      Indeed, if the circumference is 3 miles, then the diameter will measure 1 mile, roughly, but no it is much longer. Geometry muddles long and short. Similarly what is massive and massless. The quantum field plays the tricks, where most particles are massless while W and Z bosons are massive and yet appear and vanish. Same with dark matter and dark energy. In short we have no clue. All we can feel is cosmic consciousness and human consciousness are entangled.

    Yea, this episode is truly closer to truth. This planet and life on it can't just "die" into particles and " life's experiences" into oblivion. The black hole may well be the "the world" of some prior ERA.

    I hope I live long enough to be around when they discover what a black hole truly is and what it's purpose is. Also being around when a unified theory of physics would be pretty great too. I also wish I were smart enough to work in this field.

    All information in our universe could be a holographic projection that we perceive from The Singularity of a black hole. Each black hole, in theory, could have a universe inside of it. Inside of the universe, within each black hole, there could be other black holes with universes inside of them.

      I go with a hographic model from which the space time is its projection. A holographic model comes with no origin thus general relatively is enforced without any Lorantz transformation or any space time curvature for compensation.

    Yes...BH is astonishing indeed!
    It was not that at early period before/prior to bigbang(particulations) the initial singularity of the universe itself was a BH.... warping the universal space-time....as the universal matter was only formed sometime after bigbang...how that BH space-time warping was broken to allow (particulations) expansion?
    Was't it astonish that sometime after the bigbang, following the formation of early matters(after particulations), the universe expansion rate was able to overcome the critical mass to volume ratio of matter to continue expanding against the gravity at all ?

    My occam's razor answer for blackholes is they are wormholes in our spacetime that lead to other spacetime. But if it is other spacetime not part of our spacetime. Then time here has no effect on time there and vice versa for the other side of the new spacetime made by the blackhole. The two spacetimes can effect each other so we can dump stuff in to the blackhole form our end and we sure as hell can get ripped part by the new spacetimes blackhole. Because the blackhole just formed a new spacetime just on other side of the blackhole from our end. The blackholes wormhole always exits at 0 point the dawn of time when entering form our side. But the spacetime starts the second the new spacetime is made. So this means that funny in the math of blackholes having end points and starting points at the same time is 100% right and makes coherent sense this way. Also mean the same matter will exist is a future that also exists in the past. So the the past and the future can happen at the same time but still cohere basic logic and rules of cases and effect. Just an idea anyways

    I have an old and yet not understood concept, unless the the typical gravitational forces seen on planets and starts where the this massive object wrap the space around them making a curved space leading to gravity. How the black hole could have singularly in one direction due to the immense gravity , instead of the dimension impacted around it why the singularity goes only one direction and what drives it.

    see the universe above, but you not have any way to get out, you just do not have any control to material world.

    Just like you can never have enough paint to coat the inside of Gabriels horn, black holes cant be defined on the inside. They can be defined on the outside however as in you can define the amount of paint on the outside surface of Gabriels horn.

    I can tell you what is inside a black hole what its purpose is and how it functions its really very simple, the laws that govern the Newtonian and the Quantum are united within a black hole, eventually the Newtonian will fade off leaving the Quantum at the singularity which will spawn a new universe, I can explain how this happens, it's all very simple, also Einstein's E=MC2 is modified to incorporate information which is all that is left inside a black hole, I can tell you how this works too..

    I still don't get how there could be anything like a singularity when it seems to make no sense for something smaller than the Planck length to exist. Any physicist here could give some insight into this?

      that‘s a very good question but difficult to answer but let me try. It's important to understand the context in which statements like "there must be a singularity in a black hole" are made. This context is provided by the model used to derive the results. In this case, it was general relativity that was used to predict the existence of singularities in spacetime. Hawking and Penrose proved that, under certain reasonable assumptions, there would be curves in spacetime that represented the paths of bodies freely falling under gravity that just "came to an end". For these curves, spacetime behaved like it had a boundary or an "edge". This was the singularity the theory predicted. The results were proved rigorously mathematically, using certain properties of differential equations and topology.
      Now in this framework, spacetime is assumed to be smooth - it's mathematically a manifold - it doesn't have any granularity or minimum length. As soon as you start to include the possibilities of granular spacetime, you've moved outside the framework for which the original Hawking-Penrose theorems apply and you have to come up with new proofs for or against the existence of singularities. In short, the singularity is something that simply arises from the mathematics but it‘s existence is not certain at all and our notions of „small“ or „length“ are difficult to apply in this context.

    The most basic law of nature are second law of thermodynamics and evolution of natural selection the fittest survival. What's singularity? How long does a sigularity last in Vacuum the Absolute (Nothing the Absolute or Antithesis the Empty, suggested by Hegel)? How many sigularities on the surface of (in) Vacuum the Absolute, are there infinite number of it? Does second law of thermodynamics cause a singularity to be disintegrated into ultimate chaos, Lucifer dot the dead (Ldot): every point component of the singularity isolated each other in Vacuum the Absolute?     Whenever I see Kip Thorne on the guest list, I know my mind is about to be blown. Black holes contain absolutely nothing, they’re just twisted space and time. Whew! Susskind too, the difference being that Leonard really enjoys fucking with your head.

    Isn’t the explanation of Kip Thorne contradicting the scientist later in the video?
    One explains that black holes are not made of matter but of warped space and time… the other one explains that they are very dense objects made of matter… which one is closer to the truth?

    7:00 I have to say, Doc, that if I should ever cross the event horizon of a black hole, and have the wherewithal to remember to do so, I fully intend to have a bit of fun...Call it Gallows Humor...on my way to...whenever...lol
    My plan is to send an outgoing message, in every direction, although I'm now "inside" the BH, and even though...
    I know that the only way a person could receive my message would be to have fallen into the same BH as the one into which I fell (ignoring the quantum and relativistic ties, and whatever other wonderful wackiness might apply...work with me here...lol)...
    But that's just fine, Doc. In fact, one might say that my plan expects to use this consistency in the known physical laws to the advantage of both myself and (in the way of Napoleon Hill) of anyone else who falls into the same BH as I.
    My message will read something along the lines of
    "LOOK OUT!! ...JK; JK...Way to fall into a black hole, Dummy!...Lololol"
    This way, at least they'll have one last opportunity to laugh, YKWIM?

    I don't get it. If all matter is detroyed in this process of conversion to a singularity and all that's left is warped space/time then how come black holes have such a huge gravitational pull? Isn't the mass of something giving it such a drag? And what is that something if not matter?

      The reason why light can't escape is because the escape velocity from a black hole is higher than the speed of light.
