Completely biased because it's a chag, but I have to say, she is looking superb. Body is amazing with that thick tail tube. Nice colour too. Would have liked to see the scalation closer. Your goshiki is truly amazing.
Hi Lau, and thank you. Yes the body on the Chag is getting better and better. I didn't really see that when I got her but its very obvious now. I'm wishing my life away but I'd love to be able to skip forward 5 years and see how she turns out.
@@DazzleKoi well from the day you put her in your pond, I could see she was going to be amazing. But what a difference in a few months. She is superb in my eyes, which are getting trained with chags 😁 with your care, she will be truly great. It even seems that she won't have that popped belly, which is great
You saw something I didn't Lau, you can come with me next time I buy another koi 🥂🥂🥂 You're right about the belly to, she has still kept quite slim which all bodes well for the future
Thanks Adam, its definitely my favourite part of the hobby tracking their progress. Its a great learning experience to but it just takes tooooooo long 😁
@@DazzleKoi splendid, I'm happy too, new pond 8k ltrs has been going since July, really pleased with the growth of the koi and how they now hand feed. Water quality has been great, even the Mrs said today how clear the water is through the window! Lots of Pox though, but the couple of quality Koi are free from it. Good luck going into the winter mate.
@@DazzleKoi the 2 koi that haven't are from Ckf, the others were a local cheap supply, that said, one of the smaller Kuhaku seems pretty resilience atm. Oh well, it is what it is I guess.
I think its something of a lottery to be honest. I've never seen any evidence to suggest some varieties, breeders, countries, qualities etc are less susceptible than others. I'm not even sure the conditions they are kept in have to much bearing as you could have a pond full of fish all treated the same and only one get it. Its definitely a bit of an unknown
Some very nice koi and it is interesting to see how each one has developed and changed since April. Hopefully a bit more growth over the winter too. Cheers.
Hi mate, yes this is one of the most interesting parts of the hobby for me. A few years ago I was getting quite keyed in to various breeders and how their koi developed. What to look for at tosai to get the finished koi you wanted later etc. But after a few years out I'm back to square one.
Great video. Your fish are looking amazing. I really enjoy seeing their progress. Despite what I've read and been told about feeding high protein food in the warmer months, Wheatgerm seems to be doing a great job with your fish! Thanks Daz.
Thanks Jeremy, yes I do believe that most of the protein in growth food just ends up as pollutants in your water as koi aren't able to utilise most of it.
Cheers Simon, yeah, I'll try and get some better close-up pictures some time. I actually realised yesterday that I have only had that Chag since the beginning of June, not April as I said in the video. So that development is in 4 months, not 6 months !!
@@DazzleKoi blinking eck so that’s 30 mm growth a month ? That’s some going especially using wheatgerm I mean cracking food and healthy and I use Hikari too but it’s not the highest protein. I been using higher protein foods and have made progress but no where as quick as that !!!
Hi mate, the posts just came from ebay, I think they are about £15 each. The glass is from a local glass merchants. If you take your sizes in they will cut them for you and toughen them if you require.
Nice fishes m8 . I really like your channel as it is very informative. Which video is about how you got rid of the algae on your pond wall? I am kind of running though the same problem: water clarity is fine but walls and bottom of my pond are green
HI mate, I dont think I made a video specifically on that to be honest. I used a few doses of hydrogen peroxide to kill it off and then its just a waiting game really. It can take many months before the black slime it leaves behind is all gone.
@@DazzleKoi I think 'll give it a try too what dosage would you recommand for a 15 000 L pond ? Should I turn the bakki shower and other filters off ? Thanks
Hi Andry, no mate leave everything running. hydrogen peroxide is not harmful and gives a nice oxygen boost to. You can pick it up cheap on ebay. I used 1 litre of 3% hydrogen peroxide in 5000l so if you have the 3% stuff you would need 3 litres in your pond. This link is helpful watergardenadvice.com/hydrogen-peroxide-pond-algae/
Hi mate, yes she does have quite a flat area on top of her head. Will be interesting to see how that develops. She's never going to be a show winner in terms of body and confirmation, but the skin is great 👍👍
Hi mate, yes definitely. I believe it can stay hidden though and it can be triggered by a stressful event and I think that's what happened with her. She got marks on her side while she had the flukes and these marks seemed to develop in to secondary Hi once the flukes went. I could be wrong but I'm sure I've seen it before where some kind of trauma brings it out. It does need to be there in the first place though as you say 🍻🍻
Daz the pattern on the Maruten gin rin Kohaku was nicely balanced in sync All lovely fish bud I got a nice 2 step gin rin kohaku I do like gin rin fish That be the Bristol Shubunkin keeper/breeder in me I love metallic scales Really nice fish thanks for sharing Daz obviously you’ve had huge ponds in the past and as you say you were the first to have a Momotaro Bakki only pond Why did you go for the smaller pond ? Was it ease of maintenance and less work after years in the hobby ? I like your pond I’m gonna use that cladding on my new one looks proper mate 👏👏
Hi Simon, we sold our last house and pond and downsized, to free up some money for a business venture. So the house we are in now was only intended to be for a few years. I wasn't going to build a pond at all under the circumstances but during lockdown I couldn't help myself. I had to keep it small and inexpensive as basically it will all be knocked down when we move. I am really enjoying it though, its so much less hassle and stress and the enjoyment is the same. I probably wont build another pond above 3000 gallons in the future to be honest. Cost and stress out weigh the pleasure for me.
@@DazzleKoi ahh got ya mate . Mines going to be around 3 to 4 thousand gallons initially it won’t be heated however long term when energy prices come down I may put a heat pump on it Ingot in line heaters that I bought and used for my fancies so I could feed them 12? Months a year but they are now too expensive to run Yeah the running costs of 6 and 8 thousand ponds must be quite high Your pond looks well thu just goes to show that even if someone has not got bundles of space you can still keep koi Thanks for reply mate And when you decide to build another pond it will be interesting to watch Cheers Simon
I do think 3000 gallons is an ideal size. Its big enough to house several large koi but not so big that the cost to run it is ridiculous and the stress level goes through the roof. It wont be huge but I've got a lot of cool ideas for he next pond 😁😁
Hi Mark, yes they get hikari wheatgerm all year round. If they come up for food they get it and if they don't eat it straight away I take it out. They know best when its safe to eat and when its not. Filter cleaning, air, pumps, uv etc etc all stays exactly the same all year round. I don't change a thing at any time of the year mate. I believe consistency is vital when we are trying to keep a balance in such a tiny artificial eco system.
Great progress mate, beautiful fish. Why it better to have all female in the pond if you can? Is it because the males beat up the females in the spawning season and damage the female fish?
Hi Kyle, a few reasons really. Females have the better body shape/volume and also they generally grow bigger than females. Also, as you say, the last think you want in a koi pond with expensive koi is spawning as females invariably get damaged and even pushed right out of the pond. It also makes a right mess of your water which takes a bit of recovering from.
that chagoi is STOUT! Very beautiful
