I was already hurt and limping following a hit & run as I biked when I was attacked in public while waiting for a bus. The walls caved in and I ended up homeless. I'm trying to bust out of homelessness. A friend has given me a safe rural place to live. I just got food stamps. This channel inspires me to do the best I can with what I've got and to know I'm not alone.

@@MaryanneN_ I'm not alone. It can and does routinely happen to anyone. It is very difficult to write reality as it is in these times. I have abandoned the city I lived in and the residents living in denial about the state of things. So many of the homeless, like myself, are actually physically hurt and disabled from what's going on.
We are all responsible to make the best of what we have and if you expect the high minded among us to be helpful when their ideals lead to widespread problems, think again.
This channel is for real people with real life problems and the budgets to prove it I figure it's a good one to support. I'm actually just leaving a Dollar Tree. I had the thought today that it'd be a smart idea to include condiments in finished product videos. I love the spicy fermented pepper sauce in a nice glass jar imported from Turkey. The name might keep this comment from appearing. It'd look great next to most meals.

Yessss this is why I love your channel. Growing up in poverty you do NOT have a Costco membership unless /sometimes/ you have a big family in a city that offers it, and even then there are a lot of factors that make bulk buying inaccessible. People working 16 hours a day at a minimum wage service job do NOT want a 2-hour prep meal. Making cheap, actually accessible food means that you are inevitably sacrificing on the highest quality time, effort, and money, and that is OKAY. That is the reality of poverty and the way we choose to survive through it should not make us feel embarrassed.

I love how you consider the REALITY of life for people. When people used to tell me to buy bulk (when I was struggling) I used to ask HOW? Usually bulk items are a deal because you're buying in volume, so the price per items is cheaper, but overall the entire bulk item will be cheaper. For example, if I have $5 I might have to buy a fruit, a veg, a drink, and one protien. If 10 veg are on sale for $5... how do I get the rest of my food?

I am very happy I found you today. I am all about a budget as I have 3 teenage boys and they need to eat. Me, mom has lost a lot of weight so I just don’t eat much anymore.

Thank you for mentioning small spaces and storage. Where I live, I share the fridge with others. Friends ask why I don't buy large food items because they are cheaper than the smaller items I usually get. I tell them I buy smaller items because I need as much space in the fridge as possible (to make room for other items). Also, I know someone who doesn't have kitchen access where he lives, so he eats out daily. People say it's expensive to eat like that, but the rent without kitchen access is in his budget. Rent with kitchen access is not in his budget. Many people can't fathom limited fridge space / no kitchen access. People who shop at the more expensive stores aren't wasting money. They are going to the stores closest to them because they may not have cars. I am encouraged to see that you mentioned all this because you got it right 👍🏼 Thank you for representing us who don't live like others do!

Transportation is a huge factor thats often over looked on these kinds of budget meal prep or budget grocery haul videos. I find that most of these youtubers have vehicles and generally decent access to multiple grocery stores locally so i really appreciate that this channel takes transportation and acces into account. Grocery delivery is very expensive and it cuts into a big part of your actual shopping budget so if theres a convenience store or dollar store available in closer proximity, this is a great channel to come up with some things on the fly if youre in a pickle. Its also great if youre a college student living on a limited budget with limited store options. One of the colleges i attended was in a small town and there was only one grocery store miles away and no public transportation. So if the dining hall wasnt open, i wasnt eating lol . Had i watched something like this back then, i might have been able to do something creative with what was available at the local drug store instead of just buying ramen all the time

After living in hotels for a while, and also needing to move around so much when I was forced to, having a large amount of food just isn’t an option. Most of my “move days” were spent lugging my excess food around if I had to change hotels or rental units. I almost cried when my new landlord said I could put whatever I want in his spare room or garage 😂

Your ideas work perfectly for me, because I'm single, disabled, and living in a studio apartment with a small fridge. I can't drive because I'm legally blind, so I have to bring my groceries home on the bus. A lot of channels make large batches and want you to buy in bulk, which don't work for me. But your recipes and shopping plans are the perfect amount for a single person. Most of them are easy too, which I need because I can't make long complicated recipes anymore now that I'm disabled. I appreciate your thoughtfulness.

I seek out tasty cheap filling meals too. One pot, one skillet, or put things on sheet pans & roast.
I cook about 3-4 nights each week & most of that is mid level of difficulty. One meal is simple, with the rest of the week having any available leftovers. 💖🍲
