I agree that 35s would be nice. The LT4 for people who have insanely deep pockets. Personally the 6.2L NA is fine for me, I'm not going to pretend I can afford a $90k truck.
I was going to say the same thing. Hell, the new 6.6 gas engine in the HD’s would be cool to factory tweak it to have at least 500hp N/A. I say 3 power trims. 1. 6.2 N/A 420HP 2. 6.6 N/A 525HP 3. 6.2 supercharged LT4 650HP
Exactly! That engine makes plenty of power, more than enough for what that truck tows and hauls. Even thoigh its only rated around 8k, thats still plenty for most half ton owners. My tractor and 18ft trailer weigh less than 8k. I like that it has front and rear lockers. It may have less suspension travel than the raptor or rebel but what it has is a good compromise between travel and still being able to tow and haul.
It looks like a step forward in design and capability, with consideration of the potential market, rather than a cost-be-dammed super truck. In what looks more and more like an electric future, I think it was a wise move, albeit less exciting than some of us hoped.

I love my Colorado Zr2, but I am pretty tired of the absolutely terrible interior. I have a feeling that this Silverado will be in the neighborhood of 70k - which is absolutely insane for a pickup.
I got the TRX/manscaped ad too lol. It made me laugh that they used a kid who probably hasn't finished puberty to pull up in his Chrysler and talk about pube trimmers
Great review! Coming from a 19’ RST Z71, I really appreciate what they’ve done with this Silverado. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little jealous. It will be interesting to see the price bracket this falls into.
I'm not really a "Chevy" person but I think they got the styling right on this and I would consider it if I'm in the market for a full size pickup truck (even though I don't really go off road). Great job Chevy!
I love the color, and the grill/hood tweaks. The interior is a lot nicer. 33 tires are a let down. 1/2 ton trucks have had 33's available since 2003. But good to see a front locker. It kind of slots between like an FX4/Pro4x and the Raptor/TRX.
First of all I love you guys. I watch your channel because it does help me better understand the trucks and their capabilities before I buy. Now with all that said it's time for your show to start setting up these trucks with the same off road tires with like speaks so we can see who is best on road, mud, sand, rocks, gas mileage, tow and snow. I believe the only changes you would need to make are tires, close gearing and ride height. I just sold my camaro SS and got the LT TrailBoss with the 6.2. I also currently have a 5.3 Avalanche and I can confidently say that the 6.2 is amazing in the truck. Night and day difference from the 5.3. It's so responsive and lively that you really have to be careful not to spin the tires by giving it just a little too much throttle.
This truck fits right in the middle, still off road capable without losing the towing and payload. I will definitely be looking at these when they come to dealer lots
Same here. HD are supposed to get refreshed in 2023. Perfect timing as that is when I am buying my next HD. If this is the interior, I'll buy GM; would just need to decide between Silverado or Sierra. This interior gives me hope. I love this 1500 interior and so hope the HD is the same or similar. And I'll say I hope the HD have the patterned interior panels like the ZXR rather than wood like all the other trim levels they've shown. I won't buy an interior with wood panels (real or fake).

I’m a Silverado fan. I’ve owned 3 Silverado’s in the last 15 years. I have to say I’m disappointed in the ZR2 Silverado. I still remember when you guys interviewed that gm executive and he said that “Raptors will be extinct”. That is a very big claim that he made. I think they over promised and under delivered. I like the interior, that was in serious need of a refresh but sticking with the same old 6.2 engine with no increase in HP and not even putting 35” tires on it. Nice truck but not a raptor or TRX fighter.
Buddy at work has a newer Silverado. The dash has already cracked. And he’s had nothing but trouble with the stupid active fuel thing where a couple cylinders shut off. He said he’s done with chevys. I’ve heard of too many issues. I’ll be sticking with ford
@@lesterparker1594 I’ve owned 3 and currently have a 2014. They have all been great. No issues at all. Quality of their products is on par with the major competitors. My main issue with the new reveal is that they really didn’t change much. New interior is nice and all but with all the hype and secrecy over the last year about this truck… seems like the same old trail boss with some nicer shocks.
I've always been a Ford guy, but I really do feel for the GM people right now, ''over promise and under deliver'' seems to be the GM way for over a decade now. Ford and Ram have significantly improved their trucks and introduced new and exciting models within the past decade. GM has just gotten uglier and made a few very minor improvements to their engine lineup in the early/mid 2010s and then just left it all to stagnate.
Love the Color, 6.2 is the best good choice, front and rear lockers finally! I want one. Those tires are probably big enough but Sasquatch type package would still be nice. Could be my first blue truck
I have the 2021 Trailboss Custom, currently have 57K on it, love the truck, I also live here in Colorado, just on the western slope. This is my work truck. I travel a bunch with it as I do Communications work (Satellites, Microwave, ect.) for a Oil and gas company. I go from Moab to Parachute, to Meeker, to the Front Range, down into Oklahoma and Texas. I love this truck, I carry a lot of equipment, I have a hard tonnea cover, and the Decks Drawer System loaded. I go off road all the time, places like Baxter Pass, Moab, Dragon Utah, Grand Mesa, I can be driving in 1 1/2 feet of snow one day, and 80 degrees the next. The only thing I have had to do was replace the tires with some 10 plys. After watching this review I can't wait for you guys to do a full on review, But so far I'm thinking this will be my next truck.
5:30 The exhaust outlets are pointed directly to the back of the rear bumper, which is where the exhaust cutouts to the bumper would be. Since this is a pre-production model, I assume GM will correct this.
I've driven Chevy all my driving life, and the hardest thing for me to understand is how they are challenging the Raptor or TRX without adding a supercharger. What happened to the company that was one of the first to dive into electric vehicles, or bring us the 454SS? Look at the GMC Syclone with its 4.3 second 0-60 time!
That looks like it could potentially be a very nice truck. I loved the interior. If priced to compete with a TRD pro, rebel, tremor they should sell a lot. It’s definitely no super truck though. One thought is that neither is the midsize to ZR2 and that thing is a little bad ass.
Agreed, but you’d think the Trail Boss already checked that box. I think most were hoping for a TRX or Raptor competitor, instead we got a Trail Boss +
@@uselessinformationbyuseles8287 true but the trail boss didn't even have a true locking rear diff and this has both front and rear lockers. And yea ppl were hoping for something more of a raptor/trx competitor.

I think its a good truck. I have a 2012 Silverado & just love it. So I'm sure I'd love this one too. They need to make a truck with no computer and a bench front seat. Sometimes all the flashy stuff just gets in the way.
I mean, the high 402 option tremor is coming in at $67,995! At that price, might as well go with the raptor. If they can come in low 60s they will win that market.
This thing is actually pretty impressive, but GM should have stuck 35’s and a supercharger on that 6.2. This definitely cannot compete with the TRX or the Raptor R
Exactly what I was thinking, I would have loved to see the C7 ZR1 engine in this bad boy. I am happy to see what appears to be paddle shifters and the vastly improved interior.
It doesnt even compete with the regular raptor. It has no long/mid travel suspension. All it has relative to that category are the shocks. Its more of a competitor against the f150 tremor.
35s would have gone a long way as to appeal. Would have been nice to have a LT4 as and option on a upper trim and keep the 6.2 as the standard volume engine for this trim.
Love my 2020 6.2 trailboss especially since I got it pre covid for like 14k off sticker. The only thing I wish it has was e-lockers front and rear. Hopefully the zr2 stuff will fit. I could careless about the suspension since I already did king 2.5’s and upper arms. Interior screens are nice but I wouldn’t pay the big $$$ for those to upgrade.
"first ever" would have to be the Tundra since no one has actually given an official look yet. Can't say that for the Rivian. The Truck King channel said they get a hands on with it Friday...
I expect an optional 3.0l duramax in future and they need to eventually off a supercharged 6.2. but the lockers and upgraded suspension will definitely make this a great truck
I’m so glad to finally see a new and actually competitive interior , I think people are let down because they are comparing it to a trx or raptor but that isn’t what this is supposed to be it’s more along the lines of a trd pro I do wish Chevy would make a raptor competitor
Looks like they have found a niche in the market between the Tremor/Rebel/Trail Boss and the Raptor/TRX. It has 90% of the capabilities of a 1500 truck and almost all of the prerequisites for the next level off road focused trucks. If the price comes in right this thing is going to steal a lot of sales from both ends of the market. And the interior is actually pretty rad.
Yeah I agree, it is filling a good spot. It can do truck stuff without sacrificing towing and payload, I bet it does great off-road. I wish they had a lower spec Custom version with all the off-road goodies. I would happily sacrifice the screens for a more simplistic interior and appealing entry price.
@@johnkenley4687 to an extent, this is more capable as a trail truck then any other 1500, with the locked differentials that the others don't have. I view it more, as a 1500 version of a powerwagon.
@Just a guy asking questions i mean, it also has highly unique shocks and enhanced suspension travel (not quite long travel), but enough to where a AEV package would probably look pretty killer on it with some 37 inch tires
Love this truck 6.2 is fine with me I think it's in a class of its own. It's not going to be a high speed runner like the trx or raptor. They own that. But being in the woods with rocky roads and it's slimmer for the tighter trails. Front and rear lockers thank you chevy! Chevy did it. Perfect truck and I betting the price tag will be 20 to 30 thousand less than a raptor or trx. Awesome job tfl Andre you're awesome Amazing job!
Damn, cool but could've been better. Looks great imo, love the hood, Tires could've been 35's instead of 33's, would've made it a lot beefier, at that point a little more aggressive fenders would go a long way, interior looks great other than them taking away the column shifter but that's whatever, not a huge deal. Engine was a bit of a let down, wish they would just supercharge the 6.2 or 5.3 and just break like 650hp or so. Tailgate is nice to see on a chevy Suspension isn't bad, the Colorado's seem to be very capable with those shocks Lockers are nice
They really should offer this with a diesel since it's going to be considered an off-roading overlanding vehicle and long-distance travel is part of the game.
I agree 100% I have the Babymax in my 2021 Silverado and I love it. I drive 3 hours roundtrip every day to work and I average 28-35MPG depending on traffic. So the low-end torque would help tremendously offroad but also in day to day driving as many like me are looking for a daily driver that we can have fun with on the weekends.
They really should have offer it with the ZR1 lt5 so it could be a competitor for the raptor and TRX but of course Chevy again this is the mark doesn't know what the people want they have plenty other trucks that are easy to make like this I would never go Dodge over Chevy until the last few years their interiors are terrible and Dodge and Ford know what the people want this was Shelby's last chance before going electric for a nice truck but they made a glorified trail Boss
I love the fact that you can only get the 6.2L... Chevy is forcing buyers to FEEL THE POWER OF A V8! If there are any engine changes the only change should be a supercharged version IMO. 5.3 or diesel would ruin the whole point of the ZR2.
I think it's more a competitor to F-150 Tremor, Ram Rebel, and possibly the upcoming Toyota Tundra TRD-Pro. Not so much to the TRX and the Raptor due to the fact that it has the regular N/A 6.2 V8. I'm still impressed with Chevrolet on this one and I'm sure it will sell.
Honestly for some people the 6.2 is a positive feature. Kind of depends what you're looking for but all I wanted was a regular truck that can work and also go a but off road (a bit more)
I'm split, I would have loved to see a supercharged 6.2 but unfortunately they stuck with the N/A engine. I am happy to see what appears to be paddle shifters and the multimatic DSSV's!
Isn't a raptor and trx competitor for sure. But Pretty sure the trail boss lined up with the tremor and rebel. Don't know where this one is supposed to compete
I was really hoping to see the lt4 under the hood and a Irs rear suspension. 35” tires would of been nice to see as well. A thumbs up for the diff locks and interior.
i love it don't think it needs a super charger though it looks like it can handle it self well on anything, i do love the interior i know ill have alot of fun messing with it...😍🥰😘
I’ll say this: It’s better than I thought it would be. That interior looks waaaaaay better than the Trail Boss I test drove, before buying my F150. Hopefully the seats aren’t hard as plywood. Front & rear selectable lockers are nice.
That 6.2L engine is EASILY upgradeable to 700+ HP with a supercharger, intake and exhaust. The 10 speed has been shown to handle 1000hp in numerous instances. Camaro ZL1 has been using this same engine and 10 speed since 2017...(Except it has a SC mounted on top and is rated at 650hp from the factory). Anything over about 550hp is gonna also need wider tires. :)
@@bobfuhrwerk2869 why? There is nothing wrong with having a truck capable of 10 second runs, we do it around here all the time. How can you say something is nicer then a Toyota and be concerned about reliability. t The tundra is and will be the most reliable truck. Looks are not everthing
@@x3overland114 Tundra is the most reliable because its most common use is grocery getter, no other reason than that. Ford, Ram are most used in hard/heavy use industries and are subsequently built to handle heavy use day in and day out.
I feel like they only now JUST caught up to the Rebel only thing its missing is the nice locker choice. Definitely a huge step up from the 19 rst silverado interior that i was familiar with.
Feels like a massive missed opportunity. It’s like they went halfway to making it a TRX/Raptor competitor with the shocks and lockers, but then just stopped and didn’t give it any width, power, or tire size to even put it in the same category as those two. It’s kinda in an awkward no man’s land category between a Rebel/Tremor/TRD Pro and the TRX/Raptor. A C7 Z06 engine, wider body/axles, and 35’s would’ve made this an entirely different truck that people would’ve been excited about
On one hand I agree. However, those other specific trucks are ONLY good at off-roading. They suck as a regular day to day truck. This truck I could hook up my travel trailer, load up the truck and head into the bush for days. The other trucks can’t. I agree it would be nice if once, just once, GM would make a balls to the wall beast. But they always seem to produce a truck that is still a useful truck. If I wanted to, I could buy this, slap in a super charger, bigger tires and have a killer 4x4 with everyday usefulness.
You don't need 700hp to off road. This truck fills a niche nicely with the 6.2L engine and selectable lockers, if it can be attained affordably which remains to be seen.
I disagree. The TRX is atrociously priced to the point where they aren’t selling any. Chevy made some good upgrades and likely will be 10s of thousands less than a Raptor or TRX. Plus, the Silverado can still do work because you know, it’s a truck. I can see a lot of guys that do construction or farm work buying this truck because it’s still useful as a truck. Not to mention the atrocious fuel economy of the TRX engine. The 6.2 Chevy is efficient by comparison.
Its a nice truck but I agree, it would have been cool if they went all the way. I think it’s pretty comparable to a TRD Pro, which in the real world is more inline with what most people actually need.
Wish they took it a step forward and made it wider and give it that aggressive look. As a Raptor owner, I love most of the stuff they did and a naturally aspirated V8 6.2 should last a long time, no supercharger or turbo. The front locker is nice as well. Maybe in a few years? Just sucks they are always a step behind.
FINALLY a Chevy Silverado that has both front and rear locking differentials that you can engage on your own and keep them locked until you decide to unlock them. My 2014 and 2017 Chevy 1/2 ton Z71 4x4’s both had that awful automatic locking rear differentials to where the rear would lock if the truck detected and real wheel slippage at speeds under I think either 10 mph or maybe it was 15 mph? That thing was useless and whoever designed it had absolutely no clue of how your supposed to use a locking rear differential. Yeah I think everyone who buys this truck should lift it and add 35s or 37s it would be a beast then and look great
I agree that 35s would be nice.
1. 6.2 N/A 420HP
2. 6.6 N/A 525HP
3. 6.2 supercharged LT4 650HP

Love it just how it is, no supercharger needed. Love that 6.2 also. I even own an f-150 but still appreciate this truck .
The last 6.2 they tested didn't even make it to the hill for their tow test.

Andre thankyou this truck is a dream come true. I'm in my late 70s and i still say you do a great job and this is a truck. Love it..
It looks like a step forward in design and capability, with consideration of the potential market, rather than a cost-be-dammed super truck. In what looks more and more like an electric future, I think it was a wise move, albeit less exciting than some of us hoped.
At first I was thinking "that's it?" But I like your take better. Well said
Where is the supercharge engine and fox suspension?
Very good point. Probably affordable to a lot more people as opposed to the Raptor and TRex.
@@totalenergy80 I get the complaint about the engine. It’s not unique to the ZR2 and there’s nothing special about it, so it’s understandable. But why complain about Multimatics? They’re easily as good as Fox.

Big step forwards as far as the interior goes. I think the exterior looks sweet too. However I wish this would have been a Raptor and TRX competitor. Slap the LT4 in it and give it at least 35s or 37s with some mid travel suspension. Front and Rear locker is great though!

I love the color, and the grill/hood tweaks. The interior is a lot nicer. 33 tires are a let down. 1/2 ton trucks have had 33's available since 2003. But good to see a front locker. It kind of slots between like an FX4/Pro4x and the Raptor/TRX.

Same here. HD are supposed to get refreshed in 2023. Perfect timing as that is when I am buying my next HD. If this is the interior, I'll buy GM; would just need to decide between Silverado or Sierra. This interior gives me hope. I was so afraid they were going to do the 1500 in the horrible 2021 Tahoe/Suburban interior which would have been a no-go. Glad they redesigned.

New interior is nice and all but with all the hype and secrecy over the last year about this truck… seems like the same old trail boss with some nicer shocks.
I agree, there was no “wow” factor here
I've always been a Ford guy, but I really do feel for the GM people right now, ''over promise and under deliver'' seems to be the GM way for over a decade now.

I've driven Chevy all my driving life, and the hardest thing for me to understand is how they are challenging the Raptor or TRX without adding a supercharger.
It's about sales!! How many TRX trucks do you see compared to the Trail Boss?? This is a great truck for the masses, not the super rich!
35s would have gone a long way as to appeal. Would have been nice to have a LT4 as and option on a upper trim and keep the 6.2 as the standard volume engine for this trim.

I’m so glad to finally see a new and actually competitive interior , I think people are let down because they are comparing it to a trx or raptor but that isn’t what this is supposed to be it’s more along the lines of a trd pro I do wish Chevy would make a raptor competitor
I think this truck is in a class of it own. Especially being the only half ton truck with selectable front and rear lockers 😎
I'd say its pretty much on par with the new ford f150 tremor. Its not at all a raptor competitor, but its a step above a Z71.

Looks great imo, love the hood,
Tires could've been 35's instead of 33's, would've made it a lot beefier, at that point a little more aggressive fenders would go a long way, interior looks great other than them taking away the column shifter but that's whatever, not a huge deal.
Engine was a bit of a let down, wish they would just supercharge the 6.2 or 5.3 and just break like 650hp or so.
Tailgate is nice to see on a chevy
Suspension isn't bad, the Colorado's seem to be very capable with those shocks
Lockers are nice
I enjoy these videos even though I am not in the market for any of these specialty trucks. Great looking truck! I hope GM does well with these units.
I think I read somewhere they are going to offer diesel option and the 5.3? Could be wrong tho
THIS IS THE TRUCK I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AWESOME ..with lockers and 6.2l and the interior.........
100%
Will sell for sure.. but disappointed, I was hoping for a more Raptor competitor.

The ford f150 tremor can have front torson differential optional
That 6.2L engine is EASILY upgradeable to 700+ HP with a supercharger, intake and exhaust. The 10 speed has been shown to handle 1000hp in numerous instances. Camaro ZL1 has been using this same engine and 10 speed since 2017...(Except it has a SC mounted on top and is rated at 650hp from the factory). A C7 Z06 engine, wider body/axles, and 35’s would’ve made this an entirely different truck that people would’ve been excited about
yeah they should have gave it the B A S then we would have been looking at about 750 hp
But huge props to GM for FINALLY putting in not just a selectable rear locking differential, but a front one as well!
