    Awesome video. I've been using the Powerflex and it's been amazing! Hope you make a trip to SoCal one of these days to surf. You can borrow my Apex at San Onofre.

      So I have not used the power flex. Could you let the audience know what your feeling between the two

      @@surfcraftunion Hi so the Sub Fin has a lot wider base than the Powerflex I find that the sub holds you in for more trim down the Line straight line with the Apex. This fin also works well in my sprout which it is more suited for in my opinion.The Powerflex has a smaller base overall thickness which works well with the Apex allowing that squared of tail to free up allowing more turns and freedom to move the board. You can still nose ride and hold but it definitely has a looser feel that when running with the Sub Skinner Fin.

      @@philfootie I just got a sprout and have ridden the seemonster 10 inch fin. It’s been really rad but now want to try the Sun in it too

    Have you tried any narrower base - minimum rake fins with the Apex? Maybe I’m heading in the wrong fin direction with my 9’6, but the one wider base fin I tried (10.5” NVS Ola) was way too locked in and difficult to swing around. Moving it more forward didn’t help much. I’m willing to sacrifice some nose time for the free carves.

      I have not but the involvement fin by FD might be insane.

    Would be interested to get your thoughts on how the 9’1 Apex rides with the 10” or 10.5” Sallas Spiral and the 10” Waxhead fin.

      So actually although a different board I ran the waxhead fin and the Kani fin in the Mango Jam in 9’0. Similarities in both boards are hard edge in the rail and a shorter length log. But a lot of difference in bottom and rails. But I did find that I liked the waxhead fin more because I liked it being a stiffer fin with the hard edge. The kani and the Spiral both are a little more flex then the waxhead. That review will be coming out in September I believe. But maybe sooner.

    Really great video. Appreciate the time you put in to share your experience with various fins! Helpful feedback (hopefully): Consider lowering the music volume a touch while you’re sharing your nuggets of wisdom with us. It’s a bit distracting. 🤙🏾

      Love feed back and I appreciate you digging it. Will scale down the music on the next one.

    Yeah thanks that’s helpful. I’m looking at the 9’6”, but our waves are really soft, low energy and although 170lbs not a heavy footed surfer, do you think I’d still need to go above the 10” version?

    • @surfcraftunion
      @surfcraftunion  ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe try the 10.5. As I said the 10 felt rippy with nose hold

      I’m running the 10” sub with my 9’6 now and really noticed the liveliness vs the power flex and evolution. I’m still able to get to the nose in the right spot. It’s just well balanced

      Hey great to hear. I ended up returning the Farberow flex fin (it was a really bad fit for my fin box - too loose). I’ve been mostly using a 10” Sallas x Kelis which apart from looking really stunning in teal, is a great nose riding fin, lots of drive with its medium base, and still whippy when time to turn. When the waves permit, I’ll try the Sub 10 again. Thanks for the update.

    niceee!!! I currently use 10'' power flex with my 9'6 Apex, do you think I need to try with the 11''' ben skinner sub? will it make a big differennce? this video made me want to try it so bad hahaha

    • @surfcraftunion
      @surfcraftunion  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So I have not tried the power flex in my apex yet. Actually it might be one of the only fins I don’t have by FD. I wanted to try the Sub because it’s something different then what is advertised for the Apex. Obviously mostly advertised for this board is the Power Flex. I again really like the sub fin in my apex and do think that depending on how much wider the tail is might make you want to ride that fin bigger. Also your personal surfing. I am 140 pounds and can whip the apex around well with the 10 inch version.

      I recently picked up a 9’6 Apex and am now playing around with fins. I’m curious what your experience is with the Power Flex? I tried an NVS 10.5 Ola Apex and found extremely difficult to turn quickly. Could be that I’m alight weight at 150lbs. Anyway, I switched up to a 9.0 Fins Unlimited Dale Dobson and so far only tried it on a small choppy day, but seems more to what I’m after. This differs from the Ola with much less rake and base (only 5.5”). Probably going to pickup a 9.5 or 10” Dobson next.
