I've a doubt regarding the correct answer. There is nowhere mentioned about the birth year, so it can be true that the one who born in june was actually elder to the one who born in january. Although that might be an answer because others were irrlevant, but still this question persists. btw, I'm just adoring the level of questions and way of making us understanding everything with this much fineness.
The question does say "early in the year" in the conclusion. When we use the word "the", we are talking about a specific year. So the meaning of the conclusion is that, in any given year, those born early on are at an advantage than those born later on in the year. Because of this implicit indication, thanks to sentence construction rules, we do not need to worry about players born in different years. And thanks for the compliment! Good luck with your prep. :)
The question is asking for an alternative explanation, other than parent's support. Whenever we weaken the argument, we do not have to necessarily directly counter what the author has concluded. In fact, in most of the questions, the correct option would not address the conclusion directly but rather would present an alternative scenario that the author has failed to consider in arriving at the conclusion. To weaken is to point out to the author "hey! you missed this". :D You do not have to talk about parent's support to question this conclusion. This is explained at around the 4.30 minute mark in the video.
