  • At 7pm on the 26th of May 1940, a short signal was transmitted from the dynamo room in Dover Castle. The message simply stated, “Operation Dynamo is to commence”. A few minutes later, a small flotilla of ships slipped out of Dover and began the treacherous but relatively short crossing over the English Channel, arriving at Dunkirk. When the sailors on board the vessels drew close to the shore, they were greeted with an unprecedented sight; thousands of soldiers, wearing their dark inky green uniforms, huddled on the beaches or milled in the water. All of them were gazing towards the horizon; all of them were waiting for hope. Join us this week as we take a look at the amazing story of the evacuation of Dunkirk.

    You left out the King's call for the entire British nation to get down on their knees and pray to Almighty God for the deliverance of their soldiers at Dunkirk. Everybody in Britain did exactly that, calling on God to save their boys. God answered their prayers, but it seems gratitude for literal miracles doesn't last. God's intercession doesn't even get a mention.

      There are pictures of masses of people lining up at churches and praying. BBC news reported on it. The King’s call for a day of prayer and the extraordinary response seems to have been edited out of history

      @@kathysimpson3249 the Marxists revise history, trying to conceal the hand of God, to take credit for His miracles. That's why revisionist history is a thing. The Communists want everyone to put their trust in government, instead of trusting in Jesus Christ. Secular materialism is an "I" thing. One person can do nothing. Divide and conquer. Christianity is a "we" thing. Together, Christians can oppose the forces of evil. Jesus always wins in the long run. :)

      @@kathysimpson3249 OMG! You mean something you deemed important is not often mentioned in the history books. I just don't understand why historians don't talk to you for your expertise before they write books. The extraordinary response is the central part of the story of Dunkirk that seems to have been heavily edited in this video. It doesn't mention that every type of boat was involved in the evacuation, including merchant ships, barges, yachts, lifeboats, pleasure boats and fishing boats. And, why can't Christians get their facts correct. It was 140,000 French that were evacuated along with 192,000 plus British soldiers were evacuated and it seems that Christians forgot to mention that included Dutch and Belgian soldiers. Why didn't this video mention that French troops defended half of the perimeter of Dunkirk.

    A significant proportion of the evacuated troops were French, most of whom were shipped back to France before their contry surrendered. My father was one of the BEF soldiers who was captured as part of the rearguard and didn't get home until 1945.

    Great video as always! This is probably the best summary of the Miracle of Dunkirk that I've seen. With the war in Ukraine going on now, I feel these videos are particularly relevant. I'd like to see an Incredible Journey episode examining the Battle of Britain or perhaps the outbreak of World War II (the invasion of Poland). Great to reflect on in our present times that increasingly bear many similarities. Keep up the good work!

      Imagine, more accurately, that your greatest successes were winning major naval campaigns in the Atlantic, the Arctic, & the Mediterranean, planning and executing almost every assault landing in the west, defeating the Japanese in Burma, and being a major part of a victorious coalition.

      Turkey's part in the war was outstanding.
      Turkey finally declared war on Germany in late February 1945. But at no time were they active combatants for the Allies.

    I thought you might have mentioned that under half the troops rescued from France came through Dunkirk, but I suspect you never bothered checking. You also didn’t bother mentioning that 100,000 of those “rescued” were French - nearly all of whom requested to return back to France where they all surrendered.

      I get the feeling we have already met. Why do you think he "didn't bother mentioning that 100,000 of those "rescued" were French - nearly all of whom requested to return back to France where they all surrendered" ? Could it be because it's a twisted information ?
      About 122,000 French and Belgian soldiers were"rescued" from Dunkirk. The battle of Dunkirk was finished but the campaign of France wasn't. The French government asked the British to send back the French evacuated soldiers to France to continue the fight. On 5 June 1940 the Germans attack the "Weygand Line". Most of the 120,000 French soldiers from Dunkirk brought back to France took part to the battle. Largely outnumbered, they had no other choice than to surrender.

    • @annoyingbstard9407
      @annoyingbstard9407 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@phlm9038 Pretty much what I said. Your main mistake was in thinking those french who returned home via Cherbourg played any part in defending the (imaginary) Weygand line. They didn’t. A) they returned at least five days after it collapsed and B) they returned via Cherbourg and never got within a hundred miles of Laon. All contemporary reports, including the French press, revealed most of them walked out of the port and laid down their arms, although obviously you have the right to rewrite history.

    • @phlm9038
      @phlm9038 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@annoyingbstard9407 You make it sound as if they only returned to France to surrender, that it was what their choice to do so.They returned to France because they had been ordered to. On 9 June 52,669 soldiers were brought back to Brest and 42,056 others were brought back to Cherbourg. Half of them took part to the battle while the others were captured by the Germans in Brittany and in Normandy before they were able to reorganize. Many of those taken prisoners spent the five coming years in camps in Germany, Austria or Poland. With hindsight, had they known what was to come, the best solution would have been to stay in the UK.
