uses those hard times for our good! 🙌

I told the dear soul I am praying with, that when we feel like it's taking a long time to get our breakthrough, God is working behind the scenes, taking what the enemy meant for our harm and instead using it for our good. And in the waiting, He is molding us into something that looks more like Him ❤

I get so excited when I see that you post a video. I just love your videos and I appreciate old things as you do. I have several of my both my grandmas quilts. I sit there and think of all the stories she has told me of all the quilting bees and thank you for all your wonderful words. The cow might look good out in the she shed. My uncle raised highland cows. I love old bottles and collect them. When my mom passed, she had a box full of them in her basement. I was fortunate to get her collection to add to mine.
Oh, YES, in the she shed... there will surely be a spot there for a 12x12 old barnwood frame and that long haired beauty! 😍 Good idea!
To age your paper fan, use your finger to rub in some brown powdered eye shadow. It won’t damage the paper.

I love your Highland cow. I have a print of a nun leading a black and white cow that i use as a backsplash behind my stove. The nun reminds me of my old music teacher and i love her. :)
I've never seen a highland cow in person, but their photos are amazing! And I love that your print brings you sweet memories 💕 😊

Oh, you dear sweetheart, Marla. I loved your video. My mother made many, many quilts in her day long before her stroke. I display one of her first ones proudly on her daddy's rocking chair in my living room. And your message spoke so truly to me. I have quite a full plate at the moment, and there are many times when I just feel so exhausted, like I can't do anymore. You gave me the boost I needed to carry on. Thank you so much for being you. Put the paper fan flag outside and put some old coffee or tea in a water spraying bottle and spray it on both sides girl that will age it
I wondered about spraying it... it's super cheap paper so I'll have to be cautious as I try the spray. Might fleck it with antique wax on a toothbrush 🪥
I wanted you to know it is your love and appreciation for the story behind each treasure you find that has made me a loyal follower! I feel the same. I love the old not as crazy about the new. And you show me knew ways to decorate that I never thought of before and it is so much fun. Oh and girl, I luv old enamel ware. I can never pass up a piece!

I have never seen the navy blue around the edge of a dish. Oh..the highland Cow is to adorable!!!! LOVE the quilt! I am a quilt lover and I also make quilts. My husband built me a bracket with a dowel rod tween it that my quilt will fit on it. I change it out with each season. Thanks for sharing!!
I didn't even know blue edged enamelware existed! I'm thrilled with it! 😃 and I love changing decor seasonally. So much fun! 🇺🇸

The enamelware is EVERYTHING!!! Your joy and delight in rescuing old quilts is so endearing, but you are also a rescuer of discouraged souls. I was away visiting my little granddaughter when I received the notification for this video. Spending time with her is the only thing that would keep me from watching it right away. But when we got back home, I couldn't wait to see what treasures you had found. I love the quilt and it was meant for you to rescue. I wonder if there would be a spot for your highland cow in the she shed when it is finished. I guess, since I grew up on a farm, sheds make me think of livestock.😂 Also, I have aged copy paper before by soaking in coffee or tea. Maybe you could age the fans that way. Grandbabies trump all else! I spent the day with my twin grandsons yesterday. They have my heart ❤️
I'm going to experiment on those fans today. There's 6 in a pack, and they were cheap, so I'm willing to risk a couple to the soaking method. I'll have to handle them like a surgeon would, the paper is so thin. I am also going to try misting with a brown spray paint, from a few feet away and see what that does. Feeling brave 😄
I may put the highland cow in my sons' bathroom, because it would be cute in there, and because if I put it in there and don't say a word, I will likely get some funny feedback. 😆
I am so glad you heard personal meaning in my words at the end of the video. I really felt prompted to share that, as it has been huge in my mind as I pray for and with someone very close to me. God often gives us direction, and if we listen, it often plays a role in His plan for us! Lord, give me ears to hear You more! 🙌

Love the quilt!!! I have a quilt my great-grandmother made all by hand using old clothes. It’s hanging on the wall behind my couch. I also have a quilt my husband’s great-grandmother made, I don’t have the history about the material but it’s lovely also. I have it hanging on the wall in my hall.
How wonderful to have antique quilts handed down, and to know history about them! I have a couple special ones like that, but my heart is tender toward any antique quilt that falls into my path. I'm sure every time you go down your hall, your heart smiles at that quilt! 😊 💕
Marla I think you could put some tea or coffee in a spray bottle and spray your fans. Lightly! And let them dry out side in the sun.
I may end up doing a combination of a few ideas... that's a good one! 😃👍

Oh Marla, I am so glad you are back. I surely missed you. I was thinking what you could do with your Quilt. Get one of the wooden towel holders, you may find one at the thrift store. Hang it on the wall and hook the quilt thru it.I have seen them several times at different times. Maybe you could find a picture of one. I also love the highland cows. Maybe you could add red white and blue little flower on her head and use it in your 4th of July decor. Ijust love you Marla Cain. You are such a blessing to me and an insperation. God Bless.
Oooh, making that highland cow a part of my July 4th decor is a great idea! It just needs a white frame and some Itty bitty baby's breath with a tiny blue flower and a red berry 😍

Hey Marla! For the paper accordion fans, a good way to antique them might be to mix instant coffee with water in a squirt bottle. Then, squirt the fans and let it dry. I’ve antiques white hymnal pages like that before. Hope this helps. ❤️ LOVE THAT QUILT!!!
That sounds like a great method! I might try different ideas on each of those 6 fans to see what that thin paper will tolerate the best 👌 😃

I went to DT, everything red white & blue had glitter! It is horrible. I do not want any glitter. But I went to the Good will bins,wow 3 wreaths an old shoe brush pit berrys,and a shaker box.....9.oo$ first time I went!🧐
I wish I had a Goodwill Bins nearer to me! Closest is Chattanooga 1+ hour away. I don't care for glitter (maybe a tiny bit, occasionally) but there must be a lot of glitter lovers out there!! ✨️ 😄

I have a frame with two highland cows in my bedroom!
😄 they are so adorable! I believe I may put it in the bathroom my sons use... I'll see if they remark on it! They normally just ignore/tolerate my decor 😆 🤣 😂
we call them mud dobbers in oklahoma! 🤪 yup I use cake icing spreaders for PB and Mayo and anything else in the kitchen....rarely for icing...lol

The icing spreaders are used daily over here. I make Ben's breakfast and lunch every day, in the morning before he heads out. It saves time and money so he doesn't have to sit in a drive-thru line. His commute is 1 hrs 15 minutes ONE WAY and if traffic isn't bad, so I like to do that for him. Mayonnaise spreaders make the task faster 😊

I would be listening to books on tape....oops I mean audio books....Our library has a wonderful partnership with Libby Overdrive...books and audio books over the internet for free......and I use the heck out of it! free is in my price budget! lol. He has Sirius XM and listens to a lot of conservative talk shows. He also listens to Bible reading and that's how he usually gets his daily Bible time.

I think the cow picture would be cute on the porch but Alabama has extremely high humidity, and it would really ruin any paper like that, unfortunately. We live in a sauna here! 🌧 😓
