    Hi everyone!
    I remember this as "R.i.P" because you have combusted!
    Therefore Combustion= Reactants-Products

    This is how I remember it
    Fat = People - Run
    Formation = Product - Reactant
    -->(Combustion is the other way round)
    Combustion = Recatant - Product

    Do all three equations in any hess cycle have to be balanced, because in this cycle the oxygen atoms are not balanced?

    Would there ever be a time when you absolutely need to use a cycle? Can’t you just do it the usual way, reactants-products or products-reactants?

  • @hibar4852

    dont you add oxygen to the reactants and the products side?

    Where did that oxygen atoms come from in the first example

    • @jsbaasi
      @jsbaasi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In your system that you're imagining, you're using enthalpy changes for *combustion*. Therefore you need to combust all the reactants and the products, and when you burn something, it basically reacts with oxygen don't it? (Ik this is super late but forcing myself to think )

  • @umar757
    @umar757 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is the enthalpy change you're finding out the 'enthalpy change of reaction' ?
    But isn't the first example just the 'enthalpy change of formation'?

    • @MaChemGuy
      @MaChemGuy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed but it is also a reaction

  • @EpicEditsBySaz
    @EpicEditsBySaz 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do we have to use cycles in the exam? Or could we just still to C=R-P and F=P-R?
    Please replay *ASAP* as the exam is in a few days! Thanks.

    • @MaChemGuy
      @MaChemGuy  10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can always get away with Cr-p etc to calculate delta H but sometimes you do have to make sense of supplied cycle or add missing data to one then use it to calculate delta H. I always make sure my students can use them.

    • @romanianqueen3746
      @romanianqueen3746 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi! Sorry but what do you mean by having to add missing data ? I am terribly confused. Could you please give me an example where you have to use cycles?? Thanks and please , please , please reply !!!!! PLEASE !

  • @possiblyunmatched1323
    @possiblyunmatched1323 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can you not just do this without drawing out the whole cycle? Or is there a reason to it. I simple just do reactants - products for combustion and products - reacts for formation.
