Since I know these are pre recorded at least one week in advance. Here is an info about this event when the manga was released. At that time, the "big 3" was super hot, Naruto, Bleach and One Piece. So there was always a lot of competition and talks about what was the best series and a HUGE criticism/joke about One Piece was that OP just "too childish" and "nobody dies unless it is on a flashback", it was kinda true. So NOBODY, NOBODY was expecting an actual death of an important character, so when this happened, everyone went in shock. It was like a big middle finger from Oda, "oh so I don't kill anyone?"

Akainu is one of the most hated characters in the series. He did order the evacuation ship at Ohara destroyed, killing innocent people. One thing about logias regardless of what we know about haki.. think about how the fruit works… your body becomes the element therefore if the element get’s “hurt” the user would get hurt because they are the element itself…
So let’s take Luffy vs Enel for instance, luffy rubber body was the direct counter to enel electricity, therefore if enel expands his body through electricity all that electricity is part of his body, so if luffy hits ANY part of the electricity it damages enel because that whole area is Enel!
Unless the logia user separates the attack from his body like a projectile, any part of the element attached to them is their body

In order to protect Luffy, Ace couldnt be intangible. Even without Akainu's magma being able to damage Ace's fire body by default. Ace would have been hurt regardless since he was shielding Luffy.

my though from years ago why akainu can pierce ace's body :
1. ace is protecting luffy, so if he change his body into fire and make akainu's punch go through his body, then luffy will be burn to death
2. akainu's haki is more powerful than ace's haki, ace is still young and he doesn't have much time to train with other commanders because he went looking for kurohige
Keep it simple if u have haki, even logia is activated they gonna get the damage, but good logia user like akainu and other people in future can manipulate logia by changing their form, so haki dont actually hit them, but it need Precision.

Since I know these are pre recorded at least one week in advance. Here is an info about this event when the manga was released. At that time, the "big 3" was super hot, Naruto, Bleach and One Piece. So there was always a lot of competition and talks about what was the best series and a HUGE criticism/joke about One Piece was that OP just "too childish" and "nobody dies unless it is on a flashback", it was kinda true. So NOBODY, NOBODY was expecting an actual death of an important character, so when this happened, everyone went in shock. It was like a big middle finger from Oda, "oh so I don't kill anyone?"
Lava is a natural counter to the flame flame fruit the same way rubber is enel's counter. Akainu actually burned his physical body cause their fruits are natural enemies

Ace had to take the hit to save his brother. He jumped in front of the punch for the sole purpose of stopping it. Logia would have been pointless.
Akainu is one of the most hated characters in the series. He did order the evacuation ship at Ohara destroyed, killing innocent people. He believes that his way is the right way and that justifies any action on his part to enact "justice". Given the power and position he holds, it's a recipe for evil in the extreme.

actually marco cant use his flames to damage his opponents because it has healing properties and it ends up healing them not hurting them, theres this one scene in this arc that he turned into a phoenix when he got close to kizaru and he kicked him instead
