    LSV's ending recaps:
    When he 3-0s: Yeah, this deck was great (points to 5 pieces of power)
    When he 2-1s: Yeah, this deck was medium but happy to pull out the 2-1 even if we lose the draft 😁
    When he 1-2: Yeah, we got combod out twice, happens
    When he 0-3s: Man, Academy underperformed again, eh

    For me, this draft was a demonstration of how strong skyclave is. That's a card I see get passed a bit late at times but I've always found it to be incredible. Just the fact that it removes anything 4cmc or less for good while coming with a body and being able to recur feels so incredible. You said it, but the compliment of pressure and unconditional removal (that sometimes was also card advantage) means you can sometimes overcome more broken decks by just taking out their key cards if they're not actually killing you in one turn.
    White just has the best removal in the game and this isn't always talked about enough IMO. Its removal exiles, hits anything, and sometimes even comes attached to a body. On the surface this was a beatdown deck, but IMO the way it played out, it was almost more like a control deck with some really nice threats.

    If you're not taking Selfless Spirit there, then you need to cut it. You've got multiple ways to bring it back, and it contests Monarch. Personally I don't run it either so I'd just free up the slot.

      This isn't his normal cube. This is the Power Mack Cube. Plus Phlage is better in pretty much every regard, and Ending is just better for his deck since he wasn't NEARLY as aggressive as he would have liked. Selfless Spirit still has it's place, both in the normal cube and the Power Max/Mack Cube. That place just wasn't in this deck when compared to the other 2 cards it was with.

    For a while now, I've been keeping track of whether the fast lands are actually better than the check lands and almost always the check lands would have been better than the fast lands. With fetches, duals, shock-lands, tri-lands, and surveil lands, there are so many lands with basic land types that there is almost never a time when the check lands come into play tapped. I've seen quite a few times when fast lands completely screw someone over too. I would definitely make the swap in any cube not running more than one copy of the fetches and duals.

      Not casting 1drops t1 is very bad

    • @Waghabond
      @Waghabond 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Yeah, how often the land comes into play tapped is a relatively unimportant metric. It's more about how well it allows the deck to smoothly play cards in the early game.
      Unlike fast lands, check lands don't significantly suffer when a deck has many un-typed lands / accelerant artifacts in place of lands.
      Besides - the cube already has the verge lands which can almost be considered strictly better than check lands.

    • @philosopherhobbs
      @philosopherhobbs 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@KirillCapote , thanks for the obvious. I've been playing and watching cubes for almost 20 years now and there was a time when fast lands were better but that's come and gone. Like I said, I've actually been tracking it and the check lands are almost always better now. I've very rarely seen a t1 hand with a check land that didn't have another land that comes into play untapped. In cube, not casting a spell on t1 isn't an auto loss. And while not casting a 1 drop is bad (but mostly just for aggro) not casting a four or five drop can be equally bad in cube. You could even leave the red/white fastland in. I've seen it happen many times as it did in the above game with LSV and other games I've seen with Numot and Caleb D. Players often use a fetch t1 to get a surveil land or tri-land, so I think players overrate how important t1 available mana is. The 3 and 4 mana plays are just as important now.

      @@Waghabond , yes the verge lands are definitely better but we don't have the full cycle yet.

    • @dementievatz
      @dementievatz 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@philosopherhobbs I agree, this sounds like a great observation. I guess another important data point is how often your turn 1 land doesn’t match the types of your check land. My guess is not super often but occasionally.

    M3G1 I think the Rabbit for 3 was also done because they know you have Mana Tithe in your pile. They don't know that it's in your sideboard, but they know it's in your pile. Cut Down is certainly another reason, but it's likely not the only reason, since he tapped his 6th land and untapped it, clearly thinking about not leaving up Cut Down.

    Going 2-1 with a deck like this after a rough draft where i don't think you could have done anything different and made a great choice just ditching blue feels so good.
    Beating the triple power deck.
    It feels better going 2-1 with a deck like this over a 3-0 with lots of power.
    Atleast to me it does.
    Drafts like this one just puts a smile on my face.

    Isn’t tarfire just better than burst lighting here? I think tarfire turning on drc and heat is more important than being able to kick it

    • @grubgobbler3917
      @grubgobbler3917 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Idk, in limited the modality of burst is really really good. The liklihood of flooding out and sitting around doing nothing is way higher than in constructed, even in such a high powered cube, and there will be loads of situations when you'll topdeck burst lightning and have the mana to kick it. That's the sort of thing that can buy you the turn you need to win.

    • @Christoff070
      @Christoff070 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That's a pretty strong statement. You could equally argue that mono red/ gruul/jund is better surely. Easier on the mana especially with mono red/gruul. Boros also tends to run a lot of creature removal which can just be plain bad in certain matchups like combo or u/w control. At least with mono red most of their removal can go straight to the face.
      I'm no expert but I'm a strong disagree with your universal statement here
