His build is a different approach than mine but still good although he's taken a write up versus video tutorial. Wasn't trying to use his template without permission. He stated in the article he found on the internet and wasn't sure where he got it from so its a bit of a mystery, but it works for the top of the hilt. I've seen it repinned all over Pintrest but can't find the original site. But now I'll search a bit more for the originator to ensure whoever sketched it out gets credited. I'm certainly NOT about stealing other people's hard work since I've had it happen to me already on several occasions without attribution. John, glad you liked it. Thanks for taking time to leave a comment. I'm finishing up my Darth Vader lightsaber, planning to post it this weekend... Stay tuned.
The proper name for that lightsaber would be "Anakin's Skywalker's 2nd Lightsaber", not Luke's, not Rey's and not Anakin's first which was destroyed on Geonosis.
Make It or Break It it’s all of theirs, legally speaking it would be inherited since anakin is dead, even when Luke fights him, Darth Vader himself said he does not accept the lightsaber in a comic, because he’s not anakin, he “killed” anakin. It was lost and ended up with maz, who gave it as a gift to Rey, gifting is a transferring of ownership, don’t listen to all these people trying to nitpick details, cuz theyre wrong lol
JakeFranklin well this design is unique to rey. Only in the new movies does the saber have one red button with a glass eye and screws in the grips. Completely different in the original trilogy. So It is correct to refer to this configuration as Rey's.
Really great build. Everyone not using a graflex seems to struggle on the "bunny ears" bit, but I'd say your approach yields the best results outside of buying a gralfex

The only thing that ever bugs me about these builds is that they always say the bottom part, the grips, were made originally form windshield wiper blades. They were actually originally made from black t-track that is used for sliding drawers. If they had been made from wiper blades, sure it would be comfortable but it would wear out quickly from extended use. The t-track is much more sturdy.
Joshua Javens, thanks for the feedback. Very true. I'm not sure the T tracks would be comfortable either. These grips are. I've been to quite a few stores and haven't been able to find the t-tracks. If you have a good source it would be much appreciated.
@@MakeItorBreakItNow I can't think of any good sources off the top of my head beyond looking online somewhere. My only suggestion if you were to go that route though is maybe grind down the top parts of the t-track that stick out against your hand. It'll be slightly less accurate but I think it would be a bit more comfortable.

Robert Allen Wilson, I got mine at home depot and at a discount of $3 so I bought the 5 they had at that price, plan to make the new Ey light saber soon. Lowes or any store with a range of plumbing should have these. Also try your local habitat for humanity where I walked away with several for about $1 a piece.
Make It or Break It Well that's a shame. You could probably make a good business by making these. Especially if it only cost 25 to 30 dollars to make. Either way really enjoyed your video
Descent build, you messed up on a few details. I imagine that is because you are modeling it after a toy, but unless you show to a super fan no one should notice. Again it’s a solid build.
Alex Hansen, thanks for the feedback. It's based on pictures, sketches, and a toy. There seemed to be subtle differences between each of the movies, this version is a best attempt. I'm working on the new version, ideally it will come out prior to the movie. Stay tuned.
jx592, agree it might be shorter in the movie, but not by much. Luke's big hands can make it look smaller than it is. Not sure how big Daisy Ridley's hands are.
In Empire I'm fairly certain they used a different stunt saber that looked more like Anakin's Attack of the Clones lightsaber, and was later reused for Darth Vader's in Return of the Jedi.
Alfigri, the materials you'll need are presented in the videos. But since you asked I'll see about putting together a parts list so you can take it with you to the store or when shopping online. Should have one available soon.
Everyone that says this is not rey's lightsaber is wrong. She got it in the force awakens and uses it in the last jedi.It became the lightsaber she trained with when she started training with luke.
I wouldn't jump to conclusions. Rey declined Maz's offer of the lightsaber, and then Finn happily took it instead. Then when Finn gets Kylo Ren's lightsaber right up his back, she pretty much takes it, wins somehow, and that's it. She's borrowing it from Finn technically.
Good catch. I wanted this to be a simpler version that most people would feel comfortable making. I'm working on a ESB version which will be much more detailed. Video should be out soon.
TyMatthews 1000, unfortunately the templates I used are no longer online. I'm planning to rebuild this lightsaber based on the newest version that will be coming out in December and will plan to post those versions with that video.
MrCowlick, the light saber hilts and all the props I make are based on several references, a lot of photograghs, and even dimensional drawings. The toys are just helpful to see what key details the designers leave in, so as a builder you want to make sure to include those in the final construction. Thanks for your comment.
So, was it Maz Katana's (or whatever her name was) lightsaber, just because she had it far a while? No. this is no ones lightsaber as it was changed for these films and before long, more people will not take these films as canon. Also, @Make It or Break It I would probably use pictures of a prop instead of a cheap toy if you want acuracy.
Why do you all keep correcting him, saying that it's not Rey's? We all know. If you all wanna get technical, it is Rey's now. Anakin is dead, Luke shit canned it over his shoulder, so.... I guess that means it's Rey's now.
Only because she uses it doesn't mean it's hers, it's Anakin's, he made it. It belongs to her now, but it is still Anakin's. You don't say that your grandmother's socks she had sown for you is yours, don't you?
Really we should be calling it the Graflex not anyone's in particular unless its set up specifically for that movie. For example I'm building a Flashgun 5 from Roman Props which is Luke's from ESB
for 25 bucks, this isnt bad. If you have a better budget, check out romanprops.com. They make beautiful replicas of the original parts used to make these props. If you have a wonderfully massive budget, go on ebay and search for a Vintage Graflex 3 Cell flashgun. Thats what the original prop was made from. Other options include the Korbanth Graflex 2.5 saber kit, the Graflex Shop 3 Cell replica, the 89 sabers Graflex, JQ sabers Stainless Steel Graflex, Parks Graflex ESB, the list goes on. If you want a replica of this prop, this is not the end all be all. If you found this video looking for the cheapest replica possible, this works as that. If you are in search of a good replica and just have no idea where to look, Google "Graflex 3 Cell Flashgun"
Thats true but considering this is barely classifiable as a close approximation i figured id note some of the other things available since the informed buyers of the saber community are rarely the ones that go on youtube to look for home depot builds. These were how I took my first steps into the saber hobby and if I had known about options like what I now own when I was looking around for these i wouldnt have spent 2 years building these and never being happy with the results. So while they arent likely looking for the end all be all in this video in particular, its the first step into a much larger hobby
Honing one's creative skills on the cheap can save a lot of costly mistakes when moving on to pricier, more accurate builds. You may look back on the time you spent with projects like these as time wasted, but I'm sure you learned *something* from the experience. These are good starter projects for people who are just getting into the hobby, or those who don't have thousands to put into high end building. Which I think is what most people watching $25 builds are probably looking for.
Its not Rey ´s lightsaber Its not Luke ´s lightsaber Not even Anakin ´s lightsaber Its general grievouses lightsaber because it made a fine addition to his collection.
Charm, agreed. I have another updated version I'm working on, but want to wait on finishing the new lightsaber until I see what Rey has in IX. Thanks for the comment.

Correction: Anakin's lightsaber
Before it belonged to Luke.... it was a photographer's flash bulb. ;)
Brandon Griffin it belonged to a Anakin first
Kaden tswm It was a joke, the Original light saber was made from a cell 3 graflex flash off of a camera.
Good job bro, finally someone who is smart!

In fact, it belonged to Luke before Anakin!

@@MakeItorBreakItNow I am in the process of making the anakin saber but without the template it is difficult for me, do you have any ideas?
Would you do commisions?
Miles Away, thanks for the offer, but I'm not taking commissions at this time.
Where can I get the link to the files?
Where did you get the front template??
go to switz.tripod.com/saber3.html then scroll down to the blue template and click. It should come up for you there. If anyone finds out who the person is please leave a comment so I can follow up and give credit where it is deserved.

Aniken’s lightsaber 🅱️🅾️ℹ️
I don't care what anyone says, 5his is Anakin's lightsaber, which Obi-Wan passed to Luke. Then Rey found it and borrowed it.
Mike Uchman, thanks for the comment and feedback. accepted.
It'll be slightly less accurate but I think it would be a bit more comfortable.
or you can cheat a bit and go here: www.ebay.com/i/302943873437?chn=ps&var=601866354740&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&itemid=601866354740_302943873437&targetid=857478420934&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9005685&campaignid=6470474296&mkgroupid=76413868734&rlsatarget=aud-622524040958:pla-857478420934&abcId=1140476&merchantid=6296724&gclid=Cj0KCQiA7OnxBRCNARIsAIW53B8XmszjZXCixChCRXH0eY0MN-pCVWpwK00p68A9fSKgyKMkqpIVX0saAiiEEALw_wcB
@@joshuajavens1816 , interesting. I might consider something like that next time.
Grips were never windshield wiper blades....plastic T track for sliding cabinet doors was used in the original prop.
Jason J. you are correct. I've found the floor mats easier to find than the T track. And its more comfortable when dueling.
The problem with the T-tracks is that you have to find plastic T-track, which really means you have to slaughter drawers for it.
@@commscan314 absolutely right.
I ended just ordering replicas from wannawanga.com.
Can you put a blade on it?

for the gold bars go find an old game cartridge at a goodwill or savers take it apart and cut off the part that inserts into the console
thanks for the suggestion, I'll keep a lookout for the old game cartridges.
Or find old PC cards, preferably IDE.
Where did u get the print outs
Unfortunately the site is no longer active. I've since found with some paper and a little bit of trial and error you can usually get pretty close.
Nice. I might try this but with real Graflex parts. The ears were a bit too big looking for my liking :P
Joshua, thanks for the comment and good luck. Graflex parts can be hard to come by do you have them already?
Alinimum, all kidding man great build
neon deluxe, thanks for the positive feedback. Working on a Darth Vader lightsaber now
@@MakeItorBreakItNow Oh awesome! Can't wait
Where did u get the pipe
Robert Allen Wilson, I got mine at home depot and at a discount of $3 so I bought the 5 they had at that price, plan to make the new Ey light saber soon. Lowes or any store with a range of plumbing should have these. Also try your local habitat for humanity where I walked away with several for about $1 a piece.
Make count duko’s lightsaber
Hansa, thanks for the feedback and recommendation, I'll add it to the list, working on Darth Vader's right now.
I unfortunately am not skilled enough or confident enough to even attempt this. I would gladly pay you to make me one of these.
MrSupersonic2012,thanks for the offer but I'm not making these for sale.
Make It or Break It Well that's a shame. You could probably make a good business by making these. Especially if it only cost 25 to 30 dollars to make. Either way really enjoyed your video
thanks MrSupersonic2012
Descent build, you messed up on a few details. I imagine that is because you are modeling it after a toy, but unless you show to a super fan no one should notice. Again it’s a solid build.
Alex Hansen, thanks for the feedback. It's based on pictures, sketches, and a toy. There seemed to be subtle differences between each of the movies, this version is a best attempt. I'm working on the new version, ideally it will come out prior to the movie. Stay tuned.
I have a better way: buy a cheap toy version and either repaint it or get aluminum foil tape on go over all the grey parts with it
Real Bob Ross, thanks for the comment, if you make one using your approach, send me a picture I'd be interested to see how it turns out.
I mean tbh, the toy ones aren't as accurate
@@jakyoso I agree with your thought here, plus the plastic versions are too light, they don't feel the same when you pick them up.
yes, this smells like Anakin Lightsaber
Something with the blade in the new one, it looks shorter. And even when Luke wields it, it is shorter
jx592, agree it might be shorter in the movie, but not by much. Luke's big hands can make it look smaller than it is. Not sure how big Daisy Ridley's hands are.
It's shorter than I expected😂
In Empire I'm fairly certain they used a different stunt saber that looked more like Anakin's Attack of the Clones lightsaber, and was later reused for Darth Vader's in Return of the Jedi.
What material do i need to build this lightsaber
Alfigri, the materials you'll need are presented in the videos. But since you asked I'll see about putting together a parts list so you can take it with you to the store or when shopping online. Should have one available soon.
Alfiqri, please see the parts and tools list now added to the top, "show more" comments section. Thanks again for the suggestion.
Everyone that says this is not rey's lightsaber is wrong. She got it in the force awakens and uses it in the last jedi.It became the lightsaber she trained with when she started training with luke.
@PhoneHacker100 You need a gap after punctuation. That is why you have a link in your text. Thank you.
" How to make Luke's Return of the Jedi lightsaber"
TheOneTheOnly W that's definately not the ROTJ saber. it's the new hope saber.
Kyle Carter It’s not A new hope either. That clamp card isn’t on the ANH saber, only on the ESB saber.
I think that's a request for a video, but I'm not sure.
You forgot the rectangles that go next to the screw near the top
Good catch. I wanted this to be a simpler version that most people would feel comfortable making. I'm working on a ESB version which will be much more detailed. Video should be out soon.

Martin Hague it is
Martin Hague it is.
They never used windshield wipers for the movie props. Just saying.
Nice build tho.
Fern, agreed. Although many folks think they did.. Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.
Those black bumpers make it seem a little cumbersome and hard to hold....
Howard D. you might think so, but when I pick the hilt up it feels real. Like a weapon designed to do battle. Thanks for your comment.
Do you have templates?
TyMatthews 1000, unfortunately the templates I used are no longer online. I'm planning to rebuild this lightsaber based on the newest version that will be coming out in December and will plan to post those versions with that video.
@@MakeItorBreakItNow thank you.

check in the comments above, I posted one version that works, I modified a bit, not much.
Mike Meyers I don’t see a comment with the template on this video...
just posted, please see below.
Mike Meyers Thank you very much :D
Also, what is that metal L shaped pipe thing that you used for the hilt?
this dude based his replica on a hasbro toy for kids, the replica ended up looking more accurate lmao
MrCowlick, the light saber hilts and all the props I make are based on several references, a lot of photograghs, and even dimensional drawings. The toys are just helpful to see what key details the designers leave in, so as a builder you want to make sure to include those in the final construction. Thanks for your comment.
@@MakeItorBreakItNow oh no sir i don't build i just sit on my couch and get fat watching star wars videos 😂
So, was it Maz Katana's (or whatever her name was) lightsaber, just because she had it far a while? No. this is no ones lightsaber as it was changed for these films and before long, more people will not take these films as canon. Also, @Make It or Break It I would probably use pictures of a prop instead of a cheap toy if you want acuracy.
darthbuzz, thanks for the feedback. Your point of view is interesting.

ArrrrrrrraaaaAAR anakin anakin

Tobi, check most any big box store like Lowes or Home Depot. That's where I got mine.
Anakin's*
Why do you all keep correcting him, saying that it's not Rey's? We all know. If you all wanna get technical, it is Rey's now. Anakin is dead, Luke shit canned it over his shoulder, so.... I guess that means it's Rey's now.
The lightsaber is not canon. Anakin and Luke's look much different.
Well. It’s broken so.
Only because she uses it doesn't mean it's hers, it's Anakin's, he made it. It belongs to her now, but it is still Anakin's. You don't say that your grandmother's socks she had sown for you is yours, don't you?
It’s broke in half so it’s not like that matters now
Really we should be calling it the Graflex not anyone's in particular unless its set up specifically for that movie.
I doubt anyone clicks on a $25 home build video looking for "the end all be all."
Its not Rey ´s lightsaber
Its not Luke ´s lightsaber
Not even Anakin ´s lightsaber
Its general grievouses lightsaber because it made a fine addition to his collection.
Reigameru, thanks for your feedback. always welcome.
