There’s so much more going on behind the scenes than most people realize😲😲😲and your deep dive into the less obvious ranking factors really opened my eyes.
It's interesting to note that while Google denies certain ranking factors, these leaks hint at the possibility of user behavior metrics playing a bigger role. -Consider revisiting your CTR and bounce rate, as these may be more impactful than we previously thought. -Page load times and mobile optimization could also hold more weight than Google's official stance suggests.
Great video as always! Sam Oh's explanations are top-notch as usual. Nice to see Patrick Stox featured too - maybe he'll start taking me seriously now about those CTR experiments I mentioned 😉 Keep up the awesome content!
ahrefs is amazingly useful even if you are not an SEO. I haven't done SEO for over a decade but still use ahrefs all the time! The site crawl is awesome.
This is the kind of content that should monopolize the entire Internet. The only thing missing was a mug lowered to the floor like in the iconic scene from the movie The Usual Suspects.
I believe that user experience is the best signal for Google: when someone visits your site, what do they do? Do they seem to like it? With only a bunch of backlinks, but an obviously good user experience, my site articles have been steadily rising in the SERP's. And for the sandbox, if there's such a thing, I was in there for only a few weeks. So, focusing on the user's experience, offering them quality content, is what I believe in and will keep doing.
Google make no sense. Most of the times i stay on a page to read the info taking some time and then discover that wanst the info i was looking for... and i can even get away to do other things without going back to search results. That doesnt make that site good.
The core reason for the lie is simple: A machine cannot detect quality any more than it can smell a rose. The entire thing is based on artifice. It's a fugazi. Quality is not a ranking signal. So they created an environment in which quality, in and of itself, fails and people are required to game the system in order to rank. And then they tell you not to game the system. The whole thing is a heist. The internet used to be good, pre Google. It used to be a place where everyone had a chance and where people DID actually link in order to recommend things. Since Google, the majority of the links are there to build rank, not to send people to actually good stuff. And those with the biggest budgets can build links faster than anyone else can catch up. Their fundamental dishonesty, the "great lie" at the core of their existence, might have made them rich but it's arguably made the internet into a cesspit of bad information, produced not to help people but to get clicks.
Google wants watch time and profits / ad impressions. If they know what you're likely to click they'll bury the best links, instead, so you don't quickly leave their site to never return (for the same search).
What @Jasmine-mi4hu said is the core of it. Do that. But quality backlinks sure as heck don't hurt. Here's a simple version of how I see SEO-informed content production: 1. Make good sh*t. Use the tools at your disposal (KW tools, ICP interviews, personal expertise, additional SMEs) to create solid, consistent work that'll benefit your target audience. This is the engine of your site - keep it running while you do everything else. If you run out of topics, mine for more. Just keep the engine running. 2. Be patient. I don't know much about the sandbox, but my experience starting and running a corporate finance domain over the last 1.5yrs makes me believe it. Despite consistent production, I spent my first 5 months not really ranking for anything - then, suddenly, I did. And I've continued to rank. Unless you can afford to just wait this part out, other marketing channels (social, paid) are extremely important. In fact, after having a single guest post pop due to the author sharing it on social, I started to see my traffic rise and consistently hold at higher levels. 3. Focus on your own EEAT. While you wait for Google to like your pages, try to get it to like you. Write guest posts on reputable industry sites. Share your thoughts in the (indexable) places people are talking about the topic. Do your own PR. 4. Once you see signs of life in your rankings, support the content you've made - backlinks, content distribution, etc. 5. Keep your content updated as the topic/industry evolves. Never stop talking to your ICP and getting their honest thoughts on what you've made. Stay updated on changes in SEO-land. You'll almost always have to combine ICP feedback with SEO best practices (yes, I know you know what accounting software means, but Google likes when pages define it), so be sure to keep the balance in mind.

How does the search algorithm know exactly what I am looking for, and yet does not show it to me in the top results? Even if I type the exact name of a video on YT or I just saw a glimpse of something just as I clicked something else, when I click back to find that specific video I will never find it without wasting a lot of time, but I will find everything else I saw. how are they reading my mind, for the past 20 years I knew something is going on. I wish you'd do a Video on this topic I've mention.
