I speed ran Sonic 2 back when it was current, 30 years ago! Never even got close to the times you guys are achieving now. That people are still pushing the boundaries of this game 30 years later is amazing to me.
It was my first game I ever got as a child. On Christmas with a megadrive 2. Only other games I ever got were Spiderman and columns. I'm still proud of my sub 10 yeas old, sub 1hr pb.
I can see small increments from better coordination and gameplay. But the last real major barrier to even far lower times would be to figure out how to break Sky Chase Zone. It's autoscrolled and lasts almost 2 whole minutes with not much to do to save time. Maybe like a screen wrap glitch like with Metropolis Zone by going too fast on the level's/scrolling's boundaries, or manipulating that sliding behavior glitch with the tornado plane (where Sonic can fall off and die) and somehow breakout of the autoscroll box. Or ACE to stop the autoscroll, idk
I remember playing this on my/the family genesis when I was about 3 years old. I remember struggling to play the game and it being a big deal when I finally reached Chemical Plant zone. Knowing my past experiences with this game, it’s soothing to the heart to see such mastery over the game mechanics. I’ve always wanted to see Sonic go fast, and you absolutely nailed it. Very, very impressive.
would love to see a commentary to explain some of the stuff that’s going on here, the pauses, glitches, and just general things that are happening in the run. Not super in depth explanations needed… sweet run
I have been watching this run since Mike89 got the 14:58. I thought there was no way anyone would beat that time. Then I watched in awe as SuperBoomFan beat that by a minute with his 13:59. I swore this run had died with that time. When i first noticed you pop up, I didn't think too much of you... but then I saw you quickly get good, then inch by inch, you got a 13:52... an obscene time. Eandis shows up and I also don't think much of him... but he quickly also gets great times and gets the WR. I thought... oh well you know... I guess this a cycle, and eandis will get replaced in a few months. But you came back. You didn't just come back... you went for shit not thought possible rta, and you found faster strats. You're play was better than Eandis. This run only proves one thing... It should be you. Kill this category. Get the 12:xx. Show them who the best really is.

i understand the pausing, because it is part of the set up for a lot of tricks, but it feels weird in a game that is timed by in game time, that pauses when you pause. feels like pause time should be included somehow
actually it absolutely should be included since faster pause buffering is very much part of the skill in most speedrun games. they should use in game time and make runners add on all pause times. it would suck to time that frame by frame but it would make the times much more accurate
it didn't for me. I was watching the ending of CP1 with the audio track from EH1 and 2. It only synced back up when EH boss started and the vid jumped back
If you think about it.....the only arguable thing about speedrunning not technically being the definition of insanity. Is the time it takes to get done....... If it wasn't for that one particular element, it would be textbook insanity. Lol
I believe i have the euro pal record for completing first level in 21 seconds. Unless anyone knows better? I have vid on my channel from Games World 1993 as proof.
Why is the game always paused? It's impossible to get pleasure of watching it. Where would be better to see the game without stops. Even with the larger time of speedrun.
This is called pause buffering, it pauses the game to make doing the tricks easier (it doesn’t loose time cuz he times his run by using in game time and the timer pauses when game pauses
Did you even watch your own video? Every 10 seconds it lags like I'm streaming with a 56k modem. It's unwatchable. I didn't intend to criticize your gameplay but your video editing or compression. Don't know why it lags so much.
