Honestly one of the most incredible looking films ive seen in a bit, the textures on the foliage,clothes, books, dust filmed rooms, and dank streets, felt and looked amazing. Feast for the eyes.
And that is a bad change made good. I never though I would like an emotional Sherlock Holmes. But surprisingly they handled him pretty well in this movie.
But Millie Bobbi brown has to film Stranger Things too and we all know that the forth season it’s not going to be the last one so it would be complicated for her to be filming two series at a time
I love the fact that Enola and Sherlock we're starting to grow closer. I am a big fan of Sherlock Holmes movies and TV series and didn't know nothing about Enola Holmes so I really like this and how it was played out.
It does seem like they've chosen to alter the Sherlock character to make him more enjoyable and to set this up as a Caville/Brown franchise. It's a good choice. Everyone likes Sherlock, so it's smart to make him a likable character, whereas Mycroft is the character you love to hate. It was a very enjoyable movie, loved the cinematography. I hope the Marquess pops up from time to time in the future films.

A well-done film. A film that delivers a lot on it’s first entry; it definitely sets up for a franchise but doesn’t save everything for the sequels to draw it out like many other franchises.

Bruce Burns It's been a bit of time since I last read the series, but I do think that the 4th wall breaking was a lot more prevalent in the later novels compared to the first book. The movie does this a lot, but I think the books do not break the fourth wall as much, to the point where one might even forget that it occurred when reminiscing about the series.

The only writing I will count will be when Enola directly addresses the "gentle reader" to offer an explanation. Technically speaking since the books are written in the first person you could argue that Enola is always addressing the reader but that's taking it a bit far.
I'm a romantic so of course the romance between Enola and the Marquess is the best tweak they've done in this film. I hope to see more of them together in the future films or better yet just serve us a series please! :)
The only negative thing about that movie was how she was breaking the fourth wall, I couldn’t get involved in the storyline due to that, but the movie is actually good.
In the books, he has a disdain for all women with the exception of Irene Adler, who outsmarts him in “A Scandal in Bohemia”. He always refers to her as “That Woman”.

Loved the movie and how Enola brought out Sherlock's more caring side more and more through-out the movie in contrast to Mycroft who couldn't care less and was happy at the end to be rid of her..
I have mixed feelings about 'fan fiction' sequels. This looks like it could be fun but why, oh why, oh why, are there so many stories where the cool girl hates sewing? I'd have thought that when she was on the run it would have been handy for Enola to be able to sew up or at least repair her own clothes.
I would also add that the film worse fits in the original universe(ACD books). There are more mentions of dates in the Nancy Springer's books, it's 1880-s, and we know that Holmes very active in 1880-s. There are also some mentions of Watson in Springer's books(including even his abduction in third book), but there are no in the film, moreover, there are many phrases like "Holmes works alone", "You have no friends" in the film, but he is famous there, so it might be that there is no Watson in film's universe at all. However, I wouldn't say that both Enola film and books are good at showing us Holmes' character. But it is ok, it is the good fanfiction, and fanfiction shouldn't be a copy of original. What about Enola Holmes, it is a good and interesting film, and I'd like to watch the sequel💖 Millie did a fantastic job

My only issue is how the movies will work with the messed up timeline in the future....and if they decide to do the last book how they will address what happens to her mom. Or if that plot point will be completely removed and replaced with that weird radical suffrage plot. In the books, Enola meets Watson's wife....The issue with that is that Watson gets married in 1888 and the first movie had to take place earlier due to the Law Tewky had to help pass. Guess we will have to see.
Some points from the second book are put in the film, such as the meeting at the British museum and perhaps the garrotting attacker. I hope they bring in Cecily, even if Tewksbury fills some of her role as kindred spirit companion. The laugh when Ebola outwitted Sherlock could have been taken from a scene when she more soundly tricks him in the second book. It would be great if that were included in the next film, but it would make less sense if Sherlock isn’t still trying to trap her. Maybe she’ll do it to Mycroft instead.

I for one have somewhat got tired of the usual portrayal of Sherlock as an eccentric intellectual bully like Robert Downey Jr.'s version (Although that one is my favorite), or at worst the atrocious and godawful horrible "High functioning Sociopath" version of the BBC's Sherlock (Which is the worst version of Holmes put to film). While it's hard to see super swole Geralt of Rivia as Sherlock Holmes, I was pleasantly surprised. I haven't seen Millie Bobby Brown in anything before this so I was also very surprised as how greatly she carried this film.
You really shouldn't use the term 'gypsy' anymore. It's considered a slur to the Romani people and is an inaccurate name for them at best (it originated from the fact people through they came from Egypt, when in fact the Romani people were originally from India).
So let's alter history. That's what everyone knew them by in the age setting of the film. To me bought up in the west end int the 40s that what they were called.

Finding out the movie is greatly different from the book is not as disappointing now seeing how little the book characters had to emotionally connect to. this Enola is someone young girls can look up to and the reform voters rights bill plot is pretty good imo. This Enola gives young girls a good message to take their future in their hands and Sherlock has been played by many actors so Ofcourse they would try a different angle this time around. The movie was good but Cavill was not the right choice for Sherlock. He's too charming and handsome. Sherlock is more disinterested in polished looks and is more nerdy (for lack of a better word) looking.
I saw someone comment that they do like Cavill as Sherlock, and that they think the only situation Cavill's Sherlock would work would be in Enola Holmes, as this is a story about Enola, from her perspective, and she looks up to Sherlock as a charming hero rather than a nerdy anti-social guy
Styling yourself as "Sherlock Holmes" doesn't make you one, all the more so if you don't even try to stay close to the original character in any capacity. It's bad form, borrowing another's fame (but admitedly free, and so cheaper) to present a story you don't have any confidence would be good or well received on its own. Afraid that asimple "Enola, [new property] teenage free thinking detective" may not have stood on its own merit? May have failed badly without the power of a well established franchise to back it up and serve as a foil to glorify the new character in contrast? But it would have been more intelectualy and morally honest instead of a Netflix business calculated venture the like of wich we can find a dozen a dime. The movie may even be good but the discrepancies between the Sherlock Holmes portrayed there and the one I have fixed in my mind is putting me off... a shame, since I like the actors playing in it. (I just watched 12 minutes into it before feeling a need to dissipate the bad taste, and will go back dubbing the characters as Brit Big Bro 1 and Brit Big Bro 2 or 3B1 and 3B2 instead) *Edit: now, having calmed down and seen it, I'd say it was enjoyable: good cinematography, costumes,, awesome actors, some of whom are a bit wasted on too small a role like Helena Bonham Carter. But it was not nearly clever enough for a Holme's story, although still pretending to be (and their version of Holmes is good natured enough to take their attempt at belittling him with grace). But after dissmissing all about that Holme's business weighing me down; I can say: Enola found enough of a balance between clever and clumsy, militant and self conscious, to not feel like it was hammering (too) forcefully some of its ideas to the audience instead of letting them decide on their own by showing their point (rather than sometimes not so subtly telling it to you)... The ending proved that of either choices, making noise or making friends, the later will always be the better option, and I can wholefully get behind that. I was a bit afraid to see another woman's empowerment story wich morals would be that a strong woman should be the worst man she can be... wich is really an awfull and stupid idea. Being yourself is not a supposed to be a competition with others, but an inner struggle between your limitations vs your aspirations.

I love the choice to break the 4th wall! Makes it distinct from the other detective movies.

The beginning of this movie strongly reminded me of the Flavia deLuce novels of Alan Bradley. Books that I strongly recommend.

The book consistently calls them gypsy's because that's what they were called then. That's just being historically accurate.
