      Great to hear! I really appreciate the comment. When I got my Di2, I found that there was a lot to know about it and I was not given much info from the Bike Shop. I have been learning and trying to get the info out there when I discover something new.

      After the greenlight chose the battery status, both lights, then show you what shift mode the bike is in.

    Great video - thanks. I cannot seem to get my shifter out of synchronous mode. When i activate the shifter it shows me the green light and then flashes 3 times. Pushing the button twice does not change anything. If I hold the button down longer it just starts blinking alternating red-green side to side. Any ideas? It is on a new GRX Di2 groupset
    thx

      Gary, thanks for the nice comment! I found that the button is kind of touchy and you need to kind of use your finger nail and hit it twice pretty quickly in order for it to change modes. it’s kind of like double clicking a computer mouse you have to do it quickly enough.

      you are a genius - worked. Another question. My wife got her bike in 2021 during pandemic supply chain nightmares. Battery dies about 2X faster than expected. Yesterday I was charging it with a portable battery back I usually carry for my cellphone on long bike trips (i.e. multi-day) . It worked pretty well. Have you ever done that? P.S. - because of your video I also discovered the wireless unit already installed that no one told us was there - awesome.

      @@garymdmd I noticed that my Di2 battery drains much faster when I have the wireless transmitter paired with my Wahoo head unit.
      I have pretty much stopped using the wireless unit (by unpairing) and my Di2 battery lasts much longer.
      Only now use the wireless during maintenance, etc.

    Huge issue - I have a Specialized Tarmac. The junction box is on the stem of my bike seat. But when I reach to move the shifter to check the battery light- I can’t see it. My arms are not long enough. Who designed this thing?

    Do you still need the wireless unit with the Ultegra 8100 groupset?

    • @davescycling
      @davescycling  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Morris, I will look into it further but my understanding is that none of the DI2 group sets come with the wireless unit so you need to purchase it separately and get it installed or install it yourself.

    Hey Dave.
    Do you have a video how to connect di2 to Wahoo.
    I have the new ultegra 12 speed but I don’t know how to connect. 👍🏼

    • @davescycling
      @davescycling  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Slide, Thanks for the question! I am working on a video for that, but you will need the wireless unit which does not typically come with any of the DI2 bikes or group sets. Once the wireless unit is installed, your wahoo unit will pick it up and you can add it as a device.

    • @davescycling
      @davescycling  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Slade, yes, I stand corrected. I see the new one has wireless shifting as well. I will need to do some research to see if the Wahoo is compatible with the new one and id it connects the same way as mine.

    I was updating the firmware wirelessly on my EW-WU111 unit but the update failed. Now it’s stuck in dfu mode. The shifters won’t operate nor will the bar end junction? I have tried connecting to my pc to use the E-TUBE app but it will not recognize the components. Any idea how to bring it back?

    What are those 3 modes and how do they assist the rider. Or what’s it’s purpose?

    • @davescycling
      @davescycling  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the question! I am actually working on a video to show just that! It should be out in the next week or so. Basically, manual shift mode is just regular shifting where you control all the shifts yourself. Semi synchronous shift mode will shift your rear derailleur automatically when you shift your front derailleur, and full synchronous mode will shift your front and rear derailers as you shift your rear derailleur. The shifts are made to compensate for the relatively large ratio change when you jump from your large front chain ring to your small front chain ring. It is rather ingenious and my video will show and explain how it all works.

  • @popitn2nd

    How does semi and full synchro ship? I believe manual is just regular ship.

    • @davescycling
      @davescycling  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the question! Yes, manual is regular shifting. You have full control over all front and rear shifts. Semi-synchro will shift the rear derailleur automatically one or two sprockets (you can configure) when you shift the front derailleur. Full synchro will shift the front AND rear derailleurs (also configurable) when you shift the rear to a specific sprocket. The idea is to prevent big jumps in gear ratios.
      Semi-synchro example; you are about to go up a small hill so you shift the front derailleur to the small chainring, but that results in a big gear ratio change and now you are pedaling way too fast. so you upshift the rear derailleur a gear or two to compensate. with Semi-synchro, the Di2 does the compensating for you!
      It's pretty cool.

    I think you need to say thatr this is for the disc brake version and not rim brakes that do not have wireless.

    • @davescycling
      @davescycling  ปีที่แล้ว

      Wireless is an option on Di2 systems, and up until the 12 speed came out it had to be added. You do not need wireless to check the battery so long as you have the junction box with the lights on it.

    How come you often see people saying that "blinking red" is 25 to 50% battery and "solid red" is 0 to 25%. You're saying the opposite. Wich one is true ?

    • @davescycling
      @davescycling  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Matthias, thanks for watching the video and leaving a question!! Hopefully, you will never need to find out what the red battery light really means because you will keep yours charged, lol! However, to your question, I have double checked again and several sources including Shimano indicate that a solid red is 25 to 50% and flashing red is between one and 25% battery level of charge.

    • @Thiaspeed
      @Thiaspeed 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davescycling Well tanks a lot for your answer. I'm currently away from home for the whole week and I forgot to check the battery status before leaving and of course the solid red light is now on (and of course I forgot the charger at home). So according to you, I should be still abble to ride this week (I intend to ride 3 times 50k until friday and then I'll be abble to charge my Di2).

    • @davescycling
      @davescycling  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mathias, Sorry you are in that predicament! In case you did not know, when the battery gets really low the front derailer will stop working in order to conserve the battery. This will keep the rear derailer working as long as possible. Also, I once had my DI2 completely dead, but it charged up enough to use pretty quickly. I don’t know if you are near a bike shop that could maybe give you 30 minutes of charge which will help you get by. Good luck on your rides!

    Why buy an expensive, lightweight carbon road bike when you use it to haul tons of heavy electronic devices?

    • @davescycling
      @davescycling  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Einund, thanks for the comment! I appreciate you watching my video. That is a legit question. I don’t get too wrapped up in the weight of the bike. I’m 215 lbs so another pound or 2 doesn’t seem to be a big deal. I love the tech and primarily bought the bike for the Di2 shifters, carbon frame and Trek quality. My buddies give me a hard time as well, as I kick their butts on a sprint!
